Improved x-cart templates

Does anyone know how I would be able to change the text in the central space so that it is produced further up the source code? I have added H1 and H2 tages to the central space but they are being produced on line 335 of the source code, I would really like this code to be much higher as it is currently not very search engine friendly. I'm also looking to do the same for the category pages and product pages.

Has anyone got any ideas?

You would need to convert the templates to CSS....a very daunting task.

Paulw 08-18-2005 03:37 AM

I thought that was the case, do you know if anyone has verntured there before?

balinor 08-18-2005 03:38 AM

Many have tried...and failed :)

think I will have to have a chat with guy I know in UK, as the other problem with x-cart is that it is not accessible, using css would solve this problem as well, huge job though but I think it would be worth it.

I am currently working on a CSS template with a friend of mine as well, but it is a slow process and I don't have much time to devote to it.

what youll find is that youll end up with a skin thats a pain to upgrade

Exactly

so if css is not a good idea, can you suggest how I could improve the coding without css to make the H1 & H2 tages higher up the code?

balinor 08-18-2005 04:14 AM

Well, first thing would be to see what the code is in front of them. I think you'll find much of it is JavaScript, which is unfortunately necessary. Also, all of the side menu items on the left will show up in the code ahead of the central space, so you already have two strikes against you :(

Paulw 08-18-2005 05:04 AM

OK, so if I move all non essential items from the left onto the right, that will help with search engines,Therefore all that is on the left are categories, and my keyword text, also if I have some sort of small intro on left with H1 and H2 tags this will also help?

I wouldn't compromise the look and functionality of your store simply for the minimal boost in SEO that moving the code slightly up the page will provide. You are still going to have all that JS up top anyway.

Plus, the left hand column is the natural place people look for navigation, moving everthing to the right may end up ticking off your customers :)

Paulw 08-18-2005 05:10 AM

That's true, thanks v much for the advice.

If you really want a big boost in SEO, here's the solution:

http://www.safetynetweb.com/Dynamic-Search-Engine-Friendly-URLs-pr-1.html

Also, you have some html code in your title tag...you'll want to get rid of that.

Paulw 08-18-2005 05:16 AM

Thanks for advice, I really want to get the search friendly url mod but it only works for 4x and i'm still on 3x. Also what html do I have on the title tag?

balinor 08-18-2005 05:17 AM

You've got a in there.
