I look at it differently...

I don't have Phil's Smart Template or Mega Menu as I'm still on 4.1.11 and in the process of upgrading to 4.4.4.

I wonder how many sales I've lost because my site looks outdated...

Horizontal menus make it easier for your customers to find the items they're looking for which means more sales.

I don't know if the Mega Menu is a standard or optional ($$) feature for Ability. If it's an option I don't care. I will buy it too because because it will generate more sales and will give my site a more professional appearance than my competition.

I'm not too upset. With the Christmas season the new and updated look paid for itself many times over. I moved from 4.0.19 to version 4.4.4 so I'm very happy. Just hate buying something again so quickly but that's the way I goes. Kinda like cell phones. Get the best one and a week later one better gets released.

Just adding some themes and finalising documentation, then it's ready for sale.

I'll lower the price to $149 for a short period, can't say fairer than that :)

It has many of our popular mods built-in, such as the mega dropdown, RSS feeds etc. so it's pretty good value and sure to save people a lot of time and effort.

It's not actually an update to the Smart Template, it's a new template that's been designed from scratch.

I'm in the process of changing hosts so decided to upgrade to 4.4.4 from 4.4.1. Tried the upgrade process but my site has been edited so much by the previous admin that I decided to just export all the products, categories and pics and re-import them.

Seems to have worked so far but it looks like i need to use the custom .htaccess file from the old site as a lot of the categories seem to be empty but when I look at the old site the categories point to other categories using 301 redirects in the .htaccess file which is a bit of a pain but i guess its the only way I can get it working without re-writing all the categories again. I'll get round to that in the new year.

I really can't wait to get this new layout, as has been said i'm sure this will increase my ROI on my site as it gives it a total face lift and some fab features that I have been missing out on.

Thanks for lowering the price Phil, I thought it was very reasonable at the old price but wont complain about a discount :)

Phil, looking at the demo. I can only say well Fuc*ing done mate.

Not only does it look professional, it's smooth. Very smooth. (And that's in IE)!

It feels like a site I would trust, it's clean and easy to use. Not only that the add ons and such are just pure awesome.

Once I get a new one page checkout sorted I'll be such a happy guy. It's everything I've wanted, and then some.

I did however find a slight issue on the contact us page. (Submit button is cropped)

Can't wait to purchase and see what I can do with it seriously! 8O

Does is require to change any php file of Ability template ?

If is Yes then I will have to buy Developer license even though I will use this template on single domain ?

or on request you will provide 1-2 php source file (non encoded) ?

Not really, as most of the template settings can be changed in admin, so you'd be ok with a single domain license and you can also get 25% off.

Hope you had a great new year.

I have purchased the dev licence for our site. Just waiting on the email with the install details.

I have installed 4.4.4 on our new hosting package so will be transferring the domain name over to this new server once I have the ability template up and running. Will this be ok as the new server doesn't actually have a domain pointing to it at the moment, I just have a vhost setup and have changed my hosts file to configure the new site.

Phil, could you have a look at the 3 column fixed width, there seems a couple of glitches on ours.

The homepage scroller text area extends past the image area.

On checkout the order summary goes off the right margin with the OPC.

One other minor issue is the image size on the products details page has to be very small otherwise it covers the info panel sku, qty in stock etc.

I've been having some issues with the categories when set as 2 level sliding menu. They just don't seem to work correctly, this may be due to the terrible categories on the site which I need to work on but I love this menu and would like to get it to work.

If I expand them all it looks fine or if I press CTR+- to zoom out from 100% it looks fine.

The development sites i.p is : 46.252.192.97 not sure if you will be able to access it so that's why I added the screen shot.

I access it by adding this to my hosts file : 46.252.192.97 www.robertsonpackaging.com

The reason for this is that the main site with that domain is still live.

David-Allen, the sliding menu works well when each category has at least one sub-category, but I'll see if I can change that...

There might be a chrome bug when using the show/hide all links, I'll try and fix that, but in the meantime, just disable the show/hide menu option in the Ability settings.

Thanks Phil, if its too much to do don't worry about it i'll just use one of the other options.

I have so much to do on this site to be honest, the last person that administered the site made so many changes to the site such as removing the need for the short description so I need to add in a short description for every product and also sort out the look of the descriptions as they look terrible.

Looks like this may take a little longer than I first thought but it will be well worth it in the end.

candc, IMHO I wouldn't use a fixed 3 column width, it looks too crammed in, try a different layout.

Or extend the fixed width.

Yes it is a little crammed, but the 3 column fluid just looks odd.

I am not sure why, maybe it is the width of the sidebars, fixed width was an option we wanted to look at. we have a play with the other layout options.

This is a CSS template, anything is adjustable.

The template uses the easy 960.gs grid system (fluid) with a 16 column base

If you want a fixed 3 column layout and you want to widen the left/right columns a little...

hay Phil,

The only real issue I am having now is that all my thumbnails are too small to go with the theme. I went in to a couple of products and hit generate thumbnail and it changed it to the size to match your theme. Is there any way of doing this automatically for all products as I really don't want to do this with over 1000 products?

David, you should be able to adjust the thumbnail sizes in general settings > appearance, then regenerate the thumbnail cache.

If you want to hard-code thumbnail sizes, while not advisable, you can do it like this...

skin/ability/customer/main/products_switchers.tpl (assuming you're using the grid/row switchers)

{include file="product_thumbnail.tpl" productid=$product.productid image_x=$product.tmbn_x image_y=$product.tmbn_y product=$product.product tmbn_url=$product.tmbn_url}

Thanks phil,

I regenerated the image cache (is that what you ment?) but it doesn't change the thumbnail sizes on the products.

If I go in to the product manually and click on generate thumbnail it changes it to the larger size. (see images below)

I just want to say, I love the Ability Template. What I would like to do is have two (or more) rows for the featured/bestsellers/new products carousel instead of just one row.

Hi Brian, if you uncheck this option...

"Display above products and promos in compact tabs"

Then it will take the featured/new/random products etc out of the tabs.

Thanks for the reply. I like the tabbed feature. What I would like to do is have in the carousel (in the tabbed format) 2-3 rows of featured products under the featured tab, 2-3 rows of bestsellers under the bestsellers tabs, etc.

Possible, but not without a fair bit of customisation, splitting up the carousels etc.

It would be simpler to use the grid/row switchers on the homepage instead.
