removing the "apply" process in one page checkout

Is it possible to remove the "apply" button process in the first column of one page checkout?

Some customers may not notice that they need to press it which means that the "sumbit" button gets greyed out.

Also it just creates and extra button for the customer to press when really it shouldnt be necessary.

Presumably its because its linked to shipping method, but there are one page checkout modules that calculate this automatically without having to press an "apply" button, so it not vital to do this.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: removing the "apply" process in one page checkout

Im thinking of purchasing the other one page checkout mode from mecuryminds, as it looks a bit better design wise and has a side bar to put notes on which i think is handy as it gives you an chance to "talk" to your customer throughout the checkout page.

i intially thought the stock one page checkout on 4.4.2 was better as it fits everything onto one neat page (no scrolling) but the "apply" button just makes no sense to have it there in my opinion.

however if theres no way to bypass it i may have to get some kind of mod.

its crazy how a mod can cost as much as the whole xcart programme though!

I purchased this module and it works great but it runs very , very slow. There is a spinning wheel to indicate it is loading. This is a bit of a problem and has customers getting impatient.

You should open a ticket with the vendor, it loads fast for all of my sites.

I spoke to them about it and they said it was my site and wanted to charge $120 to speed up my site. No idea what they meant by that. My site ran fast before they installed their module and if I disable their module my site runs very fast again. Go figure!!!

Well, you are using a beta release if your signature is correct - that could be part of the issue. You should be using 4.3.2 if you are on the 4.3 branch.

I do not believe my version is "beta", however I have not made any upgrades, only had some patches installed. I will check with X-Cart tech support if I am actually running only a "beta" version.

Thanks,

Eric

I think maybe you are confused about the One Page Checkout module you are running, or business you are contacting. I've never offered or quoted anyone for a site speedup. Additionally, I checked and there is no alteredCart license for dominicancreations.com.

There is another One Page Checkout module on the market that has had many reported issues in the forums, but this shouldn't be confused with the alteredCart one page checkout.

Yes, I stand corrected it is MM One page checkout. Sorry about that. But my problem still exists. :-)

Start by upgrading - 4.3.0 is not suitable for a live site.

I do not need to remove the "apply" process. Not sure what you mean by this?

Yes, That is what I wanted to do. But there are no more upgrades available from X-Cart. Only for the databases, according to them. And it seems like a very complicated process to do. They suggest also going to Version 4.4.

They did, however suggest if I do it myself that I set up a mirror site and upgrade it bit by bit to make sure it all works well and then go live with it.

I cannot do this myself and their tech support rates could bankrupt me ! *LOL*

There is indeed a patch from 4.3.0 to 4.3.2, it is in your 'my licenses' area. Post a request in the Pro Services - Requests area if you don't want to attempt it yourself, this is not an optional thing, you are running a buggy site that may be costing you sales - you can't afford NOT to do it. I don't recommend going to 4.4, 4.3.2 is a very stable release.

This is what I got from their Tech-Support earlier. Referencing the databases I mentioned here.

Eric

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cannot say 4.3.0 is not good for a live store - we can say that later versions of X-Cart are better.
X-Cart 4.3.0 was the first version in 4.3 branch, this it was less stable than, let's say, 4.3.2 (the latest version in 4.3 branch).

The latest version of X-Cart available is 4.4.2. I'll provide you with the instruction on how to upgrade to 4.4.2, and it you still prefer 4.3.2, you will just need to carry on the first step of my instruction.

Unfortunately there are no upgrade packages for X-Cart files between the branches, only database can be upgraded. So in general you'll need to install X-Cart 4.4.2, upgrade the database, and if you have any functionality customizations or design changes on 4.3.2 you will need to re-implement them to 4.4.2 manually after the upgrade.

1) To upgrade your store from 4.3.0 to 4.4.2 you need to upgrade your store to 4.3.2 first with the help of the "Upgrade from 4.3.0 to 4.3.2" patch, that can be downloaded from "My Licenses" section -> "Get upgrade pack" link.

As I said, don't go to 4.4, just go to 4.3.2.

So upgrading from 4.3.0 to 4.3.2 should be pretty straight forward? I have a couple of 3rd party modules that may be affected, not sure about that.

Tech support wants 580 Tech Support points to do the upgrade, that's around $350 US.

I would like to try myself and see how it goes, I am just going to try to arrange a mirror site with my host and see what happens.

Thanks for your input.

That's crazy, are you sure they quoted you on upgrading to 4.3.2 and not 4.4? It is a pretty straightforward upgrade, but if you have heavily modified your templates you may need to manually patch a few files.

Way to much I think. As balinor said 4.3.0->4.3.2 is not a complicated upgrade and all your 3rd party mods will still work. You may need to manually patch some files even if cart is not very customized

Definitely 4.3.2.

I wanted some of the new features in 4.4.X (one page checkout and shipping estimator) and I regret not just buying them from Altered Cart.

I had my sister (who does 80% of her shopping online) place an order in my store. She got hung on the "Apply" button too. She is tech savvy as well and said that it's not truly a "One Page Checkout" due to that apply button. It doesn't even appear on the first screen when the page loads, even on a large monitor. I've had multiple customers call about it as well. It is a major issue and I would think Qualteam would have had a fix for it by now.

4.4.2 is full of bugs that the Qualteam doesn't seem to be working on too promptly :?

Thanks for your good advice, Balinor-- as always.

Ana
