Templates from 7dana.com or are there better?

Hello all,

Just got x-cart setup and before entering my products I am wanting to change the look. I may just go with the blue skin instead of the default (but how do you change this?) I am also looking at some premade templates from www.7dana.com, particularly this one:

http://www.7dana.com/shop/X-Cart-7Orange-p-30.html

I like it because it is compatable with most browsers and has the same color theme as our other site. Do you see any problems with this? Has anyone used their templates? Are there better ones out there? Will it mess up any future upgrades?

Thanks,
Josh

Josh,

I can recommend his templates....I use one on this site...

http://www.purwaterfiltersonline.com

It was very easy to install.

Hope that helps,

Louise

Thanks for the input.

What did the installation require? Also I see you didn't pay the extra $80 to remove the link to dana7.com, I am debating whether this is worth it.

I manage dozens of sites and the only thing that prevents me from buying these skins is the fact that I would have to pay to remove the "designed" by text.

If X-cart made it so we couldn't get rid of their logo, I would go with another cart. The same goes for skins as I own some of X-carts, even though they aren't as good (though the recent 4.x skins are great), they don't force you to advertise.

Thus, 7dana ... get rid of the copyright stuff and I'd recommend your skins to my clients. For your standard price, X-cart's latest skins are better.

Mike,

I do agree with you there. I don't care for the fact he puts his name on every template...but at the time I needed a fast solution and it worked out the best.

I was just stating the fact that it was an easy template to work with.

Thanks,

Louise

I have one of there skins & it's great well worth money.
As for copyright who cares give the guy credit, these are great skins, how many customers are going to be bothered about who designed it?

After all how many web designers usually put there mark in footer.
Give credit where credits due.

Also in life you pay for what you get.
Just my input & is not aimed personally at anyone.

You can purchase a copyright free version from them too at a higher cost so the option is there.

I submitted a custom design request to 7dana over a week ago and haven't heard a thing yet. Is this guy still in business?

Zaja 03-30-2005 10:43 AM

MetalLaw, sorry but I can't find your message in my inbox...please resend this email because I have had problems with the email last week.

And regarding custom design, I am unable to take any custom works now...too many pending jobs(till the end of next month).. sorry.

MetalLaw 03-30-2005 10:57 AM

Goran, my custom order wasn't really 100% custom. It was a slightly modified Ferrari template. We corresponded by email over the past couple of months regarding modifications to the Clean Blue design but then I decided to switch to the Ferrari design - I sent you the proposed modifications by email and never got a response. Then, last Wednesday, I submitted an actual order through your website. My name is Wojciech Potrykus. I received an automated confirmation of receipt back from your site but nothing else.

Did you get it? I'm ready to do business whenever you are.

Can somebody elaborate on the install process? What are the steps?

If you have customized your skins does it overwrite them?

Jon, you can use TWO ways to install the skin:

1. method(overwrite):
-----------------
- Upload all files inside the 7_dana_theme folder to the X-Cart/skin1 directory.

2. method:
-----------------
- Upload 7_dana_theme folder to the directory where X-Cart has been installed.
- Open the xcart_root/smarty.php file in the text editor and find this lines:

$smarty->template_dir = $xcart_dir."/skin1";
$smarty->config_dir = $xcart_dir."/skin1";
$smarty->secure_dir = $xcart_dir."/skin1";
$smarty->assign("ImagesDir",$xcart_web_dir."/skin1/images");
$smarty->assign("SkinDir",$xcart_web_dir."/skin1");

and replace all words "skin1" with the new SKIN name(directory name).

EXAMPLE:
$smarty->template_dir = $xcart_dir."/7_amazon_red";
$smarty->config_dir = $xcart_dir."/7_amazon_red";
$smarty->secure_dir = $xcart_dir."/7_amazon_red";
$smarty->assign("ImagesDir",$xcart_web_dir."/7_amazon_red/images");
$smarty->assign("SkinDir",$xcart_web_dir."/7_amazon_red");

So if the template requires and edit to home.tpl and you have customized your home.tpl you will need to implement your home.tpl changes into the template home.tpl correct?

Zaja 03-30-2005 12:28 PM

Yes, correct.

You hava a PM. I sent you the copy of the automated email I got from 7dana.com which includes all my specs.

Awesome templates but too pricey...

Greets all,

Call me cheap if you want too, but I have to toss in my 2 cents. I sell and manage many websites and I can tell you this.

I would buy 7Dana's templates all day long if they were sold without his copyright info for the base price like the 7Dana template which is $119.00 but if you want it with the removed copyright it jumps to $199.00 and prices me right out of the game and instantly kills any opportunity for me to cost effectively add these to my re-sold present and future sites.

I would include his templates as "standard" in every site I sold from here on out I like them so much. But at $199.00 just for the skin for my sites unfortunately is a show stopper.

You should try a pricing experiment. get rid of the price hike copyright thing and watch your sales figures SOAR!

And please let me know when you do, because you will have a steady flow of orders coming from me for sure.

Keep prices where they are at and I am forced to go with X-Cart templates.

I know some of you will flame me for being "cheap" but let's face it everyone's looking for low prices (my customers in particular, globally) and I must always have an eye on my bottom line.

But they are excellent looking templates for sure!

Nice work.

P.S. Do you offer a re-seller program? Perhaps you could give us re-sellers a price break with the copy right issue and only charge straight retail customers the additional copyright costs.

Contact me if you would be interested in working with me this way.

Kind regards,
Ern

I agree, i would like to purchase one of these skins for some clients but since im not a big developer the price w/o copyright is just a little too high. I think the base price is about right and something they could afford

bluecat 04-01-2005 04:04 PM

Highly recommended here as well. :)

Zaja 04-02-2005 11:58 AM

Yes....there's a point in what you are saying about copyright removal policy.
