Sometimes it's best to use a custom title on a page instead of just using the product name, here's a knowledge base entry on how to use the CDSEO page title as the on-page title:
https://www.websitecm.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticl eid=71

You can then modify your skin1/customer/dialog.tpl to use an <h1> around the title (If it's not using one already since it is the default in 4.3.1).

Jon - First of all, I want to thank you guys for a great product. We have been using it since the very beginning.

My question to you is this: Currently using 4.1.8, just starting to play around with 4.3.2. I see that in 4.3.2. there is some/similar CDSEO functionality. Is your product still relevant on the new code?

Hi Carl, yes CDSEO is very relevant. We have a comparison chart at http://www.x-cart-seo.com/cdseo-pro-for-x-cart/cdseo-comparison-chart.php

Hello,

I was getting a sever issue with 1and1 (Error 500 - Internal server error), 1and1 had me change the code on the .htacess file to fix the issue but now I'm getting other issues, like the meta tage and title tag not working. Does anyone know how this code is effecting the mod?

That .htaccess is missing a closing if tag and I noticed that the code in the email I got notifying me about this post is different than the one posted now, so there may be some .htaccess issues. It would be best to submit a support ticket at http://www.websitecm.com/support/ with login access for us to evaluate.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Jon,

I did change the code. It's seems like the code is working without the closing (if tag), but I will close it and see what happens.

I am noticing that it's not rewriting the product pages.

You need login access to what?

Thanks,

Eric

I closed the (if tag) and it didn't seem to effect it either way.

FTP access would help us review log files and do any necessary debugging to see what's happening. A url would help also :)

Yes I got it and have responded.

CDSEO Pro and FTS Feed mananger Pro, and Google Crawl

We had Websitecm install CDSEO Pro couple of weeks ago and what a fantastic Mod. Why have I gone without it for such a long time.

OK, couple of issues I need help on.

I have just checked Google Crawl error and it seems 8,704 of our links are "Restricted by robot.txt" I have copied recommended robot.txt by CDSEO Pro. For example,

http://www.pdahut.com/3-in-1-covertor-for-the-htc-suitable-for-htc-touch-diamond-htc-diamond-100.html?js=n

I'm assuming this is what should happen and is correct as robot.txt restricts "Disallow: /*js=*". Just wanted reassurance.

Before CDSEO Pro, we were 1st page for many of our keywords and I'm assuming while Google re-indexes our site CDSEO Pro URLs, our position is nowhere to be found. Is this normal too? I'm assuming it'll take few weeks for Google to start indexing proper and fingers crossed, we'll have our search position back.

And last, I'm having problem with FTS Feed Manager Pro. I'm trying to export CDSEO Pro URLs to Google base feed. In Feed mapping, I've selected Product URLs as "CDSEO". But the FTS Feed Manager stops at "getting product URLs" stage. I have cleared template cache, but nothing. I don't want Google Merchant Centre to disapprove our account because of URLs as we already experienced problems with them.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Hi Sandip,

Yes those urls should be restricted by robots.txt. Since CDSEO now has the canonical link urls they don't necessarily need to be blocked either though.

Its normal for rankings to flucuate temporarily during the indexing period. Make sure that you installed CDSEO correctly and its working correctly and otherwise don't panic :) We've never had a single person install CDSEO Pro properly and come back to us and say their rankings didn't improve after reindexing.

If your feed manager pro is very old - which it likely is being on 4.0 - its probably configured for CDSEO Basic no pro, so you'll want to upgrade to the latest feed manager version.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Jon, we're already number one in Yahoo because of CDSEO Pro for most of our keywords, and I am sure Bing and Google will slowly but surely do it's work. Fantastic module.

I have just sent a request on websitecm support.

Thanks Jon

Excellent - usually yahoo is the slowest and sometimes takes months while Google typically takes 7-21 days :)

Just wondering,

Is there anyways of exporting product "Page Title" from CDSEO Pro into Firetanks's Feed Manager Pro when creating a Google Base feed? I understand URLs can be selected to CDSEO Pro.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

You can do this with a custom query in your google base feed to query the cdseoLinkTitle from the wcm_cdseo table.

Jon, how do I custom query? I'm assuming I select "php code" in type and what code do input in DATA field?

Thank you very much in advance.

I don't know what the exact code would be off hand but there's information in the feed manager help file about creating custom values.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

I just purchased the CDSEO Pro/XCMS package from Carrie at BCSE without intallation. I am using 4.1 along with featured product manager, MAP pricing, customer rewards, customer rewards referral, X-affliliate, Amazon feed (Magneticone), Feed Manager (Firetank) and XCSEO basic. I was going to install CDSEO Pro tonight, but I read some old posts stating that it does not work with CDSEO Pro and that I need to remove XCSEO (vice turning the module off). Does it function with Featured Product Manager? I can't find any removal instructions for XCSEO basic. I didn't install it - I was suckered into it by an X-Cart vendor that offered "we'll install OUR SEO mod for $100 instead of our usual $200 if you buy it now". Imagine my horror when I went to the modules section of admin and saw that it was the free version along with a "Donation" button. LOL. But anyway that is why I have no documentation. Now, I'm not sure if I made a mistake by buying CDSEO Pro and should just leave the XCSEO alone? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

CDSEO is a replacement for XCSEO, so they don't work together because they aren't intended to. CDSEO has many many benefits over XCSEO - and even more so over the free version. In addition to being 'suckered' into xcseo, the vendor of the module has since been banned from the x-cart forums for questionable practices such as logging into users websites unauthorized and adding links to his website. You would be well advised to remove his software and stay long and far away from anything he provides.

