As someone stated earlier, Jon does do excellent work when you can get hold of him. His response on tickets lately has been extremely slow if any at all which is very frustrating from a long time customer. I've had some CDSEO code showing up on every page of my site for some reason, and can't seem to get a response on it. Jon, would love to get a response on ticket FWE-715-96128 dealing with this as well as some prior tickets not replied to for months. Don't really like to post this kind of stuff on the forums, but it's been extremely tough getting responses on your mods purchased.
Thanks

Hi Ryan. I have been pulled out of the office in recent months to tend to pressing personal issues, but am proceeding with work as usual now.

Tickets are being responded to within our 3-business day time-frame. Your ticket was posted on the 16th and is queued for response today which I will be answering shortly.

The short answer to your question, is that the code on the top of your page is not CDSEO related and is likely an error made by somebody working on your site who is echoing code intentionally. I will post more details in your ticket.

How would you feel if CDSEO translated select characters in the English alphabet to some other 'almost identical' character? Probably not too happy. Why should non-English users expect anything less?

There exists a standard for this, supported by all current browsers and web-servers:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html40/appendix/notes.html#non-ascii-chars
I gave an example of an URL encoded in this way in my posting in this thread a few weeks ago.

This standard is what I expect CDSEO to support.

Cheers, Robert.

Hi Robert,

I appreciate your insight and assure you my views are not simply ethnocentric.

The creation of truly international urls is a large scale change to CDSEO particularly since it has to integrate with X-Cart without introducing problems. I am evaluating and testing requirements for this however but it wouldn't be available until the next major release of CDSEO as there would be much change and testing required.

Hi Jon,

Does your last vesrion of CDSEO allow to include categories in the product URLs? Some SEO men argue that rankings would be better with categories included.

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

It doesn't, though it is on our road map. I do have a free addon for this purpose I can provide which installs as a CDSEO module. Just request through https://www.websitecm.com/support/

Don't worry Jon will sort that out :) I did the same thing a while back. :D

I agree with the response though, I'm waiting for some modules domain to change over, I think he's very busy or his support system isn't working properly yet, don't worry though he's a good guy. :D

Anyways, Jon if you're reading I have a question, I've just bought the Google rich snippets mod but not sure if it works with CDSEO yet can you confirm?

Hello Jon,

Please let me know if category description in CDSEO overwrite descriptions in the X-cart themselves. We have a VERY weird case: our hired SEO-man modified a category description inside X-cart and also put there a unique nice article. Initially, the listing went up from 35 to 24th position, but then within 2 weeks it was dropped from Google altogether.

I wonder if there may be some kind of a conflict between X-cart and CDSEO's description which Google sensed and penalized us.

You should know that Meta Descriptions and Meta tags play no part in Googles algorithm, Google will show whatever description they seem relevant to the user.

Just creating content doesn't get you ranked on Google for keywords, get authority & quality backlinks to the category. Google may be doing 'Google dance' but I very much doubt it unless you've built links to the category.

Either way you were ranked 24th and I can only assume you got no visitors off that. As you really need to be top 5 on serps anyways.

I just hope you're not hiring a fake 'SEO man' as there are so many noobs out there. :D/

Well, I don't know yet. There are indeed many people and companies poking us, especially from India. We tried initially couple of them. They looked professional in their presentations, but results didn't work out.

Still looking for a good SEO one...

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

SEO Rule #1. Never hire a company that cold-calls you are cold-emails you. People who do SEO real well typically do not need to seek work.

Michael, please allow up to 2 business days for a response on pre-sales questions. I will address that for you today.

CDSEO when installed initially will import any custom meta data and after that will override X-Cart when the page loads for customers. Meta descriptions aren't a ranking factor so wouldn't have any impact on rankings and wouldn't result in a penalty either. You seem to have over 6500 backlinks originating from 5 domains almost all with the same anchor text, which is likely triggering a Penguin penalty. You should start by removing the link to www.istok.ca in your news as it could be the likely culprit.

Jack, CDSEO is compatible with Rich Snippets Module as of CDSEO 1.9.1 released yesterday. I've contacted you on skype with regard to licenses.

Oh, thank you. We'll do. But imagine, nobody among a handful of SEO-people who inspected the site and worked for us has ever brought up this issue!..

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Jon,

Actually, upon second thought I still think it is weird. May be because of that reference to istok.ca we were not that high, but still listed. Something happened to 'candle stands' keyword after that SEO man made alterations and posted the article. For some keywords we'been always at top-3 (greek cassock, russian cassock). You think that istok.ca could influence just some keywords? This is a sincere question.

