Just released today! You can see it available on our site as a demo now:
https://www.bcsengineering.com/store/home.php?mobile=Y

Or you can just go to our store on your phone to auto get the mobile page. Keep in mind if you view it in mobile mode on a regular computer that you have to imagine the screen being quite skinny otherwise the pages look pretty empty.

Let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks,

Carrie

I have installed the 4.3 version - waiting for support to get back to me with a few questions - software looks promising.

Pretty sure we got back to you already. If not and it's been a day or two, let me know the first 3 letters of your ticket number. Keep in mind we are very snowed in here in Ohio. Many employees can't make it to work and their Internet connections at home are slow satellite. So they are doing as much as they can from home. We are a bit backed up just FYI.

Thanks,

Carrie

Yeah I know. We finally have school today. 2 hour delay though. We have a nice layer of ice under our snow. :( Our parking lot at our offices still has ice under it and our driveway at home has about 2 inches of ice.

Re: BCS ENgineering MObile Mod?

I just installed BCSE's Mobile App mod on my 4.4.5 store -- I had problems because I wasn't clear about which directory to upload the Skins to -

The directions said

1. Upload the files into their appropriate directories.

I uploaded the

skin\bcse_mobile --- to -- skin/common_files/bcse_mobile

and it should have been

skin\bcse_mobile --- to -- skin\bcse_mobile

In case anyone else has this problem, I'm posting the information.

Also, I had to clear all templates, temp directories, etc to make the code work.

I did NOT have to 'uncheck' the General Settings-> 'Use new module initialization routine' --

Thanks Carrie and Gary for finding my directory mistake.

You can use OPC in the normal skin and FLC in the mobile. It would do this automatically.

Thanks,

Carrie

Hi Carrie, can this mod differentiate between an iPhone size screen & an iPad. I come across sites that think an iPad should be served up the same as a small screen when in fact the standard page layout and size would be fine, which would be the case for my websites too.

There's a file you can configure (and add to when new phone OS's come out) for it to decide whether to go to mobile or not. So you can configure it how you need to (like not having it go if you are on an iPad). Just email us if you get stuck figuring that out and one of the guys can help out.

Thanks,

Carrie

Dave,

Great! Just email us if you have any questions. Usually we find the investment in the mods pay for themselves pretty quickly. :)

Carrie,

Thanks for all your guys help last night getting my site back up and running.

Would you know on the checkout it asks for you to login, and then under has the checkbox to add address information is that an easy edit to just show the address instead of having them click to add it?

Thanks,
Dave

Ok just wanted to right a review on this, as I am very pleased with the design out of the box.
What it does.

Great interface
Easy navigation
Easy Checkout
Easy Clicking
Pinch to Zoom

Lacks but easily added
Links to static pages (added code in the footer)
No Phone number (added in header, and as a bonus is clickable to call On android)

Others:

Make an option for a customer to go to the full site
This is not really a BCS issue but a general fast lane checkout (i need to look at more) Is when checking out you have to click to bring the address info down (not a big deal)

Conclusion:
This is by far one of the best things to purchase. Looking at google analytic's I was suprised how many people viewed from the phone, and not a large percentage purchased (about 3% of purchases) but with this I think it will be great.

If this in not ok please edit, but you can see the live version on my site

Thanks Carrie.

Does this mod come with any help regarding the types of mobile and their website design considerations?

Dave,

We really appreciate your feedback. Some people don't want the static pages, etc. Maybe we can add it in but have an easy want to turn it on/off or something like that.

Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay. I was out on an anniversary vacation.

I'm not really sure what you're asking here. If you mean what designs are appropriate for mobile, it really depends on your target audience, products, etc. For that, it's probably best to get someone to design specific to your target audience if you really want to get optimized. However, we tried to make our default design work for most industries.

I hope that's helpful!

We currently have this mod on sale! Having a mobile site is becoming increasingly more important. Google will soon start penalizing sites that do not have a mobile version!

I don't think this is true. In the blog they were talking about penalizing for improper redirect not if the site is accessed on mobile device and that site has desktop version only.
Many sites right now when you try go to particular page either directly or from search results on Google will detect mobile device in use and redirect to site's mobile version. If this redirect is not to the page in question the site will be penalized. This is what I got from their blog post. As well as they were saying in many cases responsive design may be a better way of doing instead of mobile site redirect....

Great link, Carrie. Thanks for sharing.

Quote:

There are three things a retailer must do, Klais explains. First, a retailer▓s site must have what is known as a ⌠vary header■ that indicates user agent (the mobile platform initiating a request); this tells Google that the content at the URL varies by user agent, Klais says. Second, for desktop pages and mobile pages that correspond to one another, retailers must insert on the desktop page a meta-tag called an alternate tag that identifies the mobile version of the desktop page and the mobile URL, Klais says. And third, to complete the loop, retailers must insert on the mobile page a meta-tag called a canonical tag that identifies the desktop version of the page and the desktop URL, Klais says.

⌠These are the things mobile marketers have to do if they want their mobile content high up in search results,■ Klais says. ⌠Most retailers do not comply with this yet.■

So a mobile TEMPLATE that serves mobile devices is not doing a redirect, and is within the guidelines, right?

If an Xcart store has a template for desktop/tablet (responsive or not) and a template for cell phones, with correct "vary header" and meta alternate tag, we will be good for google, right?

is this how your template works?

Re: BCS ENgineering MObile Mod?

Hey Jeremy,

Yes I believe ours would be within guidelines. After reading this article though I wanted to check with the staff to be 100% sure. I'm currently out on vacation so I can't check right now. I'll try to do that when I get back but feel free to bug me if it slips my list to-do. Usually I have quite the backlog when I get back.

thanks,

Carrie

With the change to Google rankings around the corner, we wanted to remind everyone that our Mobile Mod - http://www.bcsengineering.com/store/mobile-mod-for-x-cart.html - is a fast way to address this change. The consideration for mobile-friendliness begins on April 21st and this is a relatively cheap and easy fix to help make sure your site is not negatively affected. Also, we can further customize the module to match your site!

If you're interested in customizations, please fill out the form at the following link - http://www.bcsengineering.com/free_quote/ - for a free quote.
