Having camel cased urls like default Clean Urls is not ideal. It is better to have CDSEO 301 redirect them. If you want to use the Clean Urls, please submit a support request and I will provide you a file you can use to migrate your Clean Urls to CDSEO. If you also provide FTP and X-Cart Admin access and requesst me to look at the the clean urls issue I can evaluate that for you too (there would only be a nominal charge if the KB entry works and was done incorrectly).

Hi Jon,

I am adding a subsection to my site - not using X-Cart pages -- using wordpress engine...
[domain.com/not-x-cart/]

There will be two sitemaps -- sitemap #1 created by CDSEO Pro, sitemap #2 created by wordpress -- I discovered the Sitemap index file xml option:

That is exactly what I want -- however, each time I use the CDSEO function, "generate=Generate+Site+Map" -- it also SUBMITS the sitemap to Google, Bing, etc...

Can I set CDSEO to only Generate the xcart SiteMap, and not "submit" it to the search engines?

Within CDSEO Pro under the modules tab, on the Sitemap generator page at the bottom there is the "sitemap settings" where you can select which search engines to ping. Simply uncheck all the search engines :-)

hi to all,

i have this problem:

if i edit a product name, the html link in category and manufacturer page are not updated, causing error 404, because it still points to the old name.

to resolve the issue, i must clone the product, edit the product name of the cloned product and then delete the old one, the thing is very boring and time consuming

who can be the responsible?
x-cart? (i have 4.5.5)
xtreme gear template? (i don't think)
CDSEO PRO?
speed booster?

i don't know who to ask, to check the problem.

any help is appreciated

Are you renaming the URL? What version of speed booster do you have? (It will say at the bottom of the admin screen)

i've disabled speed booster and all works great., i had this problem since a lot, but i ha ve a job to conduct, i take care of secondary issues in the spare time, speed booster version is 1.2.4

no i don't rename anything, i simply modify the product name, but the html url in category and manufacturer page doesn't update automatically, they obviously work until speed booster regenerates cache, then..... 404


now html url work great, but i have "empty cart" on paypal............. a life without a daily issue on x-cart is not a real life :-)

Not sure I follow you completely here. I would recommend re-running the cache after you modify several products/categories just in case. It could be possible the URL is modified and then the cache isn't updated yet.

According to our SEO guys the way xcart redirects from http to https is losing some of our pages "authority" etc so what are the prospects of CDSEO Pro handling redirects properly in the very near future?

In the meantime has anyone modified their site to redirect properly and would care to share? ...please!

i have 5 daily cronjobs since months.

when i edit a product name, the product page html url is updated ok, but thumbnails URL in category(es) page and in manufacturer page, maintain LIFETIME the old html url, so at the first flush cache, the old url become a 404

the only way to avoid the problem is to clone the product before edit and then delete the old one

we did not upgrade or chaege anything at all and
after having the cdseo on my site for more than 1 year today i got so many duplicate categories and products in my webmaster tools i am really confused we did not change anything or any setting in cdseo or x-cart at all , can you please help us and tell us what is going on , i was going to post this in xcart forum but i think that i will get faster respond by sending email to you i will paste the copy of those duplicate on the bottom .

i really like the module. our main site description is not used by google. how can i set another one with CDSEO? usually google takes the welcome text which is replaced by an image slider on my page :?

Just launched a 4.6.1 site, with CDSEO 1.9.6.

In Admin / CDSEO / Modules, there is no link under modules to create an xml sitemap. The 3 other cdseo modules are there, but not the sitemap link.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks to Jon from WebsiteCM (CDSEO) for fixing my problem. I guess security settings in my database were preventing the sitemap installer to work. Jon ran the patch from within phpMyAdmin and got it working for me.

Your main meta description will come from the X-Cart Admin -> General Settings -> SEO settings.

If Google isn't using the text entered it is likely because they think there is text that is more relevant to the person performing the search and will show that instead. You can find more information if you search Google for: Google not using meta description.

CDSEO is compatible with 4.6.x but you may need to be sure you are on the latest version which 1.9.6. You can upgrade and/or view the changelog at http://www.websitecm.com/x-cart-mods/cdseo-pro-x-cart-seo.html#tab8

Hi Jon,

I'm using CDSEO on an old x-cart version 4.08.

We've deleted some static pages/categories/etc and although it does redirect to "http://www.ourwebsite.com/error_message.php?page_not_found", the header response shows as "302 Moved Temporarily".

On our settings page, "Redirect disabled items to homepage when no custom disabled redirect specified" is Disabled.

We need the header response to be "404 Not Found".

Any suggestions?

If necessary, I'll pay to have this fixed.

If you disable them then you can use CDSEO to 301 redirect them.

If you delete them then X-Cart's default functionality is to 302 redirect them. You have to go into various files with edits to change this functionality. It might be better to just write 301 redirects into your .htaccess

Redirect 301 /old-page.html http://www.example.com/new-page/

That's the issue... I DO NOT want 301/302 redirects on deleted pages/categories/etc. I want them to show as 404 (Not Found).

Technically they are 404's and should return 404's. Unfortunately X-Cart does not do this.

The pages are served through pages.php, product.php, etc. which are files that exist so don't throw 404's by default. To change this requires modifying the core code to find where the redirect or message occurs and changing the code to output a 404 header with an accompanying message. I've done this for clients prior but don't have the code at hand and am current booked through till summer sorry!

Hi Jon,

I was able to resolve this issue with free help from Phil Jones (XcartMods).

Just in case you have a client who may need this in the future...
He set up a custom 404 handler PHP page, which returns the correct 404 header response. You do need to remove the CDSEO Url from the page (no need to delete the page itself - I just disabled it). Once you do, the header response shows as "404 Page Not Found".

As Mike said, I am wondering why you'd want to return a 404, ever?
If there is an outside page linking in, why not 301 to something relevant and potentially profitable.
Internal links are also easy to redirect to something that is useful to the visitor.

In my opinion, you never ever give up a link to a 404. My $0.02

We upgraded CDSEO Pro and xCMS. While Jon has added Goggle News Snippets to xCMS, I can't find how to create a Google News Site Map in CDSEO Pro.

The keyword meta tags are added to the pages. I'm currently working on updates to CDSEO and am looking at adding the news specific sitemap based on the xCMS news keyword field.

I am working on a new site design and want to upgrade from 4.6.1 to 4.6.3.

1) Will CDSEO and xCMS support 4.6.3?
2) Is there a way I can backup my CDSEO and xCMS data? I saw there is an export function for CDSEO (though very manual - no option to export all), but could not find anything for xCMS.
