thanks |

OK, I'm an idiot I guess. WHERE do we upload the "cat" and "prod" binary files? I have them named as I want them, and adjusted the 2 lines in the cdseo_config.php page. And the .htaccess file reflects the names as well.
I must have totally missed where these 2 files go, or it's not clearly described. And also, do I upload them to the host (UNIX) as binary? Lastly, do I need to do a CHMOD to a specific permission level? Thanks much! Brian |
Upload them to your root directory, which is the same directory as cart.php, home.php, etc.
They don't need permission changes. |

Hey - I sent you an e-mail (via your system) a couple of days ago - had a major crash (nothing but blank screens) after installing the package. Had to totally uninstall it to get my store back.... e-mail me - maybe I did something I wasn't supossed to? |
Jon, I emailed you a couple of days ago and created a ticket yesterday.
my email .....6@mail.ru ...just need some issues to be resolved and there is a possible bug in the mod |
^ I'll have a look.
|
Jon - thanks for getting the thing installed. I don't how it does it, but it works like magic. Even after changing a product URL - Google still finds the page just fine! Very cool!
|
There is a something new that I have not been able to figure out - it is actually related to my use of the SoftPlus gsitecrawler.
I usually run this about every two weeks. Last night I ran it before going to bed and when I got up this morning it was still running. It looks like it is getting caught is some kind of logic loop trying to deal with the new catagories. Instead of finding a specific product as in www.vacsew.com/xcart/sebox4extra.html, it finds www.vacsew.com/xcart/vacuums/sebo/vacuums/sebo/vacuums... on and on. So I will need to go and try to send it only to the catalog it looks like. |
^ Please send a support ticket with details to support@websitecm.com and we'll have a look.
|
I had the same problem. I left spiders to crawl over night. My server got overloaded becase of that.
Jon fixed it |

Hello Vacman, I have Jons mod and we are extremly happy with it along with the attention we have recieved from his team. All is working the way it should. Hey could you please tell me what the "SoftPlus gsitecrawler" is all about? Dont mean to hi-jack the thread so if you dont mind could you PM me with the details? Thanks, :D |
it's a sitemap generator especially for google sitemaps.
besides it it does a whole lot of things. http://johannesmueller.com/gs/ |

Jon - Now that you made that change - I will run the crawler again tonight and let everyone here know if that problem was related to the one you fixed for us this morning. To everyone else - Jon provides great service - the product looks wonderful as well! |
Ok - I tried to run my crawler again last night - same results. So I modified the crawler this morning to only look at htm, html extensions, and I am still getting wierd things:
http://www.vacsew.com/xcart/vacuum-cleaners/vacuum-cleaners/2-fuller-brush/vacuum-cleaners/vacuum-filters/ What is interesting is the strange fact that the above URL is actually legitimate. Even though there really is no such bizarre address. If you click on it, it will take you there. If you then click on the filters link at the top of the page, you will see the URL reduced to what is really is. You get the point. Somehow the mod is confusing the crawler and the crawler gets lost. it keep repeating catagory names. I am sure why or how, but anyways - that is what is happening. I will keep tweaking the crawler to see if I can eliminate it. I don't think that the mod itself has anything wrong with it, it is just a wierd side effect. |
OK - Time to complain a little bit.
I paid to have this mod installed. Now I am losing orders because the cart system will not function properly. 1. When my potential customer clicks on the "Add to Cart" button, they get a php error message. I can actually watch (via SnS) people leave my site at that point. 2. About 50% of my product images have dissapeared. 3. Any crawler get locked into an endless loop - search engines, sitemap generators, etc. 4. The kicker. I have left now 4 e-mails over the last 48 hours, and only got a response on the first one... "We are looking into this issue. We will be responding to your inquiry shortly." Keep in mind that the response I got was to address the original issue with my last post above.... I am frustrated and losing sales and now I can't get these guys to respond to me.... 5/31/06 7:22 PM - Update - I got an e-mail! :) Tomorrow looks to be a better day.... |
OK - The problem with the Add to Cart button and the images not displaying all had to do with my cart.php file getting corrupted. This had absolutely nothing to do with the CDSEO mod at all.
These guys have now made me a happy guy! However, the crawler issue still stands. Hopefully they will be able to track that little bug down. Will keep everyone posted. |
It would be nice to have froogle module updated with CDSEO.
Jon, how about opening a thread for users of your mods, so that they can share and maybe some issues can get public support. |

