Editing in Dreamweaver?
Am new to X-Cart and normally use Dreamweaver for designing web layouts, is there a way to design the main layout using it in design mode so I can see what I am used to? I have tried using the Webmaster Mode in the admin panel but only see code.
Thank you |
Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Unfortunately no, the templates are Smarty based, and there are too many {if} conditions to be able to edit it in DW. Good place to start is here:

Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Thankyou Padraic.
Can anyone point me to some instructions on creating a skin? we have an existing website that I need to insert the x-cart shopping cart into the design. Have been searching the boards with not much luck |
Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Did you read the thread I linked?

Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
I did thanks Padraic, but I think what I need is actually to edit the skin to look like our existing site maybe not editing the actual templates?

Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
HI Icameron, my understanding is that unless you really understand Smarty you are going to have a really tough time matching skin to site. You will need to know how to retain the functionality of x-cart whilst changing just the look and layout of the store features. Best read how to use Smarty first I would think or hire a smarty expert. I have played around re-arranging smarty tpl files in dreamweaver and have had mixed results.

Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Thank you for your help. I have sent emails to a few developers for a quote, hopefully they will get back to me ASAP as the site needs to go live this week. At least I've figure out how to change the header!

Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Yes not a bad move with your timescales. I have had some success with Dreamweaver so don't discount it for very basic stuff :-)

Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Yep, you need to edit the templates to edit the skin :)

Check this thread http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=2371 for using Dreamweaver. It is kind of old, but it may help. |
Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
Dreamweaver is a very powerful tool - but should ONLY be used with xcart to HELP with design elements.
1. DO NOT use it as your ftp client 2. DO NOT use it as your css editor The BEST way to use Dw is to make some code, copy it out and then use other tools. Dw can get you from zero to something very quickly, but then the code must be integrated into the templates, and Dw is not the tool for this. I use Coda (on the mac). |
Re: Editing in Dreamweaver?
i saw a plugin for DW to coding in smarty but it didnt work for me and crashed my DW permanently. :-(
