Howto export PSD for new skin
 

Hey,

A couple of days ago I bought the X-Cart v4.2 GOLD with a "Graphic prototype"-skin.
I downloaded the template-file and opened the .PSD file in Photoshop CS4.
I thought the file was already "sliced" and ready to export.
The File has only "Guides".

How do I export this skin in Photoshop so that the pictures can replace the pictures of skin1?
I can still keep the template of skin1 but only have to replace the images to install this bought "Graphic Prototype" file?

did it come with a skin1 folder?

you can't export a PSD for xcart. it has to be done manually. no install instructions or anything?

who did you buy this from? I contact them and get install instructions.

Those are jsut PSD files, you'd need to slice them up and add them to your templates manually.

you bought a prototype which is not a skin. it is representation of what your skin could look like. Im guessing there were some gif files included with your prototype?

The .ZIP file contains 4 files:
- 1_Fashion_home_page.psd
- 1_Fashion_home_page_780.psd
- 2_Fashion_category.psd
- readme

The readme file only contains this sentence:
"The PSD files are saved in CS2 Photoshop version"

I bought the skin here:

How do I know what to name the exported slices/images?

Thought this was just a matter of exporting in Photoshop and replace the original "skin1" images.

well spend several sleepless night rifling through template files.

Its a pain if you don;t know what you are doing.

Id suggest getting your money back and paying the extra money for a real skin.

It seems like this will be an impossible job!
I contacted the sales dept. how much assistance with this will cost....

it certainly not impossible, but you will need time and patience. but you will have to learn the .tpl file structure, CSS, and html.

make sure you validate often and check all browsers. once you get it right you will have a greater understanding of x-cart which will be invaluable, if you are running the store.

hope this help, just dive right in and ask as many questions as you like :) I know i did when I first started.

there are certain things that you can do...

option 1

1) skin/convert PSD into HTML
2) implement that HTML to your skin1 folder by modifying template files however, its a steep learning curve

option 2
xcart will integrate this design according to your requirements at a cost
(Integrate it with my X-Cart store + $561.00)

option 3
hire a some other web designer or developer to integrate the design for you.

Thank you for all your support!
I have some knowledge of html,css,etc. but I thought the extra skin was easy to install.
Guess this implementation will cost me a lot of my time, but I think I'll get there...

If you wait a bit, it looks like they will be converting those to skins - which ARE very easy to install. May want to ask via your help desk when they will be available as skins.

We have no plans on selling graphic prototypes as skins.
