Changing Skins
 

Hi to all! I am new to PHP and XCart, infact been here for 2 days.

I have a question for XCart users. I purchased the Crystal skin and was wondering how you change it back to the original skins. Could someone please write a step by step as I would probably B***s it up.

How was the crystal skin installed?
Was the old skin1 renamed or deleted or overwritten?

If you run the install.php file again you will see the option to reinstall the skin, this will reinstall the original. But make sure you backup the crystal skin first.

If you want a very easy way to switch skins in the future, get this, I highly recommend it:

xcart installed the skin and it looks like the old one is now known as skin1_original in the www folder, next to it is the skin1 folder. I have tried to rename the old folder to skin1 but this did not work.

Any ideas on the procedure appreciated.

That skin on the fly program looks good also, thanks for that.

No, skin1_original is what is used when you run the install program.

X-Cart uses skin1_original to copy these back into the skin1 directory to reset the templates.

The easiest way to do this would be to, backup skin1 directory completely and then run /install.php to reinstall the standard skin to the cart.

From here you could keep the backup as skin2 in case you ever want to switch back to it. All you do then is rename skin1 to skin1_ORIG and then rename skin2 to skin1 and the crystal skin is back again.

Basically that skin swap mod is a nice easy admin way of doing this.

You will get a little readme file with it, which shows you how to install.
It is very easy.

Created the skinswap folder in the www root, the instructions said xcart root but my site does not have that, here were the instructions.

1. Make a backup copy of xcart/smarty.php just incase. DID

2. Login to your admin area of your X-cart and apply the SQL patch found
in this archive entitled "skinswap.sql". DID

3. Create a subdirectory entitled "skin_swap" in the root installation of
your x-cart. (default is xcart/) This will be your skin repository. DID IN WWW ROOT

4. Copy your existing skin1/ directory into the newly created "skin_swap".
So you have a directory structure like so: DID

|-> xcart (or root)
|-> skin_swap
|-> skin1

5. Copy the file "smarty.php" from this archive over your existing xcart
smarty.php file replacing its contents in its entirety. NOTE: If you
are using 4.0.x version of X-Cart use the file "smarty.php.4.0"
instead. DID AND RENAMED SMARTY.PHP.4.0 TO SMARTY.PHP INSTEAD

6. Now you are ready to start swapping, please read the details below
for a detail description on how the skin swap system works and is
setup! DID NOT WORK

If you follow the instructions correctly it will and does work.

X-Cart still has a root directory, even if your using 4.0.x then the root is your main public_html directory.

if you just want to use the default xcart skin ...

download the version your using
rename skin1 to skin1_old
upload the skin1_original folder from the download to your server
rename skin1_original to skin1

basically whatever is in skin1 folder is what xcart uses to display your store

skin1_original is a backup so you can restore your files
