Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
One more thing as I head back to 4.5.4, the pop-up cart function does not work in 4.5.4 when a customer adds to cart.
I will be sure to help everyone out and post the list of everything I am finding non-functioning as I migrate backwards. The path has become too steep and too narrow to continue down. ~Me |

Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
The upgrade process before 4.5.5 is ok. It is not easy but it was straight forward and if you follow a simple list of tasks to do and prepare it works.
Now 4.5.5 introduces new security features which make this "old" process not that easy if possible at all bacause of encrypted key that has to be in db and match. This key cannot be generated before db is patched and there is no way to generate it as a standalone process - unless a custom script is written, as one like this is not included. @Jeremy - yes before you chould just replace your encrypted password with a plain one directly in the db and login, then change your password so XC encrypts it. With 4.5.5 you cannot do this as the newly added key will not correspond to this new password. So your login will fail. And you cannot regenerate new key to go with your new password as there is no way to do this outside admin.... |

I totally agree. Once you understand the upgrade process and made your to-do list, the actual upgrade was usually smooth-enough. (however, there is a learning curve to know what you need to do) But it worked for the most part. This one takes the cake, because the upgrade is a moving target and the upgrade introduces many new so-called features and so-called enhancements and not as many bug fixes. Are you as tired about talking about this as I am? |
Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
I feel like talking to myself... Over 150 posts and no response from QT....
Yes I am tired of repeating the same thing again and again... I feel like QT will not do anything about this release. I wonder what will happen if the few people in here that test and report bugs because doing work on XC stop actually reporting these bugs to QT? So if I know about bugs, do my own bugtracker list and not share with QT or anyone else? Where will XC new release go? So to summarize I do not recommend to anyone to use it unless you are ready to start from scratch. It may work for new stores but definatelly it is not good for existing stores. It will do more damage than good As for beta/alpha versions release and bugs only versions - I don't see this happening either... Will it be helpful - no doubt about it. Is the current process helpful - no it is not. |
Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
Anyone still awake?
The masochist in me decided to install a fresh virgin 4.5.5, just because I can do that in a few seconds and I then can rip it to shreds. Have you noticed that: Books & Magazines skin is the ugly step-child that the X-Cart parents have rejected? B&M skin in 4.5.5 has introduced some fairly ugly formatting, and also seems to be entirely forgotten as compared to the new baby, Ideal Comfort. B&M was left out in the cold for the RGSR module. B&M is BUTT UGLY in 4.5.5 once you get to the cart and checkout in FLC. Ah -- FLC -- also the ugly duckling... but now with X-Payments iFrame support now in FLC, there is a reason to take another look. And although FLC/iFrame looks pretty nice in Ideal Comfort, it's a hot mess in B&M. I tried to play with some css on this, but it needs more than 3 minutes of editing. THAT'S the problem here. By releasing "4.5.5" and X-P 1.06 and ALL of the new so-called security features that break existing stores, and all of the new modules, and all of the new template includes --- without adequate testing --- Stop. Without adequate testing. ANY MORON, especially a professional X-Cart developer, (I said any moron, right?) can spot defective page layout in seconds, if they simply open the page, once. That didn't happen. SO what ELSE didn't get tested? Apparently lots... That's why some of us are pissy. I'm always like this, so this is my normal, "call them out it" tone. I want to believe an X-Cart engineer tested *some* of 4.5.5, maybe Ideal Comfort skin only, maybe with some modules -- but the testing matrix is slightly more complex. Free advice to X-Cart: DO NOT release anything that hasn't been through the testing matrix. Ever. "But that's hard work and will delay our ability to collect revenue." Yes. More Free advice to X-Cart: 1. Make bug-fix patches available as they exist. 2. NEVER, EVER make fundamental changes to the core until a major release 3. If a bundled module has bug-fixes, release it. 4. NEVER add new features to a release until the "major release" -- but go ahead an add a module, but no installer. Force a manual install. If it can't be installed in 10 minutes, it's too complicated as an add-on, and should wait for the major release. 5. CHARGE a reasonable fee for the major release. But if you are going to charge for the release, test the fuck out of it before you ship. I know, that's hard to do. That's why we are willing to pay you. |
Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
Oh gee! Found the problem with XC Mobile. I downloaded it hours before they updated it. When I go to my file system in my help desk, nothing there shows as to an update. So I assume all is well. They put up the 4.5.5 files BEFORE updating the mobile files for compatibility.
So... I am told in another thread that mobile downloaded AFTER my downloaded copy works with 4.5.5 Jerks. And yes, I am still awake. *passes a drink across the table* |
Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
Successfully migrated my 4.4.5 database to my 4.5.5 dev site using Steve's method in Post #137 (Thank you Steve!)
1. Did DB upgrade from 4.4.5 --> 4.5.0 2. Pointed new 4.5.0 to the upgraded database. 3. Used upgrade pack 4.5.0 --> 4.5.5 4. Pointed my 4.5.5 dev site to the new 4.5.5 database Had to change my dev site 4.5.5 config.php blowfish key to my 4.4.5 value in order to be able to login to my Admin and Customer accounts. Bug Somewhere In This Process - I use gram weights and the weight of 1 gram became 453.59237 4.4.5 General Settings Quote:

Re: X-Cart 4.5.5 released
Ok, so 4.5.5. I have to wait on the 3rd party mod developers to work out the issues with those. I have asked for details on the fix so that I can make sure I have that in my notes as well. They are all so awesome.
Mobile mod... I looked again at the time stamp on my file and the one in the help desk. With the time zone difference, it appears it was literally hours apart that I downloaded and they uploaded a new copy. Annoying but it works. Waiting on a few people to test it out on their smart phones for me. I don't own one (shocking, yes). Don't use the Books & Magazines template, period. It has way too many problems. I am going with the Ideal Comfort as a starting point and will rework from there. Might just do as I have in the past and start from scratch. Seems to be the safest, fastest, easiest way to strip out the excess crap slowing the site down and to get the look I want. Which is honestly not much. X-Payments seems to work fine but only time will tell and lots of orders if the iframe integration is as great as they say. But it seems OK. I will be making about 20 admin logins and putting them in safe places, just in case I lock myself out. Scary thought that one could totally loose their store with no way to get back in. I think there comes a point where you can get too much security going. This being one of those points. So... let's hope and pray that things settle out and start working. I am going on another fresh install. I downloaded fresh files from the help desk this morning of both XC and XC Mobile. XP is staying where it is at on 1.0.6 as I can see that it was updated before I downloaded and installed it. Will I upgrade the other 2 stores we own? That is a good question. I will decide that later. I need to get this baby live and running, soon! |
