The permissions passed the installation test . All files are owned by the web server process. I also verified the skin files are installed. I'll dig around and report the solution if I can fix it. However, it's not easy without any logs.

What version of php does 4.4.0 require?

Will it run on 5.2.3 ... or does it require 5.3?

Just to confirm - 4.4.0 is PCI-DSS compliant?

(I've looked all over and can't find any definitive answer!)

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I don't know where to put 4.4 specific issues. Is anyone else experiencing this? My shipping estimator is not working properly in One Page Checkout. I see that in the demo the shipping estimator begins by saying:

"Estimate shipping cost
Shipping address is not defined yet."

However, mine says this from the start:

"Destination: Change
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with a shipping cost estimate for this order."

Even though the customer has not had a chance to input anything. Then, on the checkout page, there is no zipcode box shown even though I have zipcode as a requirement for checking out. It's driving me mad! If I copy over my tpl with a factory default one might it help? Or does anyone know the reason? Maybe I need to change something in the admin?

Thanks!

EDIT: The email div had a white background which was covering the zipcode box. That mystery is solved! Still don't know how to get the shipping estimator to say the proper thing, though.

Why is 4.4.0 released as the latest version of x-cart if it is up to the community to fully test it...should QT have already tested all of the issues everyone is having?

balinor 08-24-2010 10:37 AM

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

It went through a full beta process, but that doesn't mean there still won't be bugs.

gb2world 08-24-2010 12:25 PM

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I agree with dmr8448's sentiment. The .0 release of X-CART versions has rarely been any thing more than a continuation of beta testing - with inadvertent testing by newbies who do not heed the warnings of people experienced with X-CART release methods to avoid it, unless they are prepared to help QT wring out the bugs. (The warnings to not use 4.4.0 on a live shop are not from QT - they are from experienced members of this community.)

QT is getting better with releases, and the publishing of the bug list is also encouraging.

As it stands now - QT has to release something as a .0 to get the testing they need for a clean release. In reality 4.4.0 is more properly called a release candidate, with 4.1 probably being the manufacturing release, and people should treat it as such, even though not official.

I continue to recommend that QT try and offer real incentives to people to do testing of their alpha/beta/release candidates so they can have true bug-free .0 releases - see this as one possible suggestion for next time. QT have demonstrated these major releases can't be adequately tested in house - they need this community and if they offer even modest rewards for participating in test, it might go far to achieving a clean release more quickly. And, it would avoid confusion and bad feelings of people who think they have a production release in 4.4.0.

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

gb2world, your "posssible solution" with the point system is an awesome idea! QT should also open the bugtracker a bit more and post some of their fixes for issues so that others who do post bugs can see the actual fixes (files or diffs)

gb2world 08-24-2010 04:13 PM

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

Yes - QT's transparency with the bugtracker is encouraging - posting fixes quickly would be the next step. But posting the fixes would be related to the "beta" and "release candidate" phases - so not intended for the squeamish or production. People could make decisions about keeping up based upon their skill level and requirements.

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I agree, but security issues should not be posted in a publicly accessible place, only by directly communicating to xcart.

Hey everyone... so were building a store, starting today actually... converting from Miva over to XCart. We have 4.3.2 installed should we install 4.4.0 now or wait...?

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

If you plan to launch soon, I'd stick with 4.3.2...

I think 4.4.1 will be out before too long. I would develop a new site in 4.4 and upgrade it to 4.4.1 when it's available. The timing should work unless you need to launch before then.

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

The last I heard 4.4.1 not due out till end of September, I'm hoping it's much sooner than that or at the very least offer all bug fixes so far as patches.

Lets not rush the team. They rushed 4.4.0 based on their promise in the road map and users pushing them here in the forum. Better get 4.4.1 bug free at the end of Sept then have it a week or 2 earlier with bugs

stevekem 08-27-2010 07:45 PM

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I'm not rushing. I do hope they create some sort of patch download area that updates with new patches as bugs are found. Then I won't have to email them every time to request a patch for new bugs as their discovered. They said they are considering this, so hopefully something happens.

I am curious though... Is there anyone on here that actually got 4.4.0 working with x-payments and is live without checkout problems. There are sooo many more bugs with this version than I would have ever imagined.

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I'd really like to begin using this new release. I've set it up on a test box and it looks very impressive. If it's possible for QT to give some kind of an estimate or timeline for the database update and patch, that would be greatly appreciated.

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

According to the 3rd post which was on Aug 9, about ten days they were saying. We're only 11 days past the expected date. Give a couple more weeks and we should have an announcement that it will be coming soon. :)

SoapLady 09-06-2010 09:51 AM

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I asked support about it - last message from them was on Sept 2nd and they said:

"There has been a serious issue found in upgrade package, it is being fixed at the moment, that is why their release has been postponed. We hope packages will be available next week."

So HOPEFULLY in a few days we'll have the database upgraders.

SoapLady 09-06-2010 09:53 AM

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I just checked - the db upgraders are now available in the file area for 4.1.12, 4.2.3 and 4.3.2 directly to 4.4.0.

That's awesome, but is the current 4.4.0 stable enough to upgrade to?

No, not for live store too many bugs. 4.4.1 will be released on 09/25, I would wait for that.

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

Does anyone else have these two issues?

1) Bonus points do not get credited to a users account.

2) Addresses in the address book cannot be configured as Billing or Shipping. When you create an address, no matter what it is setup as, it shows up as both billing and shipping address.

On a side note, with the ajax one page setup, there is no easy way to specify that a new shipping address needs to be used. The "Ship to different address" needs to be enabled.

This issue will be fixed in X-Cart 4.4.1:

It appears this issue has been already fixed, the corresponding bug-fix will be included into X-Cart 4.4.1:

Thts what most are claiming. I for one have been waiting a LONG time to redo our site and was very eager to redo my site with 4.4 but was strongly recommended to wait till 4.4.1

Re: X-Cart 4.4.0 released

I've been using X-cart since version 3.0.X or something like that. One thing I've learned is that unless or until the forum regulars and experienced users deem a given release stable, I won't use it. And this usually isn't announced until after a given release has been used, in production, for several months, and not simply tested.