XCSEO can be uninstalled without uninstallation instructions usually by comparing files in the /var/upgrade folder and/or by searching files for key terms (we've uninstalled probably a few dozen). BCSE can probably uninstall it for you and install CDSEO or we provide an XCSEO removal and CDSEO installation including 301 redirects from XCSEO urls to prevent broken links or SEO for a cost of $25 for the xcseo removal and/or $50 for the CDSEO install.

hobbycentral 08-06-2010 09:08 PM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

I understand why they wouldn't work together, I was just wondering if I was inviting trouble trying to remove the XCSEO. Just for the record, the vendor I was referring to wasn't the creator. I'll probably pay someone to remove it.

Thanks
Bill

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

The only trouble you could really get into is if you don't create the 301 redirects. You can do this by putting the XCSEO rewrite code right after "RewriteEngine on" in the CDSEO code. XCSEO then redirects to the php which CDSEO redirects to the CDSEO urls.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Here's a good Friday puzzle for you all. I am running 4.3 with onSale, Featured Product manager and CDSEO Pro. When you call an onSale product through Featured product manager with CDSEO turned on the product is onsale if the featured call in line is on the homepage. But is not on sale when the featured call in line is anywhere else on the site.

CDSEO is causing the error as everything is fine when you turn it off. The problem is that I can not work out where the error is as Featured product manager files are encrypted.

I have done Bill's onSale and Featured product manager fix. I think it has something to do with a url rewrite somewhere but unsure.

First one with the right answer gets a cake

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

My assumption is that there is a dependence on a $_GET or $smarty.get variable somewhere that is not working when those variables are removed from the url string, unfortunately I'm not sure which of the two mods would be relying on the variable.

I have this add on and may say it is very impressive to work with, although I'm just starting to really get into it. I have a general question (which is why I thought I would ask it here) is I have noticed the CDSEO url's that are generated are all lowercase.

Is there a specific reason for this?

Thanks

On apache servers urls are case sensitive, meaning that 'This-Url.html' is not the same as 'this-url.html' or 'this-Url.html'. When people type in the urls, they aren't likely to enter them in with alternating cases or to remember which elements are upper and which are lower. For this reason it is best to standardize them. Since upper case is a) shouting and b) unattractive, I opted for all lower case urls. You can customize your urls to have upper and/or lower case if you wish of course.

Many thanks for the response Jon,

Here a question I would appreciate your advice on. If your urls contain a brand which is all uppercase, would you reflect this or think it owould not make a significant difference?

Jon 11-05-2010 07:07 AM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

From an SEO perspective it won't make a difference. Personally I would reflect the uppercase in the on-page copy and perhaps the title and meta description, but not in the URL.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Hi Jon,

I have a question in regards to redirecting some old site urls to a new site via 301 redirects in the .htaccess file, Would CDSEO cause any issues with this?

as soon as I uncomment the redirection I get an server 500 error and just want to rule this out.

Thanks

Jon 11-12-2010 08:05 AM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

No it shouldn't. If your getting a 500 error then likely your code is not valid. It should be in the form:

Redirect 301 /old-url.html http://www.example.com/new-url.html

Hi,

When I read the description of CDSEO Pro, most of the features seem to be now available in X-cart 4.4.1. Would someone be able to spell out the specific features that are still valuable in CDSEO for 4.4.1 users?

Thanks!

Jon 11-23-2010 12:57 PM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

CDSEO has many benefits over clean-urls. Essentially, clean-urls took the idea of CDSEO and implemented it poorly. Without getting specific for competitive reasons, clean urls suffers from duplicate content issues, it blocks spidering of numerous key pages, and has various other defects. CDSEO also has a nice, clean, easy to use interface, import/export functionality, optional integrated blog software, an xml sitemap generator that doesn't generate pages it blocks in robots.txt and more.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Hi Jon,

Just in the process of configuring 4.4.1 (then waiting for 4.4.2 before going live)

We currently use XC SEO 1.4, which I gather is dead and buried???

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't clean urls in 4.4.1 require the html catalogue to be manually updated after every change?

Is CD SEO dynamic? ie if I change a page, its dynamically reflected in the CD SEO html page?

Cheers

Jon 12-13-2010 07:41 AM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

CDSEO is dynamic. Clean urls is also dynamic (x-cart attempted to duplicate CDSEO but programatically left out all the fine SEO details).

XC SEO is dead, buried, and x-cart users have had lots of problems with the developer, including the developer logging into their stores and adding links to his site.

Just wondering, I have few product combination that we're creating that has same title, though description, meta description, images all defers. Will Google/SEO penalise you for having same title for more than one product? Even though products are different and everything else is not that same?

Thank you in advance.
