Let me share some v4.4 screenshots with you. Please notice that v4.4 is not ready 100% at the moment. Beta-testing is going to start a bit later (visit X-Cart forum periodically and check for announcements ;) )

The X-Cart back end is starting to look sexy! :-P

Kidding, but I do like the way 4.4 is looking.

I notice you've taken on some of the ideas on these Forums too, which shows you lot are listening & looking on these Forums - I commend you. :)

Keep this up. I'm looking forward to 4.4 now. :D

Dang. i keep saying i'm never upgrading again because i have to re customize from scratch but umm.. yeah.. One more makeover won't hurt.. 4.4 seems essential! can't wait :)

@ambal: will this feature be available? I did not see this module in your second image (built-in modules). It will be useful to have it from the very beginning.

My understanding does not include v4.4x, as I thought there was going to be a quantum jump to v5.x from v4.3x. I see the understanding was incorrect.

I concur with others, the preview looks great. Kudos.

However, I remind that equally important, if not more important than "sexy" new and improved backend, is to lessen the pain and efforts required to upgrade by your team also investing into a solid migration script fully tested and released at the same time the new version is released. I will appreciate less stressfull x-cart upgrades.

On security front - I think this was discussed in another thread - does the v4.4x hash (one-way hash, MAC) the user's passwd so that even the administrator cannot see the actual original value at the backend? Thanks. Keep up the good work.

the improvements look great, but correct me if i am wrong, because what i still dont understand is that if new version 5 on a completely new platform which states Summer release and is replacing version 4x, why so much work is going into a version which will be extinct in a few months? Why not just work on the new platform?

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall reading someplace on the forum that 4.4 was only planned to be a stepping stone to get into v5. Because 4.3.x will be drastically different than v5, they decided to use 4.4 as a way to help transition a little better.

That sounds almost impossible to acheive in that amount of time, considering version 5 isnt even ready, how can they make a transitional release?

Yes, it will be added. It wasn't just ready at the moment I was taking screenshots from a development copy.

v4.4 code won't be too far from v4.3 code so upgrade v4.3->v4.4 shouldn't be harder than e.g. v4.2->v4.3

Blowfish and admin cannot see passwords (his own even). Also, X-Cart v4.4 doesn't send passwords in e-mail notifications.

Well, we do work on the new platform and v5.0 is going to be a kind of completely new platform than joins all pros of X-Cart and LiteCommerce to eliminate their cons. v4.4 is an improvement version of existing X-Cart engine. There are features that must be in existing X-Cart + we should remember about ease of transition between versions. X-Cart v4.4 is still having the same X-Cart engine as v4.2 and v4.3 have while v5.0 is going to have a new engine.

we release upgrade kits for latest minor versions in a branch. So you'll need to have 4.3.2 in order to be able to upgrade to 4.4

Xcart ver 4.4 was orginally scheduled for April 2010. Then changed to May 2010 and now updated to June 2010. What's the likelihood that it would be released on time in June 2010? Or in another word, what are the chances that the release date would get changed again?

I can certainly understand that sometimes unexpected things happened and caused the release date to be pushed back. Just curious on the new release date so we can make plan accordingly. Thanks!

Not sure about that. At the moment it is scheduled to be released in June 2010 and most likely it will be released in June.

You are right about unexpected things happened. I hope nobody is going to create some new requirements that everyone must follow in time.

Ambal: because this will be the last branch in v4, make a good release from it. Personally I am not stressing you with the release time. I will continue using 4.3 and 4.4 in the next future. You said the new platform v5 will be different than v4. So you will do it using OOP, like LC platform.

Did you plan some RC's before releasing XC v4.4?

Yes, there will be beta-testing before release and everyone will be able to download a copy to see v4.4

Can't see this in the images but will UPC, ISBN, Mnf#, list price... available for each product, variant, option... It's hard to track something sometimes when you have variants and there is no way to make assign UPC to them even with an extra field

Sorry Alex I have not. I thought after this has been asked for so many times in the forum is kinda given to be included. I will post in "ideas" now. Can you please consider including this anyway - making UPC/ISBN, Mnf#/Vendor#, list price part of the standard product data for product/variant/option

From what Ambal has posted, X-Cart 4.4 is not a X-Cart 5 beta. It is the last of the planned 4.x branch using the existing X-Cart engine.

X-Cart 5 is being entirely re-written using a new engine and will replace both Lite Commerce and the existing X-Cart platform. Most likely it will utilize some of the best features from both existing carts, along with new features that have been requested.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Does make me wonder tho about the dev time being spent on this release when 5 isn't really that far away.

I'd guess for a lot of people xcart 5 will be a make or break situation in a lot of ways. That being said the 4.4 release looks like being a more complete solution for the time being.

How many people here will do a 4.4 upgrade knowing 5 has already been announced?

You do not need to buy a new license in order to get a new X-Cart version for your existing X-Cart stores. X-Cart is not licensed per versions. It is licensed per copies used for production of sales, i.e.: one X-Cart license is applicable only for one X-Cart store. One store means one and the same database (products, users, orders, etc.) and single merchant account to collect payments. If you need several stores, each with its own separate databases and merchant account, it will require the corresponding number of licenses.

Once we roll-out a new X-Cart version you will be able to download it in your HelpDesk account at https://secure.qtmsoft.com as well as download standard upgrade packs that we will provide for free. Please notice that service of applying those upgrade packs or doing upgrade is not provided by us for free. I am not sure how much it can cost as quote estimation is required in each particular case.

I'm curious as to how well existing mods and templates will carry over to 4.4. Will there be severe growing pains with an upgrade from 4.1.12?

On your screenshot for the hot screen changer, it did not show the Neon Lights skin. I hope it will be included in the final 4.4 version.
