Stephen,

I received my Dynamic Image mod for X-Cart version 4.1 today. A day after
I ordered it.

The extension is .rar. (How an what) the heck do you open a .rar file with?

I have never seen a .rar file before. Most of us use winzip. There must be a reason that you use a .rar instead of a .zip or .exe file. Please explain, I would be interested to know.

Again how do I open a .rar file? I am at a standstill until I can open the attached .rar file.

You can open a .rar file with winzip, although if you are using X-Cart you really should be using 'WinRar' software. Winzip can/will corrupt certain files.

We are ready to start uploading X-Cart Dynamic Image Generator 4.1 but would like any input as to our concerns below.

Recommendations
Use the largest image size that you can get (within reason) for your product thumbnails and for the detail images. Using master images that are 1000px wide or 800px wide gives the best output. It may take a few seconds to generate the new image the first time, but once the image is requested the first time, you then have the new image in the cache and it will not need to be generated again. The product page will take the longest time to generate images the first time (depending on the number of detailed images being used). A good rule of thumb is to have images that are at least as wide as what you have the popup image set as.

Take the time (if you can) to make sure all your master images are the same dimensions. This means that if you are using 600x800 images, try to make them all that - or at least some derivation of...(600x800, 500x667, 800x1067...). This will help make sure that all your images have the same proportions no matter what size they are or where they are used. Sometimes I just add white space to the images to make them all the same proportions. This will give your site a tighter look.

My concerns are:
We have already uploaded over 800 images and we use X-Magnifier for the large images.
All of our X-Magnifier images are 350 width with varying lengths. (we can't change this, it is done.)

If we use the above recommendations we would probably need to increase our future master images width to probably 500 pxls. I would not like to resize any larger. We would use a 500x600 pop up

Our category images (thumbs-category page) are now 128x187, so we would have to resize all of our future master images to 500x730 in order to keep a standard look and
size on the category pages. Am I misunderstanding or am I correct?

What will happen to our X-Magnifier images that are already uploaded?

If you need a popup that is 500px wide then it would serve you well to have your images 500px wide. The reason is that all images that you use for a product (thumbnail, product, detail, variant...) can all be use as popup detail images.

Keep in mind, this is not a necessity - only a recommendation so that you can get the most out of the mod and have the best, tightest look on the site.

This mod has no effect on X-Magnifier.

I have just moved my x-cart site to a new server - it has moved from a development to a production server.

I now get an error message when I use the dynamic images module:

"This script is locked to another domain."

The URL has changed (am using an IP address now, rather than the previously temp URL). The site isn't live yet, which is why I am not using the URL to access it.

I need to add the new IP address to the license file - how is this done?

Hello Again,

I need help with TelaFirma - X-Cart Dynamic Image Generator 4.1.

All is uploaded.

The category page thumb is fine, the product page image is fine but I do not get a pop-up window when I click on the product page image.

Plus I am a bit confused as how to get the detail images (thumbs) (uploaded or under) the product page image.

Attached is the Dynamic Images options selections under >General Settings>Dynamic Images options> General settings.

I already sent a couple of emails to Stephen with these questions, but then it occurred to me that the answers could potentially benefit others if posted here, or maybe somebody else knows the answer to my questions. Stephen, if you see this before you answer my emails, feel free to answer in only one place! :-)

First:

Two of them appear to be redundant copies of the main master image, and the third is the additional detailed image.

3. The product for which I have a "master" image as X-Cart's Product Thumbnail, plus another as X-Cart's Product Image, correctly shows the thumbnail image on the category listing page and the product image on the product page. However, there are NO image thumbs below the main image on the product page, and clicking the main image to bring up the pop-up only shows the one image available--no detailed version of the Product Thumbnail image.

Is what I described above the intended behavior for each of these situations? It is certainly not what I desired for any one of them. Have I done something wrong?

The mod can not really tell when an image is no longer needed. It generates the filename based on all the parameters passed to it along with the original file specs (size, width, height, name...). If you need to you can delete all the images in the cache directory (except the .htaccess file) and it will just generate them again.

1) You should select to display the product thumb as the first thumbnail (instead of the main product image).
2) One of these will be the popup from the actual product image (1). The reset are the popups for the small thumbnails below the product image (2), (3)...
3) same as number 1 - you should select to display the product thumb as the first thumbnail instead of selecting the main product image

I also do not get thumb under product image unless I add a detail image. I am almost sure that I must be missing some code.

Lets back up a little on what is going on. If you only have one product image, this should be loaded ad the product thumbnail (not the product image). If you ALSO want the small thumbnail of this displayed below the main product image on the actual product page, you will need to check the option to "Display Main Product Thumbnail as first Detail Image thumb below the main product image on the product page".

There are three settings that are very important:

Display Detail Image thumbs below the main product image on the product page
Display Main Product Image as first Detail Image thumb below the main product image on the product page
Display Main Product Thumbnail as first Detail Image thumb below the main product image on the product page

The first setting tells the mod whether to display thumbnails (below the main product image) of the Detail Images that are uploaded for the product.
The next setting tells the mod whether to display a thumbnail of the Main Product Image (as defined by X-Cart) before it displays the thumbnails of the Detail Images (if they exist).
The other setting tells the mod whether to display a thumbnail of the Product Thumbnail (as defined by X-Cart) before it displays thumbnails of the Detail Images (if they exist).

In addition as we have talked about before, if you only have ONE image, it should be loaded as the Product Thumbnail (as defined by X-Cart). If you want this image to also be displayed as a thumbnail below the main product image on the product page, then check the third option listed above (Display Main Product Thumbnail as first Detail Image thumb below the main product image on the product page).

Keep in mind - this goes right back to the other question about why there are two popup images that are identical. If you choose to display the Product Thumbnail again below the product image on the product page - you are duplicating images and you will have two popups that are the same. There is no way around this since they are the same image.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want that. A routine that lists which ones are not used would be useful, but not so much a routine that just deletes all images.

I understand that, but why can't the code easily figure out that these are the same image and only use one of them in the pop-up image list? If, for some reason that I am not grasping, the code can't figure that out to get rid of the redundancy in the pop-up dialog, I would prefer to never have a pop-up from the product image, but only from the thumbnail...and, of course (as discussed previously), I wish the thumbnail would always display, even in the absence of a Detailed Image being defined in X-Cart.

I'm not completely sure; but i do know we have this in our store (Telefirma) and many of our postings in our store don't contain detailed images and thumbnails are generated fine :) We are also running a diff. version of xcart as well so idk if that has anything to do with it so i'm probably not a help but thought I'd post anyhow :)

For those who havent figured out .. in /skin1/modules/Dynamic_Images/product_image.tpl

I really miss the old light box that used to be a feature of this module.

If I install this on an x-cart shop that ALREADY has the dynamic images module installed will it work?

I now understand that the latest vrsion of he dynamic images modules comes with the shadowbox pre installed and availavle as an option from the admin (thanks stephen)

So my question now is - how to I upgrade an older version of the software to take advantage of this feature?

Hi, please see above link. For no apparent reason, the image mod now no longer displays anything in that category.
When it had done just hours ago. They are all jpg files.

What is going on?

It looks like you might have a corrupt image. Try uploading a different image and see if you get the same error. Do not forget to clear out your template cache.
