Thank you for finding this :) Yes, we know about this issue. And it's already fixed.
Could you please download the module package http://www.x-cart.com/download.php?f-commerce-go and reinstall it? Or, if the current "f-Commerce Go" module version installed on your store is 1.1.1 (refer to the %xcart_root%/VERSION.FCOMMERCE_GO), then just update the "modules/fCommerce_Go/func.php" file from the package.

I'll download this now but I did only download the files today (as it is running 1.1.1) however I'll try and report back shortly

Thank you for a great module, and a great response time.

And the report is in, all runs smoothly now.

A big thank-you to you skot!

The thing is that we have uploaded the new version (it's still 1.1.1 though) about a half-hour ago with the one updated file "modules/fCommerce_Go/func.php".
And it seems you have downloaded and installed the previous version, which is 1.1.1 too, but contains error in the func.php file.

Sorry for a confusing :oops: and nice to hear that it is working correctly now!

No confusion, that's a great fast response :)

just a general question, does this module cause a significant increase on server load if at all? I want to keep everything running smoothly so if need be may increase the spec of the server slightly.

Thanks again.

The module uses the X-Cart core. For the Facebook page it is looking like a customer opened a regular storefront, like a common action with a common server load.
So if your web-store speed suits you, it is not necessary to increase the server spec. Just if you want it for another reason :)

I also agree!! Paid nearly One Hundred dollars for a program that is null and void less than a year later!! What a RIP!! THEN... I have to pay a monthly fee for it to do (basically) the same thing FBTab did for no monthly subscription price. Don't completely understand the HUGE extra expense.

I do have to agree with this point its a large expense $195 for 1 year or $105 6 months subscription, us small people can't afford this its way to costly, I fully appreciate people have to earn an income but i think if the cost was much lower more people would be happy to subscribe to this, the free version is ok and gets you started but is very limited...Shame the price is so costly..

Can you imagine ONLY having 100 subscribers to the Silver Plan at $195 a year? That is a heck of a lot of money for a Developer to make for an occasion change because FB has changed their encoding requirements. WOW!! I, for one, am NOT subscribing.

I was just wondering you are allowed to add your own banner title etc in Modules> fCommerce Go

Welcome text on home page tab
For general visitors

Ive put a banner there and welcome text but this is not showing up, is this just for silver subscribers or is it for the free version as well! if so its not showing up on face book.
I did request info through help desk as there was original problem they had to sort, but they havn't answered this question, if it is for free version as well then there is something wrong as my items show up on Facebook....can any advise please Thanks

This is supported by Silver version. Here is the comparison chart: http://www.x-cart.com/f-commerce-go.html

When we started working on first FacebookTab version the minimal price to add X-Cart to facebook into tab starts from $1000. And merchant had to be developer on facebook, created app and set up it. We give the ability to all X-Carters to sell in Facebook only for $95 and leave all jobs connected with app on our side.

Facebook changes every time and sometimes we had to rebuild the core of FBML engine. Your post has and the answer, and the question. Subscription allows us to guarantee that all changes which Facebook does will not effect the functionality of the service and moreover will be implemented and improved customer experience.

Also, as an owner of FacebookTab license you have 50% one-time discount for any Silver plan.

$195 * 100 = $19,500 in one year. It is $19,500/12 = $1625 per month. As head of the project I should say that this profit totally is not enough since we have also hosting costs and dev-team salary costs.

Re: f-Commerce Go has been released

Hi Maxim,

Following up on what I have read in this thread and also on this (unusually now 'closed'!) thread http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=62640&page=3
I wanted to raise one discussion point for QTs consideration.

I think the major issue for many people might be that X-Cart has always been a 1 off payment pricing structure (verse subscription pricing model) - the non-use of recurring subscriptions is what honestly attracts your customers to use X-Cart, over other solutions which are subscription based.

Really the problem was that when QT first introduced this facebook mod, you never said that it would be different to the X-Cart model i.e. that it would be time limited and not upgraded free of charge as is needed (i.e. like the X-Cart model is and you have always done with modules in the past).

Of course it is fine if you decide to choose to use a subscription pricing model for a module (3rd party suppliers do this too), BUT, do it from the start / introduction of a module, don't suddenly change the pricing / updates model on people after they have purchased a product.

I just wanted to mention this, so that you are aware of what your customers are annoyed by and many will not accept if it happens to core modules (and of course what I would have been annoyed by, if we had purchased the initial facebook module ourselves).

I hope senior management take these comments to heart and understand what motivates their customer base.

Cheers - Asiaplay

PS: From our own standpoint (so you are aware that the subscription model will not work for all of your customers and consider carefully where to use it) - we honestly will never use a subscription pricing model (unless it is very, very cheap), as in the mid-term (maybe even short term) investing in a custom module with developers which we have used in the past, would work out a more economical option (and additionally we just don't want license look-ups that can slow page speed or create privacy & other issues, whenever that is done) - so please keep this in mind when you choose to anything, but the one-off payment with free updates pricing model (thanks!).

Pricing issues and the API debacle aside, is anyone using the silver version who can give a review of the workability of this product?

Also, I'd like to see a Facebook page with the Silver version in operation if anyone cares to link to one in operation.

Thanks,

Wayne

Re: f-Commerce Go has been released

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on this. I have a few questions that hopefully Qualiteam or someone else can answer.

1. I assume F-commerces forwards to the actual store checkout. So does that mean customers can use coupon codes?

2. Will F-commerce help SEO? Basically would the F-commerce store be considered a separate product entry for Google?

3. Our company is catagorized as a "product/service" on Facebook. Can the store be inserted on our group or do we need to set up a personal page.

