I'm having the exact same problem that TL408 is having. Mine hangs too. Even if I export the sample products and try to reimport the file unedited it still hangs.

As long as we're wishing for features, here's mine: How about FEDEX shipping that actually addresses residential, rural and extended area shipping, all standard and often-changed charges for Fedex? Put in fields in the shipping configuration under the fuel surcharge for:

- signature fee
- adult signature fee
- Residential fee:
- Rural fee-residential
- Rural fee-commercial
- Extended Area-commercial:
- Extended Area-residential:
- Extended Area-Alaska-commercial:
- Extended Area-Alaska-residential:
- Extended Area-Hawaii-commercial:
- Extended Area-Hawaii-residential:

that can be updated using the admin interface. The 'rural' and 'extended area' fees would be calculated by accessing lists of zip codes provided by FedEx, and we could add a field to the customer account for residential: yes/no.

Plus an updated interface that allows for the new rates to be uploaded, since the current one won't work with the new Fedex layout.

I spent every single support point I had being told 'we're sorry, but we won't change the Fedex module so that it accurately calculates postage, but you can have that custom programmed'. The site claims 'live shipping' for Fedex.

Right now, there is no way without re-writing the module to calculate:
1) Residential vs. commercial charges
2) Rural commercial and residential charges (though there is a 'what is rural?' comment in the code)
3) Extended area charges for continental US, Hawaii and Alaska.

My client called me last week to inform me that the 'live shipping' on X-cart for Fedex undercharged by $12.00 for a Hawaii shipment, despite my having configured my shipping zones according to recommendations by X-cart.

As it stands, if you ever ship outside city, commercial locations, you run a very real risk of inaccurate shipping. My client has elected to run all their charges manually, so they can log onto FedEx to check the shipping for accuracy before billing the customer. If they have to do that, why have a Fedex shipping module at all?

Because of this, I've moved on for my future e-commerce needs to another vendor that understands that accurate shipping rates are crucial to online business. A shame, because I otherwise very much like X-cart. Their programmers are friendly and easy to work with, and their support staff was very helpful whenever I asked (except for not being able to get me to an accurate FedEx module - and that isn't supports' fault, but a programmer oversight)

I'm hoping, though that this will be addressed in this next 4.x release......

Any luck on ironing out the import/export issue, Vladimir?

The dragging is really neat. Easy in and easy out just make sure you got the proper size shirt. But, it may be a bit too late to incorporate in 4.1.x

In any event the basket in constant view at the bottom is a very nice feature.

The import didn't work because of incorrect CSV file format. New format will be described in the manual, you can also export something to learn about it. We have added an additional warning for this issue.

Can you please email me the correct CSV file format for this new beta 2 version, so that I can use it as a template? I would have use the one I exported, but as mentioned above, the export function doesn't work either.

Here is another error.

In the "Export" scrren, when you click you "View last export LOG" it will generate the error below.

Is your log directory 777 permissions?

I didn't have any problem with viewing "View last import LOG". That works fine so I do not think it is permission base because they are using the same log directory.

I tried exporting again and it just hangs as usual. However, if I look under the "Export packs" area, I can see the CSV file that it exported.

I then decided to remove all the products from the catalog. After that, I tried to re-import them back in using the file I just exported. The syntax format should be correct, right? Because I just exported the CSV file. However, no luck either. :( After clicking the "Import" button, it gives the message below and just hang here with a blank screen.

Is their anyway to have the customer invoice itemized, showing separate prices for product options and separatly list and price any optional items added on.
As it is now everything is lumped together at one price. :roll:


:arrow: ALSO: Mastercard and Visa will not protect the merchant if the merchant ships a product to an address other that the billing address.........You WILL get charged back without recourse if ship your product to a different address. We do Not!

That is why we would like to see the "ship to a different address" option made optional in admin.

For the next beta version, I would like to see an option switch where you can disable the "SKU value must be unique" setting. So it would allow the same SKU value for different products/items?

On automotive application, my product/item name is the vehicle make/model/year. However, one specific part can fit on more than one vehicles. So there are items with different names (make/model/year) but actually the same exact part with the same SKU number. This is why I need the ability to assign the same SKU value to all of these items.

Additionally the issue mentioned above would also cause problems if you have products from different manufactures that happen to use the same SKU/Part numbers. This is especially true for products that only has 4 or 5 digits for SKU/Part number. And there are so many manufactures have part numbers with only 4 or 5 digits.

Please make sure the searches are NOT case sensitive - in 4.0.x, if my customer types in "aquarius", NONE of my 30 Aquarius products show search results!

Is there a target date for general release? I know that you don't want to promise a date that's not realistic, but we are currently revamping our website and need the variants with photos & wholesale prices before we can go live.

If you could give us at least an estimate, then we can fit it into our development timeline. Without that knowlege, our entire project is on hold.

Even when it is released you might not want to base your business on it right away as there are usually a few dot releases to get some final bugs out.

You are probably looking at 6+ months.

I would like to see a cancel button for the import feature. You have an option to continue when importing new products, but none if you just want to cancel the import.

A basic WYSIWYG feature for product description.
On the checkout page, there should be a checkbox for I have read and agreed to terms and conditions... that must be checked before the customer can place an order.
For some reasons, the admin login is not working for me. I have reinstalled x-cart, checked my permissions, nothing worked. I have it installed on a local server running Suse 10.0, Apache 2.0, MySQL 4.1, PHP 5. Thanks for any help.

