NN4.7 Compatibility Questions

Hello Group

The default version of Xcart works fantastic in NN4.7. It appears there are some color changes but that is also OK.

My question is what has Xcart done to be compatible with NN4.7 Does it switch style sheets? Is there code somewhere that lets it know of the browser being used. I need my site compatible with NN4.7 so I want to make sure I know what needs to be changed.

My original site has two style sheets one for NN4.x and one for IE5.0 and above. However I do not think Xcart is doing that.

If one of you fine persons in this fourm could help me out and send me in the dierection I need to go I would forever be in your debt.

NN 4.7 is dead as a dodo it's built on 3 year old technology.

I havent seen NN 4.7 in my user logs in ages and it makes up something like 0.005% of net users. Really not worth worrying about.

I.E 5.0, Firebird, mozzila, netscrape 6.0, opera and AOL's screwy browsers (which is either IE or netscrape 7 in sheeps clothing depening on if they used you as a guinea pig or not) are the main contenders these days.

Ahh the day of global browser standards compliancy can't be that far away!

Hello

3% of my site traffic is using NN4.x. I cannot shut them off. I also know that x-cart does not shut them off either. What I was wondering is how x-cart goes about working with NN 4.x? The site works great in older browsers.

Hey you're working probably with the 8% of Netscape users I saw on a statistics page months ago. 8O

Hello

Maybe I should make an upgrade and go for NN5.xx

chycor 12-15-2003 02:31 AM

I don't think there was a 5.xx. I remember using Netscape Communicator 4.79 and then upgrading to Netscape 6. You do know they are on 7.1 now. Although most people prefer Mozilla, well I do anyway.

Phil.

3% on Netscape 4.7? You sure?

Yes.

I use thecounter.com and I have 3%. I must have some old users. with old machines. There are quite a few of older people looking at the site. It is mostly U.S. users.

caucus,

The link I posted was just the "global" stats that thecounter.com collects.

Cartlab.net for this month:
MSIE 85525 90.2 %
NETSCAPE 5193 5.4 %

Correct, but dont make the upgrade to Netscape, try Explorer instead.

It is just good coding on X-carts part (in the main). THere are no switchable styles or anything like that. The original style sheet doesn't use many things that are unsupported in NS 4.X.

As for user stats check http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html for global access data to google. Although there is no hard and fast rules, you can see IE 6 is the big one, but of course, just because it is only 3 % that use ns, thats still a lot of people if you are getting 1000+ hits a day.

Hello magnumkp & Group

I agree with them taking the time to do the good coding. Thanks for your reply. I noticed the color changes in a default install between IE6.xx and NN4.7. I thought maybe they did some changes along the way...

Any mods I do also have to conform to working in NN4.7. Like you say 3% can add up to quite a few people.

leon 12-16-2003 03:55 AM

Well you are right there, if its that much in may be worth the effort.
