Best Place To Buy A Skin For X-Cart
Can someone recommend a place where I can purchase a good quality skin from that provides good after sales support. I don't need custom work at this point.

I e-mailed 7dana.com on Friday and to date have not had a reply. They seemed to offer a good selection of templates. They even state a 24 hour reply guarantee. They can say goodbye to my business. It appears that a few of the other sites that are around sell templates from 7dana.com. I wonder if they are aware of the support they are giving?

There aren't too many premade template solutions available, which is why most solutions are only from 7dana. Additionally, when you typically purchase from a vendor, you actually deal with that vendor for 1st-level support, and then it goes to 7dana if needed, from there.
BTW, many firms are away from the keyboard over the weekend, and then when they get back to work on Monday, they have a backlog of requests from customers. What type of support would you require for a pre-built template? |

He is slow in answering sometimes (and at other times is back in literally 5 minutes). To be honest for off the shelf templates he has the best selection (and they work nicely). He also makes sure the templates works when X-Cart is upgraded (so you can keep using the same skin when upgrade X-Cart). I use one of his skins on one of my sites and after upgrading I had an issue installing the skin... he was nice enough to help me fix the installation and did not ask for anything extra (from memory I waited a couple of hours for him to do that). He also is the only person who offers skins that I know of, who will help you work out why another 3rd party mod is not working with his skin (and help you to get it to work). It is a national holiday in his part of the world today as well - this might explain why... So I wouldn't write the 7dana option off this fast... just some comments (even though I understand that first appearances for you have been bad). I'd like to 2nd Asiaplay's comment, William Hayes and Padraic Ryan (Balinor) are 2 of the best x-cart designers available, but only William has mentioned selling skins, so that might be another good solution for you.

Thanks Jon :) To clarify though, we don't sell pre-made skins, all of our designs are completely custom.

Oh come on, I can't possibly list everyone all the time...that was just a place to start. I always list Jon for critical mods such as CDSEO, EZ Upsell, etc...just wasn't the first one to come to mind as far as skins, and his are sold through BCS anyway.

X-Cart is a great e-commerce system, but I'd recommend utilizing the forums first instead of tech support. Not only is it free, but you have thousands of users who can help you instead of a few engineers who are WAY overloaded.

That's the catch with CSS skins...many third party mods require extra work to get them to work, and X-Cart upgrades will be a much bigger headache.

Cart-Lab's css skin should not be used. I'd be surprised if Phil's CSS layout is compatible with his own mods, let alone other third-party mods.

Because I've had several clients asking me to fix issues where two of his own mods simply aren't compatible, to which his response was "sorry no refunds."

It took long enough to put a template together that was entirely table-less and W3C compliant, let alone worry about third party mods. Making the template was a good exercise in CSS for me and I thoroughly recommend everyone else have a go themselves. I'm hoping to launch more CSS templates as soon as the next version is released.

I just got the table-less skin from Phil (X-Cart Mods), and it's damn nice. I highly recommend it.
Additionally, I've had to work with Phil in the past on the behalf of a client that had already purchased some modules from X-Cart Mods, and Phil was actually very responsive and helpful. Cheers |

I think it's realestic that if you are going to sell a customer 2 mods, they should be compatible or the customer should be notified of incompatibility prior to purchase, or you should make them compatible for the customer after purchase. I'm not trying to "flame" you, I'm just trying to make people aware that they should do the dilligence before purchase with some pre-sale questions.
