X-Cart - reBOOT - Responsive Template - Bootstrap Based

26th Feb 2020 - X-Cart reBOOT goes into 'sunset' mode.

This means that while reBOOT will still be supported and updated, it will not receive any new features.

reBOOT reDUX is available, which is a complete rewrite of the template based on Bootstrap v4.5.2

I can't wait for your new template, I've had every template off you since the 'smart template' and they were epic, everytime you release a template you up your game, so I can't wait to see this!

Can't wait for it to be released, got a few new clients who are wanting a ecommerce store so I'll more than likely be using this.

I'm waiting for this release too, I need to decide which template to go with by next week, it would be great if you can show us how it looks like, even if it isn't 100% complete. I don't need checkout and mobile parts of template, so I don't care if they're not finished yet.

Hi Phil, Great job so far!! I was able to use for a bit while you had the store open yesterday (or day before, can't remember...)

I love the way you worked in the On Sale and New Arrivals. It took me a while to figure out that it's part of the Hot Products Module since I'm using Gold. So I purchased Hot Products today and I'll be inline for reBOOT as soon as it's for sale!

Hi Phil, I'm loving it!

Would it be possible to modify the "Delete Product" red button in the mini-cart. I found myself clicking on it to close the mini-cart popup window. It was so automatic I didn't even notice that I had removed the item from the cart until later when I looked up and saw "Cart is Empty".

98% Done! :-)

I think I used the most popular CSS Framework of the moment, but Bootstrap is my favorite (tons of features, videos, docs). Finally someone listen lots of my messages here about Twitter Bootstrap Framework.

You did a great job Phil. This is a real responsive template. I would like to see if you'll come over a while with an Admin theme (X-Cart needs one finally). Keep going!

That would be a huge undertaking, but I'm sure profitable if someone has the time to make one :)

Hi Phil, Thank you for sending the files so quickly after purchase! Install was very smooth and quick. Looking under the hood you've really made things much easier for the user to get up and running fast and for those of use who tweak to easily find the file we're looking for. There are a few things I miss (from Ability) but the change make sense for a responsive template that has to live with the recent x-cart changes and now the 3 versions.

I've not had much time to test and have a couple of formatting issues but I need to see if it's from my settings. If it seems to be reBOOT I'll send to you.

Hi Phil,

I'm having a fantastic time working with reBOOT!

The feature I really needed was to have Custom Menus that functioned the way they did in Ability. I solved this by using the <li>....</li> custom menu code from Ability and placing it in the the Speedbar <li>...</li> spot and then used the reBOOT template option of Speedbar for the Header Menu Type. The menu stays responsive and works perfectly!

You Can :-) If you have Gold you can Purchase the X-CART Hot Products Module http://www.x-cart.com/extensions/modules/hot-products.html

Phil has already built in support because it's included in Gold Plus. Showing New Arrivals and On Sale products in the Specials Menu are check box options in x-cart modules. I have also added a "On Sale" tab in my top menu.

I use image sprites in my Ability template which I now need to modify to be responsive. This page http://tobyj.net/responsive-sprites/ seems to have the easiest technique I've found so far. Do you have a better source or have you found a sprite tool for responsive websites?

That does look like a good technique. There's dozens of sprite generators out there, but few that are responsive. I'll keep an eye out for more. I've recommended InstantSprite in the template docs. Here's another good one.

I did consider using one main sprite image in the template, which is the ideal for cutting down HTTP requests. But not everyone is familiar with them and updating/maintaining the CSS can be tricky.

I would also recommend compressing all images including sprites with the use of PNGGauntlet.

Oh Boy! More stuff I get to play with :-) Bad part is I've been so busy the last few days I've had no time to work on reBOOT. In a day or so I'll get back to work on trying to get a responsive sprite to work and I'll post when I do.

Hi Phil,

I've finally found a solution that gives responsive sprite images. I used InstantSprite to create the image sprite (great tool!) which in my example is 4 images 209px by 89px each, lined up horizontally for a total horizontal width of 836px. I do not use any of the CSS or code that it generates and instead us the CSS and code below.

The example below displays my 4 sprite promo images in bar.tpl just like I had in Ability except now the images are responsive.

Very nice Paul... I do advocate using sprites, but it's always a good idea to check the 'Net' tab in Firebug to see if you actually get much of a gain in speed or overhead saving, for the work put in :)

Hi Phil, Thank you so much for telling me about the 'Net' tab! I had not used that before.

My conversion from Ability to reBOOT is going very well and I'm ecstatic with the much more modern look and feel. So far I've been able to include all of my Ability tweaks and keep everything responsive. I still have a lot of work to do but you've organized and simplified everything so much it's a joy to work with!

To all Smart, Ability, and Adapt users:

IMHO I highly recommend all Smart, Ability, and Adapt users upgrade to reBOOT so they can start working on it now. X-Cart v 4.5.6 should be out this Summer and with all the changes Qualiteam has been doing there could be issues with the older templates which are NOT supported past 4.5.5.

These are my own person thoughts.

Having problems with Thumbnail images
have set css width to 70px height 160px
Admin have set appearance thumbnail to same settings
Image size 120x160 does not reduce in size it just shows half the image
