Editing Templates
What program do I use to edit the .tpl files?
Thanks |
Re: Editing Templates
You can use any text editor or your FTP client.

Re: Editing Templates
Any text editor will get you there... but a text editor that is "code aware" is easier to work with.
I use TextWrangler for the mac (or Coda.) The BEST way to do this is to use an FTP client w/ integrated or linked text editor. Good luck! Jeremy |
Re: Editing Templates
Ok great thanks for the tip. One other thing, any good sites on how to edit out or add to these templates? I'm new to this.
Thanks |
Re: Editing Templates
This applies to the 4.1 branch, but the concept is similar:

Re: Editing Templates
Ok I found the Edit Templates in the Admin area. I went in and edit the .tpl file I was interested in doing. When I committed out what I wanted, I received the "Error - File operation is failed." I went and read the link you sent and did what they recommended to no avail.
Any ideas? |
Re: Editing Templates
Panther - don't try to use the template editor in the admin. There are many reports that it simply doesn't work in version 4.2
PLEASE, for your own sanity, use an FTP client w/ an integrated or linked text editor. |
Re: Editing Templates
Do you have any recommendations for an FTP client w/integrated or linked text editor?

Re: Editing Templates
CuteFTP Pro is a good one

Re: Editing Templates
On the mac side: Transmit, w/ textwrangler OR for 1-stop shopping (I love this one): http://www.panic.com/coda/

Re: Editing Templates
Ok great thanks for the suggestions.
Can someone please walk me thru how to comment out something on the main page to get me started? I would like to comment out the "Powdered By......" and the number of users online, etc. Which file do I use and how would I do that? Thanks in advance for any assistance. |
Re: Editing Templates
1. to learn which template is used for any element, use WEBMASTER MODE. Webmaster mode is your best friend... using webmaster mode, you will be able to determine the template that is used for any element (and see the insanity of the nested templates -- but there is some order to it).
2. To comment out stuff in templates, refer to the template editing guide link. It explains how to comment things out. |
Re: Editing Templates
The template editing guide you are referring to, is that in the admin area of X-cart or in the manual?
