That's not really a solution but a workaround, will use it though.
Now the same thing for Remember Anonymous Carts I guess, it has the very same issue and it's really annoying.

Hi Jon,
I put in a request for an ip address to be added to my license last night because I am switching hosts and need it to test my site on their servers before going live. Do you know how long that usually takes to be added?

Can anyone suggest a way of giving the manufacturers.php page a different meta description to that of the home page? Webmaster tools is complaining.

Hi All,

Not sure if this is an CDSEO issue or .htaccess issue. What's happening is that users are able to access our category pages (http://www.nerdseven.com/gadgets/ for example) by http but also https. When accessed by https the user gets a 404 error.

Does anyone have any idea how I might fix this?

Jon,
CDSEO not working properly with X-cart's Social Sharing module.
When some one click on Facebook LIKE or google +1 button it shows URL like http://www.mysite.com/product.php?productid=123 & not HTML product URL !

As Social Sharing is part of x-cart now you should make CDSEO compatible with it. Because of this issue all my products show 0 like & 0 share history all previous like history is gone ! :(

Also you should make CDSEO compatible to work with Advance Customer Review.

Waiting for your reply.

Hi Sandip,

I've been working really hard trying to manage existing load and put out fires before taking on new work, and things have just dragged on. I'm really sorry for leaving you hanging. You've always been great and I'm sorry to have done that to you. I would love to work on your project and help you out and hate to disappoint you by saying no but I have to in order to avoid disappointing you by saying yes and possibly under-delivering. I have however spoken to someone who is willing to work with you on the upgrade on my behalf with my oversight if needed. I will contact you in the support ticket with details and to arrange a phone call if you'd like.

Jon Peters

Currently you have to disable the manufacturers individually. I've identified this as a bug that will be corrected in a small CDSEO update coming next week. If you submit a ticket at http://www.websitecm.com/support/ I'll provide a free upgrade.

Your license would have been updated long by now, but wanted to respond in case anyone else was reading. If a request is submitted through the support desk it can take up to 4 days depending on volume. If you submit the change through the licensing center at http://www.websitecm.com/licenses.php it should be done within 1 business day (24 hours).

Did you get my request for FTP in the support ticket? I didn't ever receive a response. I'll be creating social sharing compatibility in a future release but for the time being will be happy to create the customization needed for you.

It depends what people are searching for.

In ranking, the best matches for a search of ⌠affordable cat bed■ would be as follows:
1.
Words together in the right order:
affordable cat bed
2.
All the words in the right order but not adjacent
affordable custom cat bed
3.
All the words in a different order
cat bed affordable
4.
Missing words but in the right order
cat bed
5.
Missing words and in the wrong order
bed for a cat

My friendly suggestion is that you should not be charge now for updates. Updated version should be available for free to all license holder.
This way people will happy invest in CDEOPRO as they will have assurity to get new features for CDSEOPRO.

What do you think ?

CDSEO has definitive advantages with several more in the works. If we didn't charge for upgrade development we wouldn't be able to afford to continue to support the module!

I am working my way through tickets. As we were not given any notice about 4.6 by Qualiteam, we are having to finish existing workload and try and fit 4.6 compatibility into an already packed development schedule, a such, modules are not yet 4.6 compatible and may be another couple weeks before they are all compatible. CDSEO and xCMS will be first priority.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

I need to find a way of changing the canonical link that CDSEO sets for the category and manufacturer pages > 1.

I'm following the guidance provided by Google with regard to a series of content http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/view-all-in-search-results.html For category and manufacturer pages I have a "view all" page (first_page_url/?show_all), which contains the super-set of content for the entire category, and the guidance states that each page > 1 should have a canonical pointing to the URL of the first page - currently cdseo sets the canonical to the pages own URL.

I don't wish to open a can of worms regarding the "correct" use of canonicals and whether I should be using rel="next/prev" although I know people have strong views on this, I am simply following the instructions of our SEO company who wish our pages > 1 to have a canonical pointing to the first page.

Any ideas on how to set the canonical for pages > 1 to be the URL of the first page? I had a go at making the changes in home.php but CDSEO Pro over-rides my code!!

Disabling the "Enable canonical tags" setting within CDSEO Pro stopped my new code from being over-ridden so I've now got the resultant behaviour I require :D/

Re: .xml sitemap question with CDSEO

I'm using CDSEO and see that I can create a gzip version of the .xml sitemap. My server has gzip enabled.
  1. Is there a benefit to using the sitemap.xml.gz version instead of just the regular sitemap.xml?
  2. If I enable the .gz version, should I then delete the regular sitemap.xml (and vice versa)? I noticed when I generated the .gz version, the regular sitemap contents were cleared. I then generated the regular version again and now have both files with sitemaps loaded.
I want to be clear on this. I'm concerned having an empty sitemap file, or having both the zipped and unzipped sitemaps may cause SEO problems?

3. If I end up using both, should I point to both in my robots file??

The benefit to the xml.gz is that the file size is smaller. This is helpful for sites with many urls or sites that have low bandwidth for their hosting. In general however it is not necessary.

You don't want to have both the xml and the sitemap.xml.gz populated. You should use one or the other, only add one to your robots.txt, and make sure that file is specified properly in your Google webmasters account.

Thanks Jon, very helpful.

Is it better to delete the file or open it and delete the content? (Generating the normal sitemap.xml again didn't take the content out of the .gz file.) It seems funny that it's okay to have an empty sitemap file, yet I dont want to mess things up for CDSEO.

Either way is fine as long as it isn't linked to. Personally I would delete the contents of it.

Hi, Jon,

I deleted 2 products a long time ago. Yet, they appear on the site map as sitecom/product.php?productid=19 and com/product.php?productid=20.

This creates errors as they are urls blocked by robot.txt file. Would you have a suggestion for getting rid of these 2 errors?

Thank you for your help and for a wonderful must have mod.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

If the product is deleted it wouldn't be in the database and couldn't be queried to be included. You might want to make sure it is actually deleted by trying to access the product in the x-cart admin section at http://www.example.com/admin/product_modify.php?productid=19 (replace example.com with your path to x-cart).

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

I'm confused about what the "Link Title" Field in CDSEO is, and concerned that using this field may be considered cloaking.

What exactly is a "title tag"? Is it the same as anchor text?

For example, if I have a link on my site: click here check our red widgets , I understand that "red widgets" would be the anchor text.

Does CDSEO change this anchor text to what is in the field 'Link Title' or is the title tag something totally different?

The link title is not the same as anchor text. The link title shows up in the code of the link and appears when you mouseover the link.

<a href="link.html" title="Link Title">Link Anchor</a>

As mentioned above the 4.5.x version should work on 4.6 without issue, but I will formally test and it will be 4.6 official by the end of July.

Thanks!

I'm guessing the consensus is to use them? Maybe short 'link titles' to not look spammy?

Thanks for help with all my questions. My site has suffered tremendously in Google ever since I switched from a Frontpage site to x-cart about 2 years ago - I'm trying to look at everything!
