If you are on CDSEO Basic then likely the issue is that "AcceptPathInfo" and/or "ForceType" is not supported. You can use this page to help generate a mod rewrite fix: http://www.x-cart-seo.com/cdseo-pro-for-x-cart/basic-rewrite.php

I really suggest you should include RSS feeds for CDSEO.

This would really help boost your product, particularly in the wake of better SEO features with newer versions of x-cart.

Would you be able to inform me of why I should purchase CDSEO Pro over using the standard SEO features in X-Cart. (DO you have an article that you could direct me to!?)

Jon,
I am in the process setting up 4.3 in a sub - directory of beta.mysite.com.
I have a licensed version of CDSEO Pro for mysite.com. Can I install CDSEO Pro in my beta setup until I switch it over to mysite.com? The reason I want to do this is so that as I install each product I can match the url from the active site. In this way when I switch everything will have correct urls when I take 4.3 live won't have to deal with hundreds of redirects.

Am I thining correctly with this since I am not planning on upgrading my 4.1.12 but rather building from scratch? There are many things that I am doing differently and it is easier to fix each item as I install them rather than trying to go through each item and make the changes.

A license for mysite.com will work on the beta.mysite.com subdomain without any license changes so you can install and move seamlessly. Keep in mind that x-cart 5 is due our in 2010.

Thanks for the info Jon. Yes I know v.5 is due in June 2010 so I figure that since it is so different than v.4 it will be Jan 2011 before it is safe for live use.8O 4.3 is not too different than 4.1.12 and gives me some of the features that I have been needing without dealing with several custom mods and AOM. Even with all the various upgrades in either of the versions, the most important to me is SEO. What CDSEO has done for me can not be replaced and I will stick with what I have before I loose the control that you have given me through your MOD. Oh and lets not forget the cron job site map feature. That alone saves me a ton of time and I no longer wake up in the middle of the night thinking "oh crud I spaced doing a site map this week. and submitting it."

Jon, here is a feature request to consider that would further differentiate CDSEO from Clean URLs. I'm curious if you or others have any thoughts.

Back on 4.0.x, I wrote my own little tweak to DSEFU to do images SEO. It would take stock X-Cart Image URLs, say "www.domain.com/00013.jpg" and map those to "www.domain.com/Product-Name-00013.jpg"

I was ranking pretty high on images.google.com and got some decent traffic from it. Once I installed a thumbnail mod on 4.1.x, I wasn't able to use this feature, and I lost all that traffic

It would be great if CDSEO could enable some kind of image SEO with configurable rules. Some folks might already have their images named with SEO in mind; but for me they're not and I know this would make a difference for Google Image Search traffic.

This evening I replicated a portion of the Category Structure within my store to be under the Clearance categories (Copy via MagneticOne Store Manager)

I then moved products under these copied categories, however now in the standard user interface I cannot see the products - I can see the categories though. Also when you go to Clearance/20% Off/Rubber Stamps it directs you to where I copied the orginal category structure from, and doesn't go to the copied categories under Clearance

When I look at everything in Admin, I can see the products under the categories. The categories and products are all active, I cleared the cache and forced new cache generation. Everything looks OK from within Admin.

Maybe this is a problem with CDSEO?

Thoughts? Comments?

CDSEO wouldn't prevent products from displaying, sorry I'm not sure off hand where the problem would lye.

I've just noticed that links to disabled products result in the following error:

Access denied !

You are not allowed to access that resource!

Error ID: 33

Within the CDSEO settings I have enabled the "Redirect disabled items to homepage when no custom disabled redirect specified:"

Any nominations for where I start looking for the source of the problem? - The only error handling in my .htaccess file is for error 401.

That error is the default x-cart message when a product is disabled. It's not triggered by an error message but rather by php code which redirects to this page. The CDSEO setting should be overriding this to perform the 301 redirect to home or you can specify a custom disabled url for the product in the cdseo admin.

Actually Jon it does work as you say. It transpires that the products that I'm having problems with are no longer listed in the Products Management list (I'm investigating whether they were intentionally deleted or not) but are still listed in the CDSEO product admin area, so they are being added to the sitemap.

I used CDSEO Data Import/Export to export the product data where I removed the missing products by hand and then imported back in to CDSEO. I searched for the products that I had removed the data for and expected not to find them ...but they were still there!

To summarise CDSEO still lists products that are no longer in the X-Cart database and I can't remove them using CDSEO Data Import/Export. Am I missing something here?

No, typically you want to serve your images from a file system and then set cache control headers via .htaccess with code such as:

Importing/Exporting has not been reported previously as an issue, thanks for bringing that other thread to my attention. The error message would indicate that the file is corrupting on transfer or opening, so the seperation of the fields is running together. Please provide the .csv for review and let me know what CDSEO version you are running.

Thanks for the quick reply. Version is 1.3.6.

I exported a CSV file first, made some changes, and then tried re-importing a single test row (options: import, local, products). It keeps giving me an error message saying the following:

"Updating ID->239 product . . . bla . . . bla . . . bla URL->bla . . . bla . . . bla
Error: Invalid CDSEO Type Specified"

My CSV (txt) file is very simple with following header rows:

cdseoReplaceID cdseoType cdseoTitle cdseoLinkTitle cdseoUrl cdseoKeyword cdseoDescription cdseoDisabledUrl
< one row of data . . . >

cdseoType is product

I must be missing something - but I've tried several different approaches . . . . have successfully imported/exported in x-cart quite a bit, but can't seem to get this to work. Appreciate your help.

I am new to x-cart and i would like to get a SEO addon for my site. After reviewing CDSEO website i notice most of the feature you stated are already in the version of x-cart i have. How will this program benefit my site with version 4.3.1? Can it edit the H1 and H2 heading on my pages? I notice H1 heading is on "Cart" (Shopping Cart) how is that doing me any good?

Maybe i need to hire qualiteam to do the work?
