New Gift Registry Module - Suggestions welcome
 

With so many clients requesting a Gift Registry module that actually works, we've decided to have one created from scratch. This will also be available for sale once it is complete, so to ensure that we create something that works for everyone, please contribute your suggestions below. We are going to model it after the target.com registry which I think does a great job of making things clear to the user and registry owner. Features would include:

- Ability to add to the registry directly instead of using the wishlist
- Tracking of quantities purchased (i.e. Needed/Purchased)
- Easier registry lookup
- Better e-mail communication for both the registry owner and the individual buyer
- Gift wrap option
- 'Ship to registry owner' option (with address added when registry is set up)
- Categorization of items on the registry
- Different types of registries (gift, wedding, baby, etc)

Any additional requests/thoughts are welcome.

Please make sure it integrates with Altered Cart's Checkout_One for ship-to fields being different than bill-to fields.

Can it be designed so that the visitor (customer) does not have to login to see the registry? Simply knowing the recipient's info should allow them to see it.

A direct link (URL) from outside should take the user directly to the recipient's registry page (no login required). This will allow the giftee to send the registry to others.

This is going to be a very nice addition to many stores. Looking forward to it.

One more thing -- can't stress the "anonymous" nature of the transaction ---- if I am shopping for a registry gift for a friend (do it all the time) I HATE IT when I have to register on another site to buy something for the friend... many sites allow anon checkout, and a perfect implementation of gift registry will allow the giver to shop anonymously for the giftee. Thanks for letting me clarify this. Hopefully, this isn't a technical challenge.

Got it...don't see why someone should have to log in to purchase or view registries, should be just like shopping 'anonymously'. Don't see an issue there :)

Surely there are others who are interested in this module? We are starting development pretty quickly on this and it will be MUCH easier to include requests from the beginning....

Some things that should be included in the gift registry is the ability to create clients registries for them in the admin panel. That way if they come to your actual store you can create the online registry for them. Another great mod would be to have a way to upload registry via a file for easy creation of registries for people who registered in the store. The ability for a printable registry that shows pictures of the items, quantities, prices etc. would also be great as we use these printouts at each brides table for in-store clients to view registries. Notification that a purchase is for a registry would help in managing the in-store registry. The option for in-store pickup, enclosure card, and gift wrapping would also be great. These are just a few things i can think of off the top of my head.

We are also very interested in this registry for our clients. Has there been any progress? It needs to be very easy for the general public to by from the registry when reviewing items to purchase and very easy for the admin to manage.

Here is a list of things that would help make the perfect registry. Many of these requests come directly from our clients.

1. During Event creation there should be name fields for both the Registrant and Co-Registrant
2. A welcome email should be sent to the Registrant after the Event has been created.
3. Ability to add items to Registry while browsing the store
4. Search should include either party name and event date
5. When viewing the event registrants should see how many they have requested and how many have been bought.
6. Customers should have the option to have the gift sent to them or to the event recipient
7. Registrants should have the ability to view Who Bought What from their registry
8. Customers need the option to be kept anonymous from the Who Bought What list (default as show)
9. After the event Registrants should receive a ⌠Completion■ discount on the items remaining in their registry.
10. Admin should have the ability to edit numbers on products in registry
11. Admin should be able to see list of Who Bought What from registry with order numbers.

Thanks so much for working on this! I have worked with 3 different programmers to come up with a registry (I always use Target's as the example), and have not had any luck. Please let me know when this is completed- the suggestions shown are perfect, and Target's is the most complete registry I have seen.

A really nice additional option is similar to: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/Gift-Registry/.
They offer a 10% discount for the customer to purchase the remaining items in their registry.

We also need this, ASAP!

Our needs might be slightly different, however, because we are a brick & mortar store. Most of our clients walk in to create their gift registry. We need to be able to control the registry from the back-end somehow, to add the initial gift registry, mark as bought items that were purchased in-store, and maybe even add items to the list that aren't available for purchase online.

All of the other suggestions have been great! Crossing my fingers that this is close to completion!

It's two weeks out from being launched, but if you'd like to view some of the customer front end development that's already complete just look at the screen shots.

Some features include:
1) create registry profile & unlimited number of registries
2) easily add items to your registry & manage/update registry items
3) send out email announcements & view announcement history
4) view what items have been purchased from your registry
5) sort registry items by manufacturer, category or price
6) easily update any item in registry along with quantities

Kurt, most if not all of your items you listed as WISH LIST items have already been completed.

they have a coupon that cut 200$, so if you want the mod so much, you can buy it with 299$ instead of 499$.. The coupon as i saw, if i remember correct is "kosmosGR"

:oops: Well my appoligize for speaking before the rest of our crew looked at all the changes more closely. It looks like it covers everything that our customers want. And they are really interested in hopes that it will keep some people from calling.

I tried out the admin section but the log in is not working :( .

What about transfering current registries and info to this add on?

We recently installed this mod and found that it's pretty good. The install was a bit buggy, they had to go in a fix a few things but since then it has run smoothly. Support is good.

The registry addon itself is fairly easy to use both for the customer and via the back-end. There are a lot of nice touches like the ability to sort items by category, price or brand when viewing the registry. The only thing I'm not sure is truly useful is the announcements/email feature, but that will depend on your clientele. We haven't had enough customers use the registry yet to be able to tell.

We did not end up developing this, and even if we did, it would have been at least $300. That is a pretty good deal considering how much work goes into a gift registry mod, I'd be happy it is only $300 :)

GIFT Invoice

Just had a request to add this feature to our store. In particular though, it was pointed out that a Gift Invoice is also needed; something that shows the recipient what they are getting, who it is from, maybe a gift message, but most importantly, NO Prices! Everything a giftee needs for exchanging the gift or returning it, but not the price.
