Mods/Skins compatibility can be defined after we release v4.4 for beta-testing. Once we release v4.4 for beta-testing we'll post an announcement here and send a newsletter (see Ene's reply above).

Am I correct to assume that there wont be an upgrade pack from 4.4 to 5.0 ? Being that the 2 platforms will be too different? What about the database?

Yes, that's true. There will be no upgrade pack from 4.* to 5.0.

All third party add-ons will also be incompatible with version 5.0.

One more thing that is very important is the knowledge accumulated by X-Cart users/developers. This knowledge is very important consideration for us. If you know how X-Cart v4 works, it will be easier to build a store on v4.

Keeping in mind the amount of changes between v4.* and v5.*, we believe that some of the clients will decide to stick with X-Cart v4.*

That's we we decided to release X-Cart v4.4, bringing some of the upcoming improvements to v4 branch, closer to the existing users.

Database upgrade from v4 to v5 will be available. It may be released with some delay, though.

PS: We will soon release an early alpha of the platform that will grow to become X-Cart v5. As of today, it still has lot less features than X-Cart v4. The good thing about that platform is that it has some major technical improvements that will make upgrades easier, provide a better CMS functionality and one more thing, to be announced later :)

Yep, that's true. However, I would like to make an emphasis on the following:

X-Cart v4.4 is the last planned version of 4.x branch *as of now*. However, we keep the right to release further improved versions of v4, based on complexity of improvements and customer demand.

Just wondering - will there be a direct upgrade from Xcart Pro 4.2.2 to Xcart Pro 4.4 (and later in the year to Xcart Pro v5), or do I need to upgrade to a different version first, before being able to upgrade to either version 4.4 or version 5?

Upgrade process is not changed. v4.4 is not a new engine and it is still from v4.x branch. v4.4 is going to be the latest X-Cart v4.x with more features required by current e-commerce environment.

I'll add this:
If there will be reasons for releasing 4.5 we will release v4.5
If there won't be such reasons we won't release v4.5

At the moment we do not see such reasons, but it doesn't mean they can't materialize in future.

Anyway, we will update our Roadmap once we decide to release 4.5

Current X-Cart versions can do that - save it as .CSV and import.
We are not going to remove this feature from future versions.

If so that would be awesome, I always wanted X-Configurator, but didn't want to pay the steep price.

All these modules are included in 4.3.2 for free so I wuold say they will be in 4.4 as well

Alright I'm a bit confused, I upgraded to 4.3.2 but don't see these modules. I am talking about the modules like X-Configurator that still shows up on x-cart for $110, this is now free???

I checked for this moules under files area in Helpdesk but they are not present, only the distribution kits can be seen in ther.

I understand this module has to be installed as a separate module but they are free.

Can someone tell me what is going on or I have to go to adifferent place in helpdesk?

Yes, v4.4 is going to have them included for free
v4.3.x does not having these modules included.

Please notice that v4.3.2 is just a **bug-fix** release of v4.3.x branch. It doesn't have new features.

when is this version (4.4) being released? i have projects waiting and lagging because the customer requested the features that come with this version, such as the the 1-page checkout. i would hate loosing my customer for lack of an exact date.

What is going to happen with 'one page checkout' when we have to migrate to x-payments? It seems like in this case, a new page will have to be loaded to enter the customer's payment information. Is that right or is there some way to keep the one page checkout function?

I'd like to know about this for the 4.4 version, and for the 2 add-ons that are available.

Upgrade packs will be provided for free for all existing X-Cart license owners. However, if you want someone to apply those packs such service will cost some $$. Exact quote depends on very many parameters and should contact developers directly.

I am not sure about mods from 3rd party developers so I'll address your question about v4.4 one page checkout - all customer payment details are to be entered in X-Payments checkout forms. That's the requirement.

You will be able to test it by coupling X-Cart v4.4 with X-Payments beta version (v4.4 beta should become available for downloading in File Area section of your HelpDesk account at https://secure.qtmsoft.com quite soon - wait for the announcement).
