How to install a new template (Fashion Mosaic)

Hey,
I purchased from x-cart store a template Fashion Mosaic to my x-cart 4.0.17 store,

but I don't know to install it?

Thanks,
Itamar.

Read the instructions included with the files.

I do not understand how they want us to copy the files to our existing xcart directory.

Do I need to open each folder separate and copy the files over. For instance, only a small portion of the files are needing to be overwritten. Do I need to browse into each folder both on my existing xcart and the new skin files and copy the ones over?

Installation of a new skin

I too have just purchase some skins that I wish to use on my cart.
There were no accompanying notes for installation and all I got was a file called skins_for_x-cart-4[1].0.17_Flexy_Rectangles

can you advise?

balinor 01-05-2006 04:34 AM

If you unzip the file, everything you need is inside.

Skin Installation

It is not a zip file from the download area in my communicationarea. The download is directly a .tpl file only.

It reads: skins_for_x-cart-4.0.17_Flexy_Rectangles.tgz

305 Kb Nov 14 2005 12:03 Vladimir Semyonov
"Flexy Rectangles" template set for X-Cart 4.0.17

balinor 01-05-2006 05:46 AM

That is a zip file.

perfphysio 01-05-2006 06:02 AM

Zip File .tgz

What program do you need to open and read a tgz file. I have never heard of it. I thought .zip was a zip file?

balinor 01-05-2006 06:04 AM

WinRar or you can uncompress the file directly on your server via Shell access.

Installing a new skin

OK, I have downloaded the program and have "unzipped" the files which all look great. I have read the assistance file but i am still not exactly sure where to put this template files. I have a parent folder called x-cart, then templates, then 4 or 5 options, then inside those the files.

The installation notes suggest I will be able to select the one I wish to use following uploading (or copy/pasting) them onto the server. At what folder level should I post them? And in which directory?

Is it posible to do this via the edit template part of the admin or should I do it directly onto the server. Sorry for being a little less techie than is necessary here

balinor 01-05-2006 10:56 AM

You need to upload the files to their respective directories via FTP. You cannot do it via the X-Cart admin area. Perhaps you should have X-Cart do this for you.....

Or...you could stop using short answers and, instead, explain how to do it here and that way all of the rest of us can benefit from the information.

If you're trying to help then...help.

:)

perfphysio 01-12-2006 01:05 AM

I did get x-cart to do it for me. Now I see what folders they go in! It is a really simply upload once you know where to stick the files.

In my case it was httpdocs>>schemes>>templates. They stuck the complete folders (e.g. flex rectangles auto etc) into the templates folder.

This made them all accessible from the php install page. Hope this helps you guys

remember the forum is run by volunteers who have their own jobs to do and answer plenty of posts every day and dont always have time to spoon feed every request. The only place that you are assured a step by step explanation is xcart help desk. Simple things like installing templates will be well covered in either the tar file you download or elsewhere in the forums

balinor 01-12-2006 04:04 AM

Sometimes I don't even know why I bother with this place :(

denlem 01-12-2006 12:40 PM

Balinor,

Just wait until he installs it on a site that has been modified. That will put a smile on your face!

thanks

thanks perfphysio, it's the simple things that catch us out, put entire folder neon_lights_sport or whatever in templates folder.

I think that the problem may be that the 'volunteers' have been 'volunteering' to long and have become calloused to the questions new users ask. I for one have refrained in the past from asking questions in here because of this exact reason. What may be simple to some after answering 100 times, may not be so for another. I only ask that 'some' of the 'volunteers' make this a professional forum and sometimes even a pleasureable experience.

Just my 2 cents..
Shooter

Because you know the program and have a love of others?

You truely are experienced at Xcart, but at times seem a little calloused because you been here since it broke its first tooth. Count to 10 sometimes and give yourself a break.

Be well,
Shooter

The frustration stems from people being lazy and not:

1. Reading the manual

2. Searching the forum for answers

3. Reading and following the forum rules

Newbie or not, there is no reason to post a question that has been covered in the manual or answered 100 times in the forum.

If my answers seem 'short' it is not because I am being callous, it is because I simply want to provide an answer/link quickly. I don't have time to write a nice little letter to everyone who posts a question :)