Jon 02-06-2013 04:48 PM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

You are being penalized almost certainly as you can see if you search Google for site:www.istok.ca

You should log into your Google Webmasters account and look for a message.

You can search google for "recovering from google penguin" and read this article http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/recovery-from-google-penguin-tips-from-the-trenches

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Thank you, Jon, for the great article. It's mentioned there, as I understand it, that including category names in product URLs generates low quality links and is detrimental to ranking. What is your opinion?

Whom would you recommend for SEO these days?

Sincerely,

Rd. M.

Jon 02-07-2013 12:05 AM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Including category names in product urls isn't detrimental necessarily, but it lowers the keyword density of the url and relevance to the actual product page which isn't beneficial.

http://seobraintrust.com/ has great resources for learning SEO.

http://highrankings.com/ has always provided good SEO.

Conor's wife (Hands On Web Hosting) is now doing SEO and while I haven't experienced any of her work first hand she does seem to have a solid understanding of real SEO. http://www.bigredseo.com/

Of course don't forget about our SEO review as mentioned in my signature :) http://www.websitecm.com/seo/seo-website-review.html

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

Looks like CDSEO replaces navigation line on product page with its own, based on products main category.

This is an issue if one has the same product in two or more categories. Say you are in "training gear" category and click on a "blue t-shirt". Product page opens ok but navigation line reads "T-shirts > blue t-shirt" instead of "training gear > blue t-shirt", because the main category of "blue t-shirt" is "T-shirts".

Is there a way to correct this so nav line displays current category?

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

BCSE offers an "Advanced Breadcrumb" module: http://www.bcsengineering.com/store/advanced-breadcrumbs.html

Query string based content can be a real problem for SEO rankings, which is why CDSEO consolidates the content under one url and one page content.

Is it a must as an addition to CDSEO?

Jon 02-11-2013 10:40 PM

Re: CDSEO Pro - Complete SEO Solution - Custom Urls, Page Titles, Meta Data, Link Anchors

I wouldn't call it a "must" but if your breadcrumbs are an important navigation feature of your site then the module definitely helps the user.

Guys,

I'm looking at the html for a product page and noticed that it contains this line:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.mydomain.biz/product.php?productid=2404" />

Shouldn't CDSEO Pro over-ride the X-Cart URL so that this link includes the CDSEO URL?

Hi Jon,
I purchased cdseopro some time ago and installed it on. I would like to please ask you some advice.I'm writing some articles on the static pages of my site concerning the exact same subject of some of my categories and would like to include the exact keyword categorie in the url, but the same url is used for the categorie itself so can't use it. I was thinking of two solutions.Say the categorie is table lamps. Which solution would you use for seo ?

ex. www.mysite.com/table-lamps-1.html

or www.mysite.com/news/table-lamps.html

Thanks in adavnce for your advice.

Sorry guys! I checked my CDSEO Pro settings again and I had managed to disable canonical URLs

Lesson learned - double check settings!

I shall now go and crawl under a bush

Hi Jon,

Can you send me some instructions on how to 'uninstall' them?

Can't I just disable them? Then use the license on the other site? Kinda lost here and would like some advice on what to do...

xCMS is disabled, CDSEO is disabled, but I added some code to make it constantly enabled as there was a bug/conflict with it and I can't recall what it was.

Please let me know asap so I can get this done.

IMO it's best practice to use categories like this.

For example, if you have a blog split into sections Blog>News,Articles, Review

You would have the url like this www.example.com/blog/news/news-name
www.example.com/blog/articles/article-name
www.example.com/blog/reviews/product-name-review

That way if a customer is really interested in your articles they can manually remove /news-name/ and arrive at www.example.com/blog/news/ and they'll see more news.

It's easier to navigate and google always say make things easy for visitors etc

That's my opinion of course. :-)

Thanks Jack for your advice. Well, Jon doesn't seem to be answering any more :-( . Anyway I have another question for who can help me. I have changed urls on a certain page several times. Now I have noticed that google is indexing it three times with different urls. Infact this page isn't doing very good in ranking. Could it be that google is considering this duplicate content ?? I think it is. Well if it is I think this should be fixed in the cdseo software. But maybe I'm wrong. Be waiting for Jons comment. Thanks

Three different URLS will cause Google to index it three times as they will think of it as 3 pages. You need to 301 re-direct each URL you are currently not using to the url you are using for google to disregard the other urls.

They will dissapear with time, depending on how fast your site gets crawled. :-)
