Default How to Replicate the 'Upsell' dialog?

Hi,

I'm trying to replicate the upselling ("Related Products") dialog box on another page (specifically the cart.php page, - the one with the 'Discount coupon' box).

Why? From what I can gather, it seems to be a better way of offer upsell opportunities that the default XC configuration (which, as has been mentioned numerous times in this forum isn't ideal, for example, pushing an upsell before the customer's added any products to their cart..)

The custom mods i've seen aren't quite what i'm after and i can't find any posts explicitly detailing how to do this...

I've tried doing this:

1. In customer/main/cart.tpl i've added the following, which i've taken out of customer/main/product.tpl

Code:
{if $active_modules.Upselling_Products ne ""} {include file="modules/Upselling_Products/related_products.tpl" } {/if}

2. Now, I thought this would replicate the Upsell dialog on the cart page...not so! Page compiles no probs, but the upsell dialog doesn't appear.

Anyone got any ideas? Is there any need to mod any core php files?

Cheers,
JB

Might want to pick Jon's brain about this, as he created a very nice upsell mod. If it isn't what you are looking for, perhaps you can at least use it as a base.

Hey balinor, thanks for the tip..which user's Jon?

I've delved into cart.php and i'm guessing there's some additional work required there (so jumped right back out )..

Hi Phil,

I queried this with XC themselves and their response indicated that this would need some heavy modding to cart.php (think it involved writing a new SQL query).

I actually ended up purchasing Jon's ezUpsell mod (http://www.websitecm.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=84). Can't comment on the effectiveness of the mod itself (as we're not live yet), but it was easy to install and didn't cause any problems upgrading from 0.13 to 0.14.

If you want to see it in action, try and buy some 'Evening Invitations' on my test site (http://www.ocpx.com). ezUpsell is 'Step 2'.

If I get a chance, i'll post XC's full response. If you don't fancy messing around under the covers, go for ezUpsell.

Cheers,
