More buttons, graphics, icons, colors?
Yeah, I'm no artist, nor do I have time, to change a bunch of stuff all at once on my cart.
I was wondering if anyone had a site, or knew of a site where you could get FREE stuff for your cart? An example of what I mean is how there are tons of templates and buttons for the YaBB available on their forums that were created by the forum members. |
As X-cart is commercial software, there is (to my knowledge) nothing free with regards to buttons and templates.
Make your own or hire someone. That's the path 99.9% of us end up going. Good Luck! |
Buttons are the easy part just do a search on like google for them search for like free button images also search for like free clipart and you will find tons of places that have both of them. There are also tools out to create them for you from predefined templates then you just plug in what you the button to say. As for Templates for X-Cart I personally don't think thats such a great idea as the look of the cart should fit into the theme of what you're selling or the color scheme you chose to use. Hope this was some help.

How the heck do you change the colors of the individual components? I'd like to get rid of the baby blue borders and make em a different color.
|
All of the colors are in the css file in the skin1 directory. You make all the changes in there.
|
Is there a list of the various settings?
I see where the colors are now, but can someone point me to a list of the various settings? I seem to remeber the old webmastger mode allowing you to click on the componnent you wanted to change, and it would highlight in the list, so you know exactly what setting changed that item. For example, you'd click on the x-cart logo, and it would highlight the place to change it in the webmaster window. |
Not sure which settings in particular you are referring to.
If you can read html and understand style sheets this is all quite straightforward. |
Well, I just want to know what each setting does.
I was just looking at your site, and I see you modded your tables to get rid of the border, and you added a graphic to the header of each table. How did you do that? |
Basically you are asking how to change the site layout.
There are a number of tpl files that need to be changed. Use the webmaster mode to find out which is which. You should search these forums for Dreamweaver or Front Page and use a graphical editor to make these changes. That would be easiest. It is not settings so much as changing code. I'm not trying to make it sound intimidating. It is not. If you understand basic html and tables, making changes should be a cinch. If you don't have a background in some code level html, then I would suggest looking for tutorials on the net. There are literally hundreds of good tutorials. |
That's the thing, I have Frontpage, and I am pretty good with it. But, how do you edit the .tpl files with it? Can Frontpage even load the files? If so, 1/2 the stuff is gonna be missing. I just don't get it.
|
Try doing some searches.
I am a Dreamweaver user. Try hooking up with some other front page users through the web search. Good Luck. |
I recommend Dreamweaver also, as with Dreamweaver, maybe Frontpage works the same, when it has to do with TPL files you drag and drop them in in Dreamweaver.
|
Frontpage picks it up as a text file.
|
I think a nice addition would be a color picker with the ability to see how it affects a template before you actually save that template. What files are you saying are being picked up as a text file the .tpl files? If thats the case then if you think about it most of the stuff in the file is just gibberish to an editor. If you look through the css file most of the pieces inside of it are fairly well named and by playing around (just remember what you changed) you can mess with things and then reload the page and see what changed, this will work for most things and is also a method I have employed when trying to get a specific color combo to work right.
|
If frontpage picks it up as a text file, have you considered in Dragging and dropping it in Frontpages screen ? You never know, it might work.
On the other hand, I used to use Frontpage, but I strongly recommend Dreamwever, since I started to use it.. I'll say it this way: No Comparison IMHO. |
Try http://www.bradsoft.com/index.asp - I use this to view the php page while changing the style sheet.
Sweet  |
I use TopStyle myself, it is the BEST CSS editor out there.

Yah, creating all those buttons and repetitive graphics are a pain!
I've got a mod that uses the power of flash. What it does is that you can create any custom button, with any custom font, with any custom style you want (drop-shadows, borders, etc), and the only thing you need to do is pass on what text you want the button to say and it'll automatically generate. The file is less than 2K, and when you load it once, it's stored in the cache anyways. Perfect for getting rid of those ugly buttons, as well as generate new buttons on the fly. I've got the same setup for dialog boxes and menus too. PM me if you want more info. |
Is that mod you are mentioning a php file or an exe file ?
|
Can I see an example of it in use, and possibly some screenshots?
Is there a cost involved with it, or is it free? |
it's a flash file. so it runs on 98% (or whatever percentage that flash commands) of all computers. we're building our site and we'll get some demos up for you very soon.
|
You could also tell us where the URL for tests are, that way you have several outsider testers (debuggin purposses).

That'll screw your seo into the ground, have to be careful with flash as the search engines won't follow those buttons if they are flash generated. Major change happening in microsoft world of browsers, the methods for active X components mickysoft use are not thier patent and they've recently lost the rights to it, they have to remove the embedded methods they have been using, the company that beat them in court was awarded over $500 million in damages. In plain english that means applets like Flash won't be autodetected in the next browser updates using the existing code, we'll most probably have to update the html code all round whereever flash is used if we want to be compatible. |
8O MAybe we could come out with something so Micromania can pay milliions in damages.
On the other hand, you are right, I personally dont like to use Flash to much myself, mostly when they start LOADING on main page, I dont know how people still use that for an Intro ? In my case I just close the browser when I see it. |
