Permission Denied

I am trying to edit customer/home.tpl. I can go into there, remove what I want removed, but then when I save it, it comes to an error:

Permission denied error!
File /customer/home.tpl was not saved.

I don't get it. I've edited this tpl before.

Thanks!

Terri

check that the permissions are set for 666 rather then 644

terriv 04-17-2003 11:11 AM

Where/how do I do that?

TIA,

Terri

use your file manager in your hosting control panel or use your ftp client (cuteftp etc)

I'm sorry, Shan, but I still have no clue what to go in to when I go into my ftp client. Where do I find permissions?

shan 04-17-2003 11:37 AM

do a search for "chmod" , that will give you an idea of what its all about

terriv 04-17-2003 12:40 PM

Well, I guess I'm really, really stupid cause I have no idea what you're talking about, or where to do the search. :( I did a search on the internet, but it just got me more confused. I guess I have to be told where to go, how to do it. :? 'cause I don't know anything more now than I did when I sent the first cry for help...

Use Cute FTP

Use Cute FTP

Then right click and chmod.

Just curious what causes .tpl files to need a permission change to begin with. Is it because files were uploaded thru FTP?

I'm one of those that likes to know the 'whys' behind stuff cause if I messed something up along the way I will know what NOT to do next time.

yes, because of ftp.

If you use ssh it keeps the permission settings
