This module is no longer distributed so I publish the latest version here.

The package includes both 4.1.x and 4.2.x compatible versions.

No, only new products is reported.
This functionality will be probably added in further releases.

This is one of those mods that we've always planned on getting done but never got around to writing the specs for a developer.

We didn't tested it on 4.0.x branch but i should say that automatic installation will be failed due to the database incompatibility.

I tried to install this on a site that uses Fancy Cats - for some reason it screws up the Fancy Cats Menu system.

Any ideas how to fix it?

There is only basic support of Fancy Categories in current release. We are working on Fancy Cats compatibility right now.

You can set 'How many days for the products (0 to disable)' parameter in admin to 0 to disable 'New Products' category placement. (This disable 'New Products' category but won't affect the bubble functionality)

Also please refer to 'Configuration' section of Readme.htm file as there are some advanced tips there:

This is a great mod and I would have been happy to pay for it.

Anyone know of an easy way to centre the "Pop up Bubble" on a store that is centred. Depending on screen resolution the bubble could move.

Hi Victor,

I have both Fancy Cats and What's New installed and I had to disable the bubble code to stop the error I was getting, I have the New Products operating with no problem at 45 days.

Thats different to us - we have the bubble working great but had to disable the code that adds the cat to the menu (with fancy cats)

This is not such a big issue as we run a manual "what's new" anyway.

The bubble works fine and gives us no errors. (we are on 4.1.8 though not 4.2)

The page doesn't load in IE and "Operation abored" is displayed?
IE ignores 'defer' attribute for script tag and starts to change page immediately.
But from the other hand there is a functional limitation that is not allowing IE to modify parent container if it is not loaded completely.
This issue is fixed in current release.

Update your skin1/modules/Whats_New/Whats_New.tpl with one from attached package

hi, someone installed this mod for me whilst doing some othr work but there seems to be some problems.
the bubble feature doesnt seem to show properly and if i click on my whats new link nothing happens apart from my featured products on the home page get cleared?

any help would be appreciated as it looks a great little mod.

There is an option in your admin->modules->Whats New
Where you should specify number of days for products to consider new.

F.e. If you set it to 7 - In New Products category will be products added within the week, 30 - month, 365 - year and so on.

Bubble is shown for the products added since last visit only (until customer close bubble or view this products list).
So you should add new product and then look for bubble.

hi, i have it set to 14 days.
the bubble appears now but blinks on and off over the top of my slide show, is there anyway to get it to inssert above it if needed?

also the whats new link doesnt work it just shows a blank featured products page with my slide show above it.

the link that was working though is not ideal though as it only shows since your last visit, any idea why my main link is doing what it is doing?

I suppose it shows the product you have added today.
Since there are no other products added within last two weeks this is the only product in this category.
Try to use 30 instead of 14 or even 300 (to grab all your products sorted by add date in reverse order)

So you should find the code
in your templates and change top and left to adjust bubble location

ive removed the bubble and the link in categories as i have put a bolder link on the speed bar but obviously need this to eb working.

is there anyway even if i have to pay you you could resolve this for me.

I don't know when your products were added so try set it to 360 (to grab all your products added last year sorted by add date in reverse order)

i will try that but if you click on my link the page is not doing what it should do, ive clicked on the same link in another x-cart store and its totally different.
mine is not creating the category correctly, yesterday i added over 20 products so these should be showing?

Hey Victor,

I have tried getting this module installed and am having no luck getting the bubble to show up. I tried adding the code in skin1/customer/home_main.tpl, home.tpl and customer/main/welcome.tpl. I cleared the store cache, browser cache, refreshed the page and still nothing. even set days to 360 and I have products added today. I have done some mods and have had some experience modifying files and never had any issues getting them too work, until now..... :(

any suggestions ??

I'm tired a bit explaining this to everyone ;)

Bubble and 'New products' category are not the same.
Bubble shows new products since last visit only.
It doesn't matter how many days set in your admin since this option is used for 'New products' category.

To see the bubble you need to
- open your store on other computer (in the other browser) to set the 'last visit' cookie there
- close this browser
- add new product in you current browser
- open your store on other computer one more time

Thus it works like this:
- when the customer opens your store and already has the cookie of his last visit and some products were added since then he will see the bubble with the number of these products and the link to see them.
- when he closes this bubble or follows the link he will get new 'last visit' cookie.

There is no impossible things. ;) But this feature is time-consuming since it requires significant changes.

You can use this link home.php?cat=0&WhatsNew=Y to show New products dialog.

1) Is there a way to not show "Bestsellers" on the whats new page if you have it enabled?
2) Also yes I can make the 'Whats New' category look different, but what if I want 2 more other categories to be up there with the 'Whats New' that look the same as it?
3) Can you make the 'Whas New' category specific for products?
4) Can you make it show products in a 3 column matrix if your main settings are set to just list products?
5) Is there anyway to give this category a description?

Hi,

I installed whats new, but had to remove the bubble as it was causing server errors... I think that may be fixed in a more current release as mine is older.

But I'm also occasionally getting SQL errors:

please attach your modules/Whats_New/config.php here, there is something wrong there as quotes should not be escaped in this query. Moreover, it should have no quotes. This is probably related with magic quotes configuration.

I'm happy with magic quotes feature removal in PHP6. :)

Thank you for the wonderful mod, the what's new category works great, however, the notification is not visible. I have followed the instructions to log on after creating a new product with another account on another computer, but it does not show the notification.

I followed the instructions included in the download to a 't'. Any ideas/suggestions?

EDIT: Works now, however notification bubble isn't positioning properly. I'll try to work on it.
