When a url is modified, it writes the old url to a url history and when the old url is accessed it will automatically do a 301 redirect to the new url (unless you give the old url to a new product).

That or I kept associating it with the initial transfer.

not a problem, I was just hoping to be able to do it via meta tag to keep the robots.txt as clean as possible, lol.

I have a large robots file as it is, so was hoping to be able to do it other way, but it is fine.

whats a few more line in there right? lol

I have installed CDSEO PRO..Home page and product pages working fine..In cart page,When i click on continue shopping,it redirect to product.php page ..I got this error "The URL you requested has been blocked. URL = www.xxx.com/home.php?cat=287"..Please any body advice..

By default you should not see this error, it's possible that you have this file blocked outside of CDSEO. If you send us a support ticket I will have a look for you.

The nice thing about having it all in one place is that you won't have any conflicts between the two, or in the future forget that you input code into a .tpl and can't figure out why the page isn't being indexed. If you want to do it in your meta though, this code in skin1/meta.tpl should do the trick:

I would like to say a little bit here as well as a user of both Mods now.

The first mod i went for was CDSEO Pro but because i couldn't get into Admin locking up (we have been told to lock down our admin folder right) i had to upload the .htacces file all the time but i have been told it is fixed now?


It doesn't work with Fire tanks Feature product manager you will have to pay for a update to get the latest file fixed?

And i don't see they have mentioned that XCEO Pro does 301 redirects?
Might have for got to write it down?


And the most important thing is i see they missed is as well support?

The purpose of this thread was to bring the review to people's attention, and I have no desire to resume arguments that have already plagued too many threads on this forum.

To answer your specific comments, the admin folder issue is the result of a conflict between mod rewrite and cpanel's storing of .htpasswd files in a directory below root. I found it also a problem for online products such as wordpress and popular content management systems. While the issue was challenging an easy one line solution has been developed.

CDSEO and XCSEO work similarily in regard to feed manager and upgrading; you could either upgrade or use the default x-cart urls for feeds which would be 301 redirected.

I do see in the review that it mentions both modules do 301 redirects but can't comment on a lack of alternate criteria.

The reason I ask is we are getting ready to upgrade to CDSEO PRO and (correct me if I am wrong) I believe this will eliminate the need for BCSE's meta titles and meta descriptions mods, in which case would there be any issue related to the above thread?

This is probably a dumb question but how do you change meta description and meta keywords for the homepage? I see it's possible to change the title tag under settings...just not sure about the meta tags.

Home page uses the default meta tags which are configured outside of CDSEO in:
X-Cart Admin -> General Settings -> SEO Options

Does this program also allow you to have custom meta tags for the .php files? I need to have my news.php file and my home page to have different info plus I need to add some other embedded pages which I think will just make more duplicate meta's the way I have it right now. Thanks

Your home page can have a custom title tag and then use the default meta tags in the x-cart admin -> general settings -> seo options (every other page can be customized so this main page would essentially be customized).

Currently it does not provide such functionality for php pages such as news.php but does so for all static embedded pages.

I think i saw it but can not find it now.

I have an issue with duplicate descriptions on categories that have more then one page. Can you point me in the right direction on fixing this plz?

The page titles are the most important thing and they will pagination to be different when using CDSEO. Duplicate meta descriptions on sub-pages of a category are not an SEO concern as the category description pertains to all sub-pages, and are not addressed by CDSEO.

Looks like a tool I need. I have about 15000 products. Can I program this with a shell script or do we have to endure the web interface to define each product meta tags manually (15 thousand in all)?

On installation it will auto-populate categories and products wherever possible and you can then customize using an export to .csv / import.

I am also wondering, if we are using CDSEO right now with 4.1.11, and then make the switch to xcart 4.2 down the road, and continue to use CDSEO with that (assuming a 4.2 compliant version is available) would this help to minimize SEO problems as a result of the switch?

CDSEO is partially encrypted.

CDSEO out of the box is now compatible with 4.0/4.1/4.2 so migration between versions keeps the urls seamless. We are also adding many new seo features in the coming months.

Hi Jon. I want to use this software. I have 4.0.7 ver and using original php links to advertise in google msn yahoo etc. I am concern about those links after switching the site to CDSEO links. Also my store have some customizations. Could you let me know if there would be any problem using CDSEO for my store? I also send you PM. Ok - just so I understand:

1) If someone is on 4.1.xx and buys/applies CDSEO, and then moves up to xcart 4.2 six months from now, would they be able to apply the same CDSEO license directly to that 4.2 installation?

2) is there a provision that would allow the settings to be transferred as well?

4.0.7 is compatible. CDSEO will automatically 301 redirect all default php links to preserve the links and transfer SEO rank.

CDSEO integrates pretty seamlessly so its compatible with 99+% of all customizations. If you were to have any issues we would help you work through them.

1) Yes if you buy and apply CDSEO on 4.1 they can apply the same license to 4.2.

2) You simply migrate the wcm_cdseo* database tables and all settings are transferred.

Cool. Makes it a lot easier to stick with 4.1.11 for now knowing that CDSEO has a transition path for future migration to 4.2 that can keep the SEO fires burning. That's worth $200 all by itself IMO. :cool:
