Trustlogo not floating
I have altered the skin1/customer/home.tpl and put in the correct code at the correct places (between the corresponding tags) as being directed through the trustlogo.com site:
Quote:
The trustlogo is showing and functioning now on all pages, but it is centered at the bottom and not floating. My aim is to get it in the right bottom corner and floating above the content below it. I guess the code should be put somewhere else in the home.tpl or should I add the code in another .tpl file to get the result I want? p.s. I've been able to see other sites where it works with my browser so I figure that the browser isn't the problem. Thanks in advance! :) |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
You need to surround the JavaScript with {literal} tags, i.e.:
{literal} javascript code here {/literal} |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Sorry for not getting it, do you mean like this?
{literal}<script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.trustlogo.com/trustlogo/javascript/trustlogo.js" type="text/javascript"> </script>{/literal} And <!-- TrustLogo Html Builder Code: Shows the logo at URL http://www.mydomain.com/shop/trustlogo/cornertrust.gif Logo type is ("SC") Floating on the //--> {literal}<script type="text/javascript">TrustLogo("http://www.mydomain.com/shop/trustlogo/cornertrust.gif", "SC", "bottomright");</script>{/literal} |

Re: Trustlogo not floating
Somehow that's not working:
Code:
{* $Id: home.tpl,v 1.88.2.3 2006/07/19 10:19:35 max Exp $ *} Line 9 and one of the last lines have the javascript code, would you be so kind to take a quick look? |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Sorry, not familar enough with that particular company to know the answer :(

Re: Trustlogo not floating
Thanks anyway :)

Re: Trustlogo not floating
Ok, I'm a bit further but haven't managed yet.
Finally I found a post dealing with this, but it is for 4.0.x, is there anybody who knows how to alter it for 4.1.x or is willing to try? Quote:

Implementing Comodo's 'Corner of Trust' in X-Cart 4.1.x
I finally found out how to go about this matter :)
TIP: I came across a big part of this modification somewhere in the forums and copied and pasted the code I found there; somehow this copying and pasting didn't make it to work, finally I went through the steps described below (go to the site, enter url etc. etc.) and succeeded. >> The not properly functioning of copying and pasting of code could be forum related so I would advise you not to do this. << Technical specs X-Cart version: 4.1.3 Other versions could work with this tutorial, but you'll have to try and see for yourself! To make thing really easy (you can skip step 1 and 2 with this); here's the logo so you don't need to download it: http://www.trustlogo.com/images/cornertrust.gif Step-by-step setup
My 2 cents No garuantees or support; I'm sort of a newby. |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
works a treat, thank you
|
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Yeah, works great -- but then you have an U-G-L-Y red triangle in the corner of your store -- that is meaningless to most people, and makes the site owner look like a geek.
I have been asking Comodo for an alternate logo. Ok, I'll concede that for some stores, and some products, this seal may mean something, but I have yet to find the "Corner of Trust" in use in a fortune 500 type site... and if that's what we aspire to be, why not emulate them? Or we can load up on meaningless logos and look like the hacks we are trying to copy. </rant> |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
i too think the logo is unpleasant, so i just decided to leave it off
it doesnt go with the colors of my site and stands out like a sore thumb, i figured the yellow bar and lock on the address bar is enough for customers to get the picture |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Thanks for the heads up! :)
|
Re: Trustlogo not floating
I like the logo and I cant see anything else that stands out to say secure any better then this red corner logo thats stuck there on every page. And if no-one else has then who prey tell are we copying?
My customers are interested in safety and this provides them some peice of mind, so for me it is the red logo for sure, if the fortune 500's arent using them then even better for me as I dont want to imitate a fortune 500 I want to be my own inovator! Thanks for the great tutorial - helped me a treat! |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
I absolutely am convinced that the day we added the logo to our site (as well as the HackerSafe logo) our credibility as well as our bottom line went up - We added both one year ago - at that time I was doing about $2K US per month - we are now doing over 10 times that amount and still growing.... I will admit that I have done a few other things besides that - but when you look at the cost compared to the peace it might provide some wary customer.... it is worth every penny.

