I would like to get more information about this improvement. As I checked, phpunsharpmask.php has the same parameteres as before for sharpening:

function UnsharpMask($img, $amount = 120, $radius = 0.4, $threshold = 1)

In my opinion after installing 4.5.2 I do not see any changes in good. Photos still have sharp ugly edges. I already provided you a good way for DPI and changing parameters, but QT engineers don't like ideas from outside ...

You should first upgrade your X-Cart database from 4.4.5 to 4.5.0 using the corresponding DB upgrade script.

Then install a fresh 4.5.0 with the upgraded database using the $blowfish_key value from your original 4.4.5 installation's config.php file.

Finally, upgrade your new 4.5.0 installation to 4.5.2 using 4.5.0->4.5.2 upgrade package.

If you have customizations in your original 4.4.5 store, you will need to transfer your customizations to the new 4.5.2 store.

I just tried this update 4.5.1 -> 4.5.2 on my localhost and upon completion the admin side worked fine but the front end showed a blank white page with a "500 Internal Server Error"

After doing some research I was able to get the front end working by disabling the On_Sale module.

Using winmerge I compared a default v4.5.2 installation to an updated v4.5.1 -> v4.5.2 installation and one thing that jumped out to me was the differance in /skin/common_files/lib/jquery-min.js

A stock v4.5.2 /skin/common_files/lib/jquery-min.js starts as follows (file to large to show complete file here)

Shouldn't a stock non-modified v4.5.2 be the same as an non-modified v4.5.1 -> v4.5.2 site?
If so, either I have missed something with the update or there is an issue with the upgrade script.

The file in question is not updated during 4.5.1->4.5.2 upgrade.

You probably have this file from 4.4.5 installation - this particular X-Cart version includes a newer version of the file (1.7.1). It was downgraded back to version 1.6.4 in the next X-Cart version - 4.5.0, due to problems related to the latest version (1.0.7) of the jQuery library.

In my paticular case being I am still in development with the 4.5.x branch, would it work to,

1. Upload all the files from a stock v4.5.2 (except for config.php)
2. Run the /Upgrade_from_4.5.1_to_4.5.2/upgrade/4.5.1-4.5.2/patch.sql patch from the admin

Well I decided to try the upgrade on our server and all went well, but enabling the On_Sale module it still breaks the front end causing it to show a blank white page with a "500 Internal Server Error"

Disabling the On_Sale module fixes the issue and the store front works fine.
Not sure what may be causing the issue but I am guessing it has to do with a javascript conflict.

Have you checked the log files for possible errors? 4.5.2 uses jQuery 1.6.4 and the upgrades to 4.5.2 do not replace this. 4.5.1 uses same jQuery 1.6.4 as well

Also when you say On_Sale module I assume you are talking about AlteredCart On Sale? There could be a problem with that 3rd party mod and 4.5.2, better contact Bill

checked by default and "apply patch" button enabled on the patch/upgrade page. This should be DISABLED, the person doing the upgrade have to "opt-in" not "opt-out". This leads to problems.

Just out of curiosity, if you do continue with the upgrade when there are files that can not be patched, does the database get updated?
Seems to me I remember that if there were file/files that could not be patched and you continued with the upgrade regardless, the database did not get patched (if indeed there was a patch.sql included in the upgrade).

Yes, if there are warnings but you continue database does NOT get patched. So you have 2 problems - some needed php files may not get patched causing php errors AND database is not patched. On top of that it is very easy to miss that because the note for the database not being patched is buried in the middle of a long list of files and text. A non-experienced user will easily fall into this trap.

This problem may be due to code added to 4.5.2 for module with same name. There is this in home_main.tpl


These modules do not exists in standard XC installation but are part of http://mods.x-cart.com/ yet the above code is included in 4.5.2 and the upgrade packs. I would guess there is more code about these modules in php files causing confussion with AC On Sale? You can try to delete the onsale related lines in home_main.tpl and see if front end works

To use Paypal Access do you need Paypal Standard or Standard Pro? We can't use Paypal Standard Pro in Australia...

So I tested the new features Lexity and PayPal Access.

Lexity - does not work with out of the box code. Code doesn't match what Lexity gives you when registering. In the Lexity service_head.tpl the src line has to be replaced with the code from Lexity - the one included is for QT as partners

replace with (where XXXXX is yor Lexity code)

There is also Google analytics code in the one provided by Lexity which does not exists in XC file but it works without it

PayPal Access - creating the application on PP is as described but the login popup in XC returns error. Either there is something more on PP to do (I don't see anything else there) or most likely the module in XC backend is not working correctly to allow for API keys to be entered.

These 2 new features do not work ok

A rushed release perhaps? Certainly doesn't make it easy for us skin developers.

Also seems odd why they'd include new features in one skin only (eg. wish list carousel). Shouldn't it be all skins?

Looking at payment methods in admin with PayPal added - I see PayPal Advanced and Payflow Link. Do they work ok (given the fact PayPal Access does not)? Anyone tested them yet?

I tested PayPal Advance it works but the check out process is combersome and doesnot look professional as the Iframe takes you to another page just to enter only credit card numbers. If I was a customer on a website and saw this I would cancel delete every thing and close my browser.

This has been a problem with OPC forever - all iframe methods should load on the same page or in a popup if needed but not redirect to another page. Unfortunatelly QT did not resolve this even with the new release

On Fast Lane Check out IFrame needs to be integrated properly mostly likely on the shipping and payment page. The current setup doesn't not allow you to collect payment until after the order process is already completed then you are taken to a separate page to enter credit card number..

No, PayPal Access is not related to PayPal payment solutions.

PayPal Access allows your customers to use their PayPal account to sign in to your X-Cart store. When a customer signs in using PayPal Access, X-Cart creates a customer account in the store using the details stored on the customer's PayPal account.
