Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing

I did not see how thumbnails work. Another stupid bug is even I enabled cookies in my IE7 and Firefox 3, X-Cart script continues to inform me that my browser needs cookies.

Here is the message:
Your browser doesn't accept cookies. Cookies are required to use this site. Please enable cookies and press the continue button

Going in Safari and Opera, I checked if cookies enabled, and the script worked fine.

4.2 is too close in shape as 4.1.11. My suggestion is it was not a good idea to offer it for testing. A little bit dissapointed. I expected to see a lot. I smell bugs who are waiting to be found.

The new feature with detailed images hover-over-thumbnails on the product page; are the thumbnails seperate generated thumb images, or re-size detailed images? This would be a problem if the detailed image file sizes are really large. As if you have 5-10 loading really slow on the page this wont look too good. Please advise.

I checked and it looks like it is just scaling down a full sized detail image with width height in html.

THIS IS BAD!!!!
It's not 1998.

This should be done server side and a true small thumb should be generated for display on the page.

I thought there was auto-thumb generation with g-lib in this version, surely this could have been used for this feature

Yes, it is a bug of the 4.2 beta. In the "current" 4.2 it is fixed and product images are resized by server, not by browser.

I wanted to know how difficult it would be to implement the 4.2 shipping features, primarily the dimensional weight entries L X W X H, and also the checkbox for Ship as Separate into a 4.1.x shopping cart, without having to go through the hassle of upgrading , as we all know can be a total pain.

That is just one feature I have been dying to have, and it would be great if we could just update the UPS shipping module, add some code to products and have it work.

As long as we seem to be compiling a "wish list" is there any way you can implement a feature that makes every visitor to the web site complete a purchase? :)

Yes, sure. We can put a huge red notice informing customers that their bank accounts will be emptied by a malicious virus (copied to their computers in background) provided they leave the store without purchasing <here goes a list of featured products>
