I am afraid you are out of luck. The lack of responces by QT in here indicate that the new rules will apply for all licenses not only for the licenses purhcased after the rules change |
Re: X-Cart v4 licensing and it's reusing in new businesses
So abstaining from any comment is the way to approach this?
QT, I need to know what the answer is pertaining to licenses already purchased under the old terms and conditions. |

I agree with Steve.

Re: X-Cart v4 licensing and it's reusing in new businesses
You could count so easy how many posts QT replied inside this Forum in the last period. Lots for XCN, but only a few for real problems with have in XC4.
I don't like what I see these days, this big gap of information between Community and XC Creators. |
Re: X-Cart v4 licensing and it's reusing in new businesses
It's valid for all X-Cart licenses.
The initial X-Cart license means that a user is allowed to use license for one sigle e-commerce store. I am sorry that you red it as "I can close one store and open the new". It has been never allowed by X-Cart polices. |

ADDISON, I cannot agree with you. Me and Tony have been working on the forum and private messages last three days. We got a lot of feedback and Tony already wrote that we need to find the appropriate correction and will back in one-two weeks. We saw that community is not happy with our initial message and that's why we stop promote it and start internal discussing what is the best changes which we need to do. |
Re: X-Cart v4 licensing and it's reusing in new businesses
Generally speaking you don't agree me in the last period.
Ok, you replied many emails but what is happening with those about XC4? Personally I posted a few messages with issues, but nobody from your team made an effort to provide some thoughts. Instead of making stronger your flagship XC4, you are spending time to see what is wrong with XCN. Remember you told me in that thread "I am the only one who ...". Now I am not alone, you are with me, joining my thoughts :) |
Re: X-Cart v4 licensing and it's reusing in new businesses

Re: X-Cart v4 licensing and it's reusing in new businesses
Remember, in the US and EU, there is case law protecting the right of first sale.
QT's mistake was to not charge for upgrades all along. If they charged $29 to upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5, all of this would magically all go away. Considering Magento sold for $180 million, there is money to be made in the cart business... but I think the Magento founders had an actual business plan. |

I am not sure that is exactly like this. We were always told and was always understood that XC can be used with one database only. That's why there are 2 modules (not sure if they are still active) form 2 developers to allow XC to use one database with more then one domain and that was never a problem. Now it seems like this approach will be a license break... You need to understand that you can do this for newly purchased licenses but you cannot do this major change on existing licenses as they were purchased and in used based on their initial purchase agreement. With the same success tomorrow you can change the terms and write them to state - every license has to be renewed every 6 months at $200.... When I purchased my license there was nothing like this in it. There was no clause to say that I can use the license one time only with one domain and have to pay fee if I cahnge my store name or type of business.... I personally do not care about this fee just like I didn't care about the points when you took them out... I gave mine to another XC user anyway... but it is the principal. Actually in this case with the existing licenses I think QT is breaking the license agreement.... |