Some Suggestions
 

I hope X-Cart Team will include some new features such as:

1. Adding multiple products to cart at the same time i.e. put a select box in front of each product in the store front so the customer can select many products and then click on "add all selected to cart"
2. Managing ad banners on the store front i.e. put an option for the admin to manage banners which should be on the store front main page, specific categories, all categories, registration page, help page or checkout page. by this management the admin can put any banners on the top of page to deliver a specific message or out side advertising or advertisement for some of manufacturers.
3. Color coding for the order status either for the customer or the admin to reduce the time and mistakes to find specific orders.
4. Supporting right-to-left languages e.g Arabic , and this thing will not be easy as changing the direction of page from LTR to RTL because we should change images and arrows. so, i think this issue can be solved by adding an option beside active languages to lit the admin choose a separate skin for each active language. when the customer select to change from English to Arabic the style will changed according to the language he/she select.
5. Separate language files for the customer and admin. and this will make the translation easier and almost the store owner need to translate the storefront not the admin because the admin area contains many technical words an abbreviation which cannot be translated some times. this thing will give a good control option for admin and will motivate your customers to translate the x-cart storefront. i've tried to translate x-cart but i can not because i found +3000 line which should take a month to be translated.

Thats all, and i would like to see what do think . :)

I am receiving the following error while installing the beta version of X-cart. I receive this error after I select my store design/color.

Anyone have any ideals what/why and how to correct.

As many feel the search definitelty needs to be fixed (notice i say fixed, implying that it might as well be broken) becasuse of how bad it is.

The search should search and put the most relevant results first.

The search should definitely do the following:
1)
It should match parts of a phrase

So if a user types in "red hat"

or "red hat"


it will return results that have either "red" or "hat" +
"red" and "hat"

and lets say hat was not found than it should still return word that have "red"


It should also do partial word matching, so if a user misspelled what they are looking for they will still get what they want. So if it matches a certain amount or characters it will be returned.


Of course all this partial stuff needs to be considered when the results are returned by relevance.



So my suggestion if for x-cart to scrap there search function throw it in a fire and burn it and make a new one!!

Isn't putting quotes around a search standard practice to find all not partial matches?

I.E.
"red hat" - will find all that contain BOTH red and hat

red hat - will find all that contain red, hat and of course red and hat.

I just meant that if they searched for

red hat

without quotes

I'll put a second request in for a promise free release date.

Any idea when we might expect a stable release and also the mods?

Looking at the previous track record on the 4.0.x versions, it took X-cart approximately 8 months (12 releases) from the first 4.0.x Beta to a "stable release". Even then, the "stable release" still requires quite few changes/modifications. After that, it took them another 8 months to go from "stable release" (4.0.12) to get to where it is today, at 4.0.17.

The 4.1.0 Beta was release on 10/2005. So my bet is that you won't see the "stable release" until 06/2006 time frame, if everything is moving at the same pace as the previous version. Even then, I would personally wait another ~6 months for more updates before upggrading my live store.

But then again, that's just my personal opinions. Take it with a grain of salt. :)

Improvement Request for Checkout Process

To integrate the "Payment Method" page together with the "Payment" page. This would reduce another unnecessary page that the customer has to load. (This is definitely not rocket science at all. Just look at the checkout process being used by all the major players, such as Overstock.com, Amazon, Buy.com and so on.....)

I COUNLNT AGREE MORE!!!!! I mean who what person came up with the idea to have payment method be a seperate screen, its just foolish.

I think payment should be a separte step
and should not have address, and the entire shopping cart summary.

Then there should be a final review step which shows the
shopping cart summary the payment method, the address info.
and in the review step they could put submit order at the top of the page and at the bottom.

X-carts goal should be not to have stuff so far down on the page.
and combing the review with taking the payment will push stuff too far down the page. Which is one of the reason most site take the payment, then they just leave a last step to review everything. Which makes sense on a number of levels.

STEP 1: Address/ login here at the end will have a checkbox that say if shipping is the same as billing. If it is not then in the next step will be the field for shipping Adress.

STEP2: Shipping method


STEP 3: Payment
on the left they can have various payment method (with it defaulting to credit card)

then depending on what they choose will change the center area for the user to fill in and continue to the final step.

This step can include a small mini cart just the shipping subtotal and total
and a place to apply a gift certificate.


Step 4: Review

here will display the cart summary the shipping billing address, the payment method and the card number...
with links for the user to edit

Hi,

A great feature that I know is very possible as there's module add-ons for this but what really would be useful would be the ability on each product added to define a shipping charge per product within the standard x-cart installation.

I.e When adding a product there would be a Postage/Shipping option to specify a price and then a destination to assign the shipping to. This could work by using the same principles when adding product variants. So you could assign different shipping costs based on location using drop downs and input boxes.

Postage Cost: [ бё2.00 ] Destination [ United Kingdom ]
Postage Cost: [ бё4.00 ] Destination [ Europe ]
Postage Cost: [ бё6.00 ] Destination [ USA ]

This could be at the bottom of "Add a Product" page and would sit very nicely.

While many requests that people are asking for valid.


I just think that x-cart should definiely prioritize and dont even bother releasing something that doesnt have the

1) checkout

2) the search feature


done right. Both these essential features, as of right now i would rate close to the worst I have ever seen in a cart.

Then if they want to shoot for some other stuff,

integrate the shipping API and merchant API directly into x-cart back end.

Can't wait to test the merging utility.

How would that work when someone buys four different products? Would they be charge 4 times what they should actually pay for shipping.

IE item a, b, c and d each cost $2.50 to ship individually but when shipped in one box only cost $4.50 but the customer paid $10.00 under your method.

What about a delete button in the product detail page, and deleting the html catalog without regenerating a new one.

I agree with Lightspeed. What about adjusting the shipping rate based on the destinations? You can define a markup for each destination.
