Disable switching product images when variants defined?
I have a medium problem: Variants Images. I defined an option named color (Red, Blue, Green), and added an image for every color.
When loading in Frontend the product page, for a second it shows the product thumbnail, and then it switches to the default color image (the first one in the pop-up form). This make me crazy. It is a way to get rid off this? I would like also to disable switching the color images in product page, when choosing them from the pop-up form. I want to keep untouch the product thumbnail. Thanks! |
Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
Hi am2003,
I've got a similar problem with variant images. On the product page for a second the correct image shows up and then it becomes "blurry". A right-hand click on the image shows that it "enlarges" the 100x100 thumbnail to 150x150 pix. This in itself I find strange, because on the product page, according to the manual, the product image and not the thumbnail should be shown. Then, when you select a variant: the image becomes "clear" with the 150x150 image showing up. When you go back to the category-level and then go back to the product page the image renders correctly. However, when you closed your browser session it starts all over again. Very strange. Beste Regard, Gijs |

Are you using a product image, or just the thumbnail?

Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
Hi JWait,
I don't want to take over am2003 post and I don't know if your question was for one or both of us. But if my answer helps ... In product Details I always use 2 images: Product Thumbnail with a size of 100x100 Product Image with a size of 150x150 In Product Variants I allways use a 150x150 image (=same as Product Image) Best Regards, Gijs |
Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
By default, X-cart will display the thumbnail when you don't have a product image. If you have a product image it will display that instead of the thumbnail. If you have variant images defined then it will display those according to the choice made in the options selection box. If you have detail images, those are either opened in a popup window, or displayed below the product details, depending on the choice made in admin/general options/appearance options about having the images in a popup.
am2003 - "I defined an option named color (Red, Blue, Green), and added an image for every color." Did you define a image for each variant? If you delete them the product image (if you have one), or the product thumbnail will be the only thing displayed. Gijs - Have you made any modifications to your installation of x-cart? What you describe is not normal behavior. The product thumbnail should not be loading if you have a product image defined. I am thinking you may have a 3rd party image mod of some sort that is causing this, correct? |

Hi Jwait,

Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
It appears you do not have a default image defined so x-cart is using the thumbnail and stretching it to the size you defined for the product image to be. I see where you do have a image in the images/D folder but it is not being used.
When you go to product modify are both the thumbnail and the product image showing in admin? If not, try adding a product image (it can be one of the product variant images as they are the same size) and see if that fixes the problem. |

Hi Jwait,
Thanks for taking a look. Quote:
This I had noticed as well, but I don't understand the reason why. Quote:

@JWait I set up an image for every color. I have also a product default image. How can I change the template, if variants defined to not show the product default image? It is making me crazy to see for a second the default product image and then how it is changed to the first variants image. Can we do something? |
Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
When you set up the option. For "Option group type:" did you choose "Price modifier", "Product variant", or "Custom text field" ?
If you choose "Product variant" it will give each "option" a separate SKU and allow you to change prices. It will also give you the option to add a variant image for each product variant. What this does is when the customer changes the selection box to a different color the main image will change to the variant image associated with that product variant. |
Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
JWait: I set up my product variant based on "Product variant" choosed. With SKU, Price and Image.
My problem is when I load the product page, for a second it shows the product thumbnail (the product default image) and then switches to the first variant. I should change the template and if variants with images defined not show product default image. Normally to show the first defined variant image. |

"for a second it shows the product thumbnail (the product default image)"
Do you have a product image defined? See the attached image in post #10 to see what I mean. |
Re: Disable switching product images when variants defined?
Ok, I understood. I will delete the default image when working with variants.
Cheers. |