Thanks

Yes, the checkout process located on the actual store side. So your customers can use the coupon codes. Here is a usecase, the webstore (this store is the Silver fCommerce Go) https://www.facebook.com/CampusCookies/app_163934933657167 gives the special coupon code for people who liked the page.

Actually, the Facebook pages tabs content are not scraping by the search engines. Partially, it happens because the tab content itself is the iFrame.
However, the fCommerce Silver provides the social sharing features as "Like", "Send" and "Comment". So it's balancing the SEO lack in some way.

The store can only be added to the pages (created from here https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php). No personal profiles or groups. This is the Facebook-side limitation.

In my admin panel "create a page" is there. Will that link to our "product service" group or does it create a total separate facebook group? I don't want to lose all the likes (customers) that I have built up.

If you are already have the page in Facebook, the fCommerce can be added to it. So it's not necessary to create a new one and lose your likes.

When the module is enabled, I get a lot of this php warnings every day.

[22-Jun-2012 00:02:43] Warning: include(/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx/xxx/var/templates_c/%%5F^5F0^5F07AE8B%%customer_options.tpl.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /xxx/xxxxx/xxxx/xxx/Smarty-2.6.19/Smarty.class.php on line 1869

When module is disabled there are no errors. Upgrading to the latest f-commerce version did not fix these warnings.

These warnings started immediatelly after switching to the f-commerce module (previously used the facebook tab with no problems).

We know about this bug and it was fixed in the last version of module.

Please be sure that your are using the latest module version. For now it is the "version 1.2.3, $Revision: 61 $". It can be obtained from the "VERSION.FCOMMERCE_GO" from the root x-cart directory.

If the version is earlier, please download and reinstall the module.

I've investigated it and found a solution. Here is the corrected 'Attachment 3116' file.
Upload it to the root of your x-cart, then clear the templates cache and try the module once again.

UPD: One more thing missed. Open the '$xcart_root$/modules/fCommerce_Go/config.php' file, then scroll to the very down and delete last three lines of code:
PHP Code:

if (func_fb_shop_constant('AREA_TYPE') != 'A' && !func_fb_shop_constant('FB_TAB_START')) {

func_fb_clear_compiled_tpl('modules/Product_Options/check_options.tpl');

Please, let us know on the results if possible.

I can access the demo fcommerce Facebook store just fine on Safari but I can't access it using the ipad Facebook app because I have no access to timelines.

Have you heard when Facebook will have support for ipad timelines? Is the iphone app the same?

This will definitely affect my decision on upgrading to Silver. Do you have a way around this?

Thanks!

We are glad to announce final release of our new “fCommerce Go” module that lets you add X-Cart shopping cart to your business or community Facebook page and use it as a sales channel for your main store.

Some time ago we discontinued FacebookTab module that did the same trick using “FBML technology”. Reason: Facebook quit supporting “FBML technology” since January 01st 2012 and is going to remove it completely in June 2012 (see https://developers.facebook.com/roadmap/).

That’s why we invested in development of “fCommerce Go” module. The new module inherits all the features of the discontinued “FacebookTab” module, adds new ones and uses completely different technology to integrate with Facebook.

fCommerce Go is a subscription service unlike FacebookTab. There are two “fCommerce-Go” plans:
  • Basic plan: it is free and allows to show featured products from the root category on your Facebook fan-page.
  • Silver plan: costs a fee and has many nice features, like “Full store stock”, “Categories browsing and products listing in categories”, ”Products search feature”, and much more.

We have to charge subscription fee for fCommerce Go due to the following reasons:
  • Facebook changes its API regularly and we have to correct our integration module every time in order to keep Facebook integration working as advertised.
  • With new updates of Facebook API new bugs are “released” as well (Facebook beta-tests updates on real users) and we have to deal with them as well.

Those who purchased a FacebookTab module license before Jan 1st 2012 will get one-time 50% discount for the “Sliver” plan. FacebookTab licenses purchased after the January 01 2012 will be exchanged to 6 month free “Silver” fCommerce Go subscription.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions.

I have a few products that are calling for pricing.. In the categories pages it shows call for pricing however when you click on the product it allows you to enter a price for the product and even goto check out for the product.. How to fix this?

Call for pricing, this must be a customization you made previously? So it's not a bug?

Are you really using 4.1.12 with f-commerce go?

No reason in particular, just surprised. I guess it is only 4 1/2 years old, seems like ages ago to a youngster like me! :-)

My question is whether the Call for pricing is a previous customization or not. It would also be helpful if you could describe in greater detail the problem. I assume call for pricing is what your onsite store pages say on certain products, both on category page and product page. On your facebook store however, it does not. Is this correct?

In that case I would assume that different templates drive these sections. That is why I asked if the current store had customization, if so then this customization needs to be applied to your facebook templates as well. If it is a built in feature of your version of X-cart, "Call for Pricing", then it is a bug that needs to be addressed. The php or templates that drive the facebook store need to consider this setting.

It also sounds like your store was customized just at the template level to enable the call for pricing feature, perhaps it should also be blocked via PHP to prevent items with this designation to be added to the cart.

Hello Readerm,

Please, open the %xcart_root%/modules/fCommerce_Go/third_parties.php file and replace the code there with this:

PHP Code:

// On Sale :: www.alteredcart.com //
$_onsale_file $xcart_dir "/modules/alteredCart_On_Sale/onsale_sessions.php";

if (
$active_modules['alteredCart_On_Sale'] && file_exists($_onsale_file)) {
    require
$_onsale_file;
}
// End On Sale //

I think this should help.
