Re: X-Cart 4.2 released

Maybe we can start a thread for X-Cart 4.2 Add-On's, so that authors of the 3rd party modules can comment if the Add-On has been tested and is compatible with 4.2?[/quote]

I was in chat ith BCSE today and NONE of their mods work with 4.2 except the SEO. Which isnt needed with 4.2. They said will be 3-4 months for them to upgrade their mods.

Im having the same problems. The only way I found to work around it is in FTP and EDIT live.. When editing using xcart editor and hit SAVE it goes right back to default info. Frustrating as *()&*(&!&()#&*^*^!!~

If it gets tiresome.. a solution would be not to come to forum? With what you stated, I would assume you dont need any help? People will always have questions and problems that they need assistance with, either choose to help them... or not. I see this forum as 'part' of the 'support' package that the software offers.

Yes, there are enough good people involved that I think over the next few weeks, an upgrade path / timeframe will start to develop, and 4.2 can be more embraced.

As for the 3rd party developers, I just hope they will find a way to help out those that have made recent purchases, so that their $ investment might carry through to 4.2, at least to some extent.

Amid all of this discussion, I hope it is not taken wrong by the x-cart developers, who deserve a lot of credit for what I'm sure has been a ton of work to help improve X-Cart. I for one really appreciate their efforts, and I'm sure 4.2 will realize it's potential not long from now...

Except that 4.2.x will require an upgrade to 4.2 first. How many people have complained that they can't even upgrade their 4.x database without upgradng first to 4.1.11?

X-Cart cost me $593 including X-AOM, X-configuarator, Neon Lights, X-fancy categories, X-special offers and X-magnifier. All from the X-cart website. I didn't buy X-cart because I'm a cheapskate. (Got over that with oscommerce)

I'm not sure if this was an extra thought or related to my post - but FWIW, I have heavily used professional help, paying for installation, payment method support (which did not resolve the problem) - and paid again today for the priviledge of asking 'what the heck are you doing to me and now do I have to pay for it all again?'

If it is indeed less simple to edit, I bought the wrong product. That is not the way X-Cart was promoted. I like the 4.1.11 product - way better than oscommerce or commersus - but I'm feeling a little abused by qualiteam.

I'm good with - even thankful for upgrades and improvements - but a little disclosure would have been nice for a new customer. :(

Of course there are times that I need help. What I was trying to get at is that there is a lot of valuable information in this forum, but some people seem to be just too lazy to look for it. I can't count how many times I have referred a question to the "Questions asked a million times" thread, even though it is one for if not the first thread in the "Storefront Design & Template Editing" forum.

The only upgrade from 4.1.11 to 4.2.x is a SQL patch. The templates from 4.1.11 and 4.2.x are incompatible, so even to do a "upgrade" you will need to totally redesign your site.

All the more reason to stick with the 4.1.11 for the present.

4.2 isn't any "less simple" to edit, just different. All versions prior to this relied on tables and html. Since 4.2 is CSS based there is a bit of a learning curve involved.

Re: X-Cart 4.2 released

Hey Guys, from my POV I'm very excited about the new features in 4.2!!
Mainly the SEO friendly urls (no more generating the 'catalog' files), and the auto thumbnail generation. We have thousand of products to add and the time it takes to manually generate each and every thumbnail and upload the file is well worth the pain of upgrading.
The total time that this will save us can be better used for marketing.

Is 4.1.11 still available??

Yes, you can use X-Cart v4.1.11 for a new store. Moreover, since the commercial skins for X-Cart 4.1 (I mean Artistic tunes, Crystal blue and other commercial skins we made) have become obsolete with the release of X-Cart 4.2, we have decided to make them available to all X-Cart users for free (and you already can download them in the private members area).

However, if you don't need any specific third-party add-ons, I would recommend you to go with X-Cart v4.2. We have been contacted by third-party developers during beta testing and I believe many popular third-party add-ons will be adapted to 4.2 in the near future.

Re: X-Cart 4.2 released

Why isnt someone giving an answer to the problem several people have editing the templates in 4.2.

I had several privat messages about this issue, but not even xcart comes with a solution.

Please help us: WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO EDIT THE TEMPLATES FROM WITHIN XCART!!

Regards.
