Mod: integrate Submenus within our template

Hi We are trying to work with a submenu so we can place various info, product and sub-product info in this style.

Look at http://www.bluewaremedia.com/lightpointonline/web/ under the browse store Button.

Is there a mod or plug-in to allow this ?

thank you for your great assistance

J.

Hi J. I assume you are talking about having that flyout menu automatically pick up new categories/sub-categories without having to hard code them?

Jeffos 04-21-2005 03:02 PM

Yes. Correct from the admin. With ability to add new info if needed

balinor 04-21-2005 03:05 PM

To my knowledge, there is not one that exists commercially (other than fancy categories). May want to post in the Pro Services - Requests forum.

Jeffos 04-21-2005 03:13 PM

So we won't be able to add additional info in the list but can the Plug-in fancy Categories allow us to display this for example :

Browse By Brand
-- Brand A
-- Brand B
-- Brand B

Browse By Type
-- Type A
-- Type B
-- Type C (When click goes to the main type C Page or goes to static page)

let me know . Thank you

J

Have a look at the demos:

http://x-cart.com/fancy_categories.html#online_demo

I will caution you that in my experience, this module can cause a significant load time issue depending on how deep your sub-categories are.

Jeffos 04-21-2005 05:21 PM

It will most likely be 2 levels deep only.

wudup, may i suggest my mod that i am working on, if i can get it finalized with one bit of helpful coding that i just havent been able to think of here:

http://forum.x-cart.com/viewtopic.php?t=18857

check it out in action here, try the pumps category....

http://www.mindells.com/home.php

may not be exactly wut u are thinking of, but id like to help if i can...it would only load one subcat at a time, no java to have to preload for the flyouts, and much more search engine friendly.....

Thanks a lot for the post. I'll finish my integration and let you know if I need to look into your option.

Many thanks

J.

tell me, is it something similar to this?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=106

where you can browse by the brands UNDER that subcat?

if so, i am currently trying to work on a mod for this to integrate into my submenu mod i posted a couple posts earlier

Jeffos 04-24-2005 04:51 PM

pretty sure it isnt, as it is in .asp instead of .php...but like i said, i am currently working on a similar mod completely original with my own coding, and a little help from some others if i can get a few questions answered (first of all i have to come up with the questions i need help with probably  )

jburba,

Here is my store http://lightpointonline.com/store

and where I have problem is on the Browse mouseover like on our template.

http://bluewaremedia.com/lightpointonline/web/

Can your mod do the trick ? it seems that the Fancy cat won't allow for the Browse by option and need custom codig to allow it. We need to launch in few days and we're stuck on this.

Let me know

thank you

J

No, my mod is not quite like that, if you want to see it:

http://www.mindells.com/home.php

and then click on the Pumps category, that is how MY submenu will work. And I am also integrating a 'Browse by Brands in this section' type submenu into it also.

It looks to me as if you need to just pull the JAVA information from the template that the 'Browse Store' area is located, and place it into the 'Menu' template, modify it to drop out instead of down, and to pull subcategories instead of 'by type' and by 'brand', and you should be set. I know I make it sound fairly simple, but I really don't think you should be having as much of a problem as it sounds.

...

Jeffos 04-28-2005 07:18 AM

:-( I have no idea on how do do this. I need some help .. I thought the plug-in Fancy could do the trick. Now I am stuck..

Any advise ?

J
