Editing with Dreamweaver

I am new to x-cart and I love it however I now want to give my store a custom look. I am use to using Frontpage and a little bit of Dreamweaver to design my sites. Is there anyway to edit xcart backgrounds and templates in the same fashion via dreamweaver. I have found many posts about this however they all tell a different way of how to go about using dreamweaver. Can someone please help a young newbie out and give me the correct advice.

Thanks
George

To use Dreamweaver with Smarty tags just download Smarty Dreamweaver extension from here:
http://smarty.php.net/contribs/misc/dreamweaver_smartytags.zip.

Unzip and copy the 'smartytags' folder into DreamWeaver's "Configuration\ThirdPartyTags" directory and enjoy the visually editing Smarty template in Dreamweaver.

Is there anything else that needs to be done?

I copied the files to third-party folder, and nothing. When I edit the .tpl files they don't have the markup

So when you edit the .tpl file in DW design mode you don't see any markup, something like this?

I've got the same problem, I have the smarty tags folder in my third party tags directory, but I don't see any markups in design view, just code inside of tables. I've been working with it this way for quite some time, so I've gotten used to it, but it would make it easier to edit if I could get these markups to appear.

Nope, don't see any of the markup.

I don't know if it's because I added .tpl to my file/types in preferences when I bought my first copy of x-cart.

That was the only way I could figure out how to edit the templates without first renaming them to .htm or .html

Try this...copy all files from the 'smartytags' folder into DreamWeaver's "Configuration\ThirdPartyTags" directory.

That worked for me, thanks.

does dreamweaver mx work with TPL tags? I have copied the smarty tags files into the third party folder but I still get the error: "Can't find a valid editor for this file extension."

Thanks!
