Unused free X-Payments licenses have been annulled on March 1st 2013

Hi Everyone,

Edited on March 1st 2013:
That's it. Unused free X-Payments licenses have been annulled today (March 1st 2013)

I am keeping below thread for history and closing for new posts.
If you have questions - post them to us using your HelpDesk account.

----------------

Below was posted on 11-14-2012

Back in May 2010 we gifted some amount of free X-Payments licenses to all our merchants who existed in our database at that moment.

Many of them were used by our merchants. Some were not for various reasons.

By posting this announcement I want to inform the community that we are going to annul unused free X-Payments licenses on March 1st 2013.

Here is our FAQ for you to understand what we are going to do and what you need to do:

[FAQ starts here]

Do I have a free X-Payments license?

If you had an X-Cart or a LiteCommerce license in your account at https://secure.qtmsoft.com before June 2010 - you do.

How are you going to learn whether or not a free X-Payments license is not used?

By empty license URL associated with such a license in our database.

Do you know if it is free X-Payments license or a paid one?

Yes, we do. It is all in our database. A paid license is associated with an order in our database. A free license does not have such a marker.

I haven't used my free X-Payments license, but I am going to. What should I do?

Install X-Payments somewhere and let us know its location by entering its URL for your free X-Payments license at https://secure.qtmsoft.com

I did use my free X-Payments license, am I safe now?

Almost, just make sure your free X-Payments license has URL set in your HelpDesk account at https://secure.qtmsoft.com

I do not want to use my free X-Payments license? Can I resell it to someone else?

No, you can't. Free X-Payments license is a Not For Resale one and you can't move it out of your account to someone else. We won't tolerate reselling free X-Payments licenses in any way. Use it for yourself (e.g. your shop or your client's project) or do not use.

I do not visit this forum. How do I know that you are going to annul unused free X-Payments licenses?

We are sending newsletters to all our customers who we gifted a free X-Payments license back in May 2010. We are going to repeat them once a month till March 2013.

I did use my free X-Payments license, but left my license URL empty and it is March 2nd 2013 now and I've just read this post/your newsletters

Contact us and we will resolve the issue.

[/FAQ ends here]

I hope I didn't forgot to address all possible questions. In case I did feel free to post your questions below and I'll address them. But don't forget to read what I've just posted.

What is X-Payment and what does it do for an x-Cart site?

Re: Unused free X-Payments licenses will be annulled on March 1st 2013

I did receive this email and so some of my clients. Personal opinion and questions:
1. This is like 3.5 month notice which is better than no notice at all.
2. I do have free X-Payments which was granted free when its price was $189 - yes $189
3. I wanted to use it but with all its bugs and maintenance and complicating the checkout process instead of making it easier it just didn't worth it... payment gateway hosted page or iframe page does the same and site is out of scope completely
4. I still have plans of using it at some point when it becomes more user friendly not only from customer's point of view but also admin... if this ever happens.
5. With this announcement right now I am starting to think I will never get the chance to use it...
6. You say I cannot resell this license, I don't want to resell it, not even thinking about it, if I wanted to do this I would have done it 2 years ago. But can I give it away to someone? After all it's free and will stay free. Can I use it on a site which is not in my account and I am not the owner? As we all know it is a bad practice for XC developer to have someone elses accounts in there own account....

It's understandable you want to do some spring cleanup of the house.... but do we need another "customers points" issue?

Re: Unused free X-Payments licenses will be annulled on March 1st 2013

Steve, just install it somewhere and submit URL to that installation in your license URL. We won't annul free X-P licenses that have non-empty URLs.
If you've already installed X-P somewhere - put URL to that copy and you are safe.
You will be able to use the license in the future after that.

Since this is your license you can use for whomever you wish but it will remain in your custody and in your HelpDesk account since it is not transferable. All support issues will be handled through your account.

Re: Unused free X-Payments licenses will be annulled on March 1st 2013

Does it matter if the url is live or not? It will not be fake one of course.

Just trying to clear this up before it becomes an issue :)

Expect to get more questions on this as well as some maybe angry customers.

Re: Unused free X-Payments licenses will be annulled on March 1st 2013

Steve, any URL will indicate us that you are going to use the license.

I do understand that there will be customers with questions about this.
That's why we
1) giving almost 4 months notice about this
2) doing this thread on X-Cart forums
3) sending newsletters with detailed explanation what to do.

We are not annulling all free X-P licenses, just unused ones. And I repeat we explain what to do in order to save the license even if you haven't used it.

We do all this with open hands.

Alex,

How do I confirm that I did it correctly and won't lose the free license? It's not clear after I added a URL.

Thanks,

Carrie

I don't even see X-Payments in my licenses section so I can add an url to it

Re: Unused free X-Payments licenses will be annulled on March 1st 2013

Steve, make sure you configured license filter to show all licenses in "My licenses" section of your HelpDesk account.

Carrie, if there is URL of your X-Payments installation you are safe now.

Duh... found it. Actually it did have an url associated with it, I guess from the time I was testing it for live site...
Thanks Alex

Alex,

What I don't understand is this part:

License products:
X-Payments (download license)

The 'X-Payments (download license)' is grey in color. Is that supposed to be a link or something?

Carrie

In my license section it is the same.
but the URL is assigned.
maybe because it's a NFR license it appears gray?

Free X-Payments licenses that we gifted back in May 2010 are gray because they are Not-For-Resale. We will correct their color in some time later, but you should not worry about that.

Re: Unused free X-Payments licenses will be annulled on March 1st 2013

Thanks QT for the heads-up; Today we installed X-Payments to avoid losing our free license. I have confirmed the admin interface is working. But our QT account's "My Licenses" section does not have any listing for X-Payments. It shows all the paid licenses, but nothing listed for this free one. Is there something special needed to make it appear so I can register the URL? Or is this something I need to report to tech support?

Thomas, make sure your licenses filter is configured to show **ALL** licenses in your HelpDesk account. You may default it to X-Cart only licenses.

Alex, I don't see an "ALL" option in my license screen. If you mean I should adjust the Brand and Status filters, then I have tried many combinations in those pull-downs. Here's my screen shot, maybe you can point to the specific area I need to configure to allow X-Payments to appear:

Empty out the URL field. It is filtered.

I've registered this to a domain just to keep it but haven't installed it anywhere yet as I am going to use it with a different domain in the future, how do I stand, what action do I need to take?

Thanks.
