Here's what happened

Well, my hosting company refused to turn off safemode, BUT, after a bit of b-tching, they fixed my site by

"change all the permissions on all directories to the same owner"

Hopefully, if any of your hosts refuse to turn off safemode, just ask them to do the above and pray that it works =) or switch to some of the excellent other hosting services offered by fellow X-Carters!

Web host recommendation

I highly recommend www.successfulhosting.com. Their tech support and uptime is far better than our previous/current hosting with Verio. Their servers are fast and set up perfectly for x-cart...no probs installing several versions of x-cart on our server. I've never had a web host I liked so much and I've dealt with way too many bad ones so I really appreciate people that know what they're doing. You usually end up speaking directly to the tech person who is working on any issue and it's a direct call that gets picked up on the 3rd ring. Great service, originally recommended to me by the X-Cart team.

japanchick, Did you fix it?

If your ftp dir structure has a conf dir, you can try the following:

create a file called vhost.conf
In this file enter the following:

Code:

<Directory /home/httpd/vhosts/bla bla, complete path>

php_admin_value safe_mode 0

</Directory>

This way, only safe mode is disabled for your domainname.