Re: Trustlogo not floating
I am wondering if I have to purchase a ssl cert from comodo in order to have a comodo trustlogo floating on my site? I have been using thawte cert for some time, Do I have to purchase another ssl from comodo and installed again?

Re: Trustlogo not floating
You can put any old logo on your site... but if you're not licenced to use it, you are stealing.
The POINT of a secure cert is to VERIFY the identity of the site and its owner. If you don't own a Comodo cert, then using the logo is meaningless. If a visitor were to hover over the cert or click on it, your site wouldn't be identified as secure, and the visitor would know you're a scam... so are you better off for stealing the image? The point of the logo is CONFIDENCE... confidence in your site, and confidence in the SSL technology... and the ability of your customer to verify that the place they are giving their private info is indeed your site. The moment you blow that, you might as well be selling out of a pushcart. |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Thanks for the info, I am actually only look for answer like YES or No, It is so NICE for you to put so many words in the writing
|
Re: Trustlogo not floating
A yes or no answer doesn't help you learn anything...and you clearly need some education on this topic.

Re: Trustlogo not floating
Comodo offers another trust logo besides the ugly red floatie. It doesn't float so you can place it wherever you want. The colors are pretty neutral so it shouldn't clash with most color schemes. See this page from their knowledge base.

Re: Trustlogo not floating
... talk about ugly ;-)
well, nothing more subjective then personal taste :-) I like the floating one and think the floating aspect has the advantage of being visible everywhere a visitor goes ... maybe not the most beautiful logo ever designed but it stands out which it should imo. A constant reminder of the trust aspect of the site. |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
The thing I hate about the floatie is the complete lack of control over how it displays. I tired it and it covered up stuff on my pages. Minor things like the total amount due on my checkout page. I asked Comodo if I could keep it from floating so I could place it properly at the lower right of my page and the answer was no. A case of corporate branding run amok.

Re: Trustlogo not floating
A good point; covering important content is undesirable ... didn't think of that and in my case luckely this didn't happen yet ... but I'll look at this closely.

Ralph, I managed to make it stationary. Don't remember how... I'm not sure which ugly logo i like better -- I hated the "corner of trust" when it was floating, but the other one is not much better -- I opted for red ugly, and figured out how to make it "not float" as like on your site, it was covering up key content... I think I placed it in the footer... I don't have time to fish out the code this instant, but I will in 2 hours... |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
in home.tpl [BEFORE] </head>
Code:
{if $smarty.server.HTTPS eq "on"} ============= in bottom.tpl [AFTER] Code:
{ include file="menu_foot.tpl" menu_content=$smarty.capture.menu } Code:
<td><div align="right"> I know you guys want me to lose the <script> from the <head> area... but I don't know how to do it. This code made the Comodo corner logo stationary... I'm not touching it. |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Doh! That's easy. They have two javascripts. One for floating and one that you can place yourself. They just tell you to use the floatie with the ugly red triangle and the place it yourself with the ugly seal. But since both javascripts take the image as a parameter you can use whatever you want with either. I guess that means you can design your own if you were so inclined. I guess I'll stick with the ugly seal. It fits in best with my checkout page.

Re: Trustlogo not floating
I just got an SSL cert from Comodo and I am debating which seal to use. I think I will stay with the regular seal. The corner of trust aberration covers some of the content on my site. Is there a way to insert the seal above the Quick Links on the left nav column? I want to make it visible right when the page opens.
Also, I don't have a clue as to how to insert the logo even at the bottom of the left nav, so it shows on every single page of the site, including the secured pages. I have a custom designed site and I am curious as how to do that. I know some html, but that's it. Thanks for helping this newbie to x-cart. |
Re: Trustlogo not floating
Many thanks... you saved me a ton of aggravation.
|
Re: Trustlogo not floating
I got it to float on the bottom left corner, but as you scroll down the page it bounces up and down. Is there something I can do to stop that.
Thanks Michael |
