Another thumbnail issue..

Categories are not generating thumbnails, just using HTML to squeeze/smash images within constraints.

4.3 Timeframe

Sorry for asking...

Are you planning to release many more betas and/or RC's ? Is there an approximate time-frame for the gold release (this year or next year) ?

We're planning a new shop and I'm thinking to build it with the 4.3 beta release, so we can use the extended functionality (and easier upgrade path).

Any help appreciated.

This question was just answered yesterday in this very same thread - go back a few posts.

Yeah...I wasn't paying attention...It's perfectly clear now.

Thanks.

I though the release date was in September, how come it moved to October.

Because not enough people are testing and reporting bugs.

Surely it should not just be down to the communty here, testing shoud be scheduled for inhouse to meet timescales, not dependant on volunteers here?

Not to pick any one side on this, but quite frankly we get upgrades for free. For many of us the initial price was $99. I think looking for major beta help from the x-cart community is not too much to ask. I would imagine that if you did all the testing in house the cost would go up quite a bit. You would still have patches for security and other minor bugs that typically do not get found until after full release.

Re: X-Cart 4.3 beta testing

I'm not arguing about offering a beta, but the roadmap is pretty useless if it depends on the level of testing done by the community.

the policy of free upgrades is a different issue, if QT wants to stop this they will do. My personal opinion is it will actually just make support etc harder and more expensive as people would be more unlikely to upgrade. As it stands people probably keep up to date more meaning they can drop support for older versions earlier. If you had to pay for upgrades, would you have kept upgrading to 4.1.12, or would you still be on your $99 version? Imagine trying to keep V2 up to date with security patches!

I digress :)

It would at least be better to point that out in the first poist, "here's the beta, the more you guys test it the quicker it will get released. Our in house testing means a release date of 2010, but it will be quicker with you guys helping us!"

perhaps some kind of benefit for those testing, free support points for example.

Many users help out by helping on the forum as much as possible, freeing QT up for dev work, it is still their product.

I've just looked carefully, and that response was not by QT though, so maybe this is all just hot air.

Perhaps QT could reply explaining the importance of community testing so we all know where we stand.
