Re: X-Cart 4.1.8 released

I had 14 files that came back as could not patch on the testing phase as well as the missing version file. What do I do at this point? Do I hand edit the files and when I run the test again it will flag it as already patched?

I had 12 files. 9 were .tpl files, 3 php.

SO -- UNCHECK the box and let xcart complete the upgrade. THEN manually compare (use a software tool, don't do it by eye) the files... most likely, the tpl files are just fine, and there's very little in the new version that will be of interest to you (if your store is modified).

The php files -- if you have mods, there's probably a good reason why your files don't upgrade. Use your judgment and update as needed. Another technique is to look in the "old" file and find which mods are involved, then restore to the new 4.1.8, then re-apply the mod ot the new file... 99.9% of the time this will work... unless you've been modding your files without comments. (that would be bad form).

OK I did not get the check box option until I put the version file back in place. We remove the version file as a security precaution. Once I did that everything went through fine other than a handfull of template files. Thanks for the help.

what I would do:

restore to 4.1.7 (or prior) and try it again. restore your site as well as database (although I doubt your datab ase was updated, due to the error message.

This time, UNCHECK the box "Testing patch applicability and generation list of files". -- this will update your database when completed, but you will have to manually patch the list of files it generates.

For the most part, these are inexperienced users having upgrade difficulty. These users do not appear to have the skills to do this without hand holding and in my opinion should have hired a pro. They managed to get through the upgrade by contributions from other users and hand holding.

So, what's wrong with 4.1.8?
