Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
I'm just clarifying what the roadmap says :) Personally I'd like to see it released now so we can start on site development, then patch the bugs as their discovered. Since upgrade packs won't be available for beta, we can't start site development till working release.

Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
Not the way to go Steve, believe me, it goes MUCH smoother when most of the bugs are taken care of BEFORE the official release. I'm sure you are eager to get started, but what happens is all the new customers get 4.4, and 99% of them have no idea how to upgrade or even that they need to upgrade. It works out better for everyone involved to have the most stable possible release.

Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
I guess I can understand that. Do you know why they couldn't release a 3rd beta now and offer an upgrade pack from that version only? Then for those on a deadline, they could start development now.

Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
Because they don't do upgrades from betas - they are betas :) If you have to start now, use 4.3.2

Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
Well we'll see if it gets released on Aug 5th. I'd love to use 4.3.2 now, but 4.4 has certain features that are absolutely required (email login, 1 page checkout, etc) so it would not be worth modifying 4.3 to do it if 4.4 already has this capability. Unfortunately we are on a deadline so if it's not released soon we'll have to explore other options. I hate deadlines :(

Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
We have a client in the same boat and they don't want to move to 4.3 and then to 4.4... But since we are still working out the actual design changes, this is buying us time to get familiar with 4.4...

Re: X-Cart 4.4 beta testing
It's great you do provider commisions, but this really needs to be a "per provider" setting, as not all my providers will be given the same amount .... (I want to start off higher, and as they sell to certain targets, their commision percentage is decreased....)

>> offer an upgrade pack from that version only
It is vital to test the upgrade back. From where we look at it, it takes 4-8 hours for us to update 1 server and the cluster has 3 servers. The upgrade script unfortunately does not maintain a state of whats been finished, so if it fails, we need to reload the DB (3-5 hours) and then restart the upgrade script. NOT FUN ... I've asked them for the upgrade script .. but never did get any acceptable answer so just abandoned it. |