We'll be supporting CDSEO in out new www.firetanksoftware.com releases, one of which includes an advanced Froogle exporter amongst for x-cart. |
We will be updating the Froogle Module soon.
|
great!!!
keep me updated |
Bumping this thread - some unanswered questions here that could help newbies if solutions found... Please Update
- I have absolutely no issues with CDSEO links whatsoever, it is a fine mod which does what is intended - it launches you up the engines and gains visibility, click throughs and generates sales like no other mod of its kind. It's one of the must-haves on my list of must-haves: http://forum.x-cart.com/viewtopic.php?t=29641 |
well, there are some bugs in the mod and they keep popping up.
Jon, please respomd to me email, I can't import products with this mod, categories don't create. Also, how is the froogle addition going on? Thanks |
Quote:
hehe that's understandable ;) |
Bump...
Still have not been able to find a solution for the endless loop problem using any kind of sitemap generator or internal search engine software. |

The mod has now been made compatible with Froogle: http://www.websitecm.com/news/16/CD-SEO-Links-for-XCart-is-now-Froogle-compatible.html |
good work, man

I assume you mean adding the second bit if code after : $product['productid']; The way you describe it in the instructions makes it look like you are adding the second insert right into the middle of the previous coded instruction ... ."\t". Does that make sense? |
Ok - I had to tweak the code - the instruction say AFTER add: - but you actually want to REPLACE WITH:
Looks beautiful! Much more readable! |
agreed, the original code is not correct.
|
Very sorry, my caffiene intake was a little low last night :) The code has been updated.

Jon - question for you. If we can generate a Google Base compatable tab file - how hard would it be for you to modify to make it also able to export as an XML file for Google Site maps? Obviously we can spit the code out this way, so the endless looping issue I have been moaning about is not being effected here.... Even making it a seperate mod would be tollerable. |
Endless looping in my code was growing from printable links on every page.
A dumb removeing of printable from head.tpl (if I am not mistaken) would eliminate it. Jon gave me a fix for this, looping stopped but I can't access printable pages at all now;) Try GsiteCrawler for the sitemap generating you can easily avoid the looped urls by filtering results. This might serve as a temp fix of course. If looping occurs with sitemap generator it most probably causes looping of google crawler which I can guess is not good ;) |
Re: GET YOUR SITE OPTIMISED WITH CDSEO LINKS
Quote:
will do - it's converted a lot of our links but is generating some errors (ie: not actually creating the pages, etc.) |
Re: GET YOUR SITE OPTIMISED WITH CDSEO LINKS

Same here... it wants to work and no errors on install... but doesn't create the html or categories needed. |
Re: GET YOUR SITE OPTIMISED WITH CDSEO LINKS
^ Since this thread was started, CDSEO has been redone and the issues in this thread have long been resolved. There should be no issues installing on a stock x-cart, so any issues are likely an installation error or compatibility issue with another mod. If you submit a support ticket we will resolve it for you.

Re: GET YOUR SITE OPTIMISED WITH CDSEO LINKS
I'd like to give my share of thanks for a great product and service.
One thing I'm currently wondering is, with 4.1.3, the columns do not seem to be exported out by X-Cart or did I overlook something? There was a "product link" checkbox but I don't know what it's doing. There's no way to massively see and be able to edit each individually as of yet? |
CDSEO could cause problems with other mods or vice versa
Just a tip for those having other mods installed; a lot of them could cause compatibility problems with cdseo or should I say the other way around?
I have experienced several (little issues) due to this and until now they were all solved by Jon -for which I'm grateful- but you should be aware of the fact that this may give some headaches like I experienced after installing new mods or checking the functions of already installed mods. p.s. At this moment I have disabled cdseo to get all my mods installed and working after which I'll enable cdseo again and will have to test all things. |
