Gift certificate email templates?
 

Looking at this site (not ours, someone else's):
http://moderntails.com/giftcert.php

I'd like to know if templates for emailed gift certificates--not just the printable--are a feature of newer versions of X-Cart, or an add-on we can get somewhere. Can someone offer advice on how this was set up?

That's a custom modification for sure. Haven't seen an add-on like this, so you'd need to have it custom coded.

I've just written a mod that does exactly this. I'll write up the procedure and post it later today - there's a couple of tweaks I'm working on to polish it up a bit.

Nate hello... I too am wondering if you completed the mod. i am just now begining to look into the Gift Certificate system in my new store.

Any help would be appreciated as that top mod look awesome....

That is a very good mode. I would buy that mod if the price was right?

What do you think the cost would be to make that one or something very much like it?

Is there nothing already out there like it?

Time to bring this one to life again. People need emailable GC templates for birthdays, holidays, etc, etc.

Me2. Any experiences with selling Gift Certificates? I just got 1st order for a Gift Certificate and I'm not sure if it's real or a fraud. How can I be sure? How do you handle a gift certificate? Do you charge a card and then it's emailed to a recipient with only email address and a first name provided as in this case it is only a first name of the recipient provided. How do you know a stolen credit card is not used? Even if the IP address is nearby.

We just use the same common sense we use for any other order. We don't have "live" credit card processing, so we treat the GC just like any other product being purchased. Honestly, we don't get many GC purchases online, usually the customer calls us and we process it that way.
We also use this as "store credit" for a returned item.

I just finished a mod which does this... displays thumbnails of the email layout which a user chooses from and it uses their selection as the email template.

I don't have time right now to document it and post it but if there's a lot of interest let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I am SUPER interested in this. Can't believe how disappointing the default email templates are. I'm practically embarrassed to send them and if I was the recipient, I'm not convinced I'd even think it was legit. Yuck. Makes me look bad.

Me, too! I'm extremely interested in a choice of email templates. I can't believe this is not a default feature.

Anybody else who has done such a modification and willing to share it? Suggestions where to begin, are also very welcomed!

This is rediculous. I cannot belive how poor the cift cert module is in xcart. I found this though if your thinking of modifiying like I am

All done.

I have no idea how to start from scratch, so I took the template that we use for our email newsletters that we put out with an email marketing software like mailchimp, and put in the code from mail/html/giftcert.tpl in the relevant bits and hay presto....
